Vintage leather jacket Shepard is a great idea. After all, I got the feeling that Shepard IS depicted as being a little bit weird through the games, and not only by Jack standards.

Weird as in "always-smells-like-sour-milk" weird, or weird as in "has-the-player-behind-him/her" weird?

I'd say "has-the-player-behind-him/her" weird. Things like Samara's loyalty mission sort of give the impression that Shepard invokes the Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training trope. The guy can give an inspirational sppech and kill Reapers like nobody's business but stick him in a nightclub and well...

Well I was mostly referring to the fact that sometimes he looks like a Socially Awkward Penguin that for some unknown reason has gained the ability to inspire people more than religion, but yeah, that trope is a good explanation.

Considering that N7 training focuses on leading teams against impossible odds Shepard's abilities probably stem from that. As for background I really like romancing Jack with War Hero Shepard. She's not afraid to tell the big goddamn hero that he sounds like a ****.

I like Sole Survivor as a service history for Shepard (I have three Shepards right now, across different moralities, classes, genders and pre-service backgrounds, and they're all Sole Survivors). Partially it's because I like heroes who are marked by tragedy, but also because of the 'neutrality' of it: I feel like Shepard's already portrayed as too awesomely heroic, so the War Hero background seems a bit excessive, and the Ruthless background is just...well, not my thing.

And Colonist is probably my favorite pre-service history, but I really, really like pairing up my Earthborn Shepard with Jack, because of Earthborn Shepard's predisposition to be a Renegade. Mostly, I like the fact that he's this angry, thuggish dude with a criminal past and a somewhat confrontational demeanor. Kinda...kinda feels like it goes well with her, you know?

I like spacer ruthless, ripe for the head canon. I see the spacer as a boy scout and Torfan was pure hell, and I role play that Shepard lost control after what he'd seen. That's war, and he's tormented by his memories.

Damn you! You cannot send me there! Do you know how long it takes me to surface from a trawl of that site? Image IPB

In other news, I uploaded a new chapter, which features Jack to an extent. However, I'm not very confident of her portrayal in this scene. Do you think any of you could have a look and tell me if there's anything I can do to make it better?

I thought that Jack was pretty in character. There's not much of a problem with Jack being "softer" when it's just her and Shepard and there's the fact that she was trying to comfort him.

Just finished "Recruit The Convinct" in ME2 once again. I can't help but fall in love with Jack everytime I see her. The part where she see the Cerberus stencils on the Normandy and freaks out is f****** powerful.

Jack's "****, you sounld like a ****" line on her recruitment mission was great. Partailly because it's the first time where Paragon Shepard got told how stupid he can sound sometimes.

Reposting a DLC idead for Jack here for some feedback.  Can't seem to get any from the fan creation section.

I can't write fanfics so I'm submitting a rough outline of one. If anyone wants to flesh it out that would be awesome. It would be even better if Bioware added something like it as a DLC as it doesn't conflict with lore.  Please feel free to comment, feedback is welcome.

Jack:  All for Nought
1) Jack speaks with Liara either in Grissom Academy (if you take Liara with you) or Purgatory.   Or even in a cutscene on the Normandy after the Grissom mission.  Liara goes into more detail about Jack's background and gives her Ms. Nought's (Jack's mother) contact info.

2) 1-2 missions later, if you talk to Jack in Purgatory she will tell you she meant to leave her estranged family alone but recently found out the colony is under Reaper attack. She is worried that she will lose all chance of seeing them or them knowing she exists.
Jack: Shepard..... I know you have a lot to deal with but....
Paragon Shepard: (cut her off) get your gear ready and meet me in docking bay 24.
Renegade Shepard:  I'll see if I have time and the strategic value of an attack.
Jack: (looks down sideways)  thanks.

3) the Normandy approaches the world of xxxx. The city that the Noughts live in is located in a northern continent of the planet. You contact the local Alliance CO for the sitrep. He tells you that they were able to secure the civilians and the orbital defense system have been effective in stalling Reaper ground forces.  However, the CO then states a Reaper has blockaded the whole northern hemisphere from orbit.  No shuttles or ships have been able to break through from either direction, and the Alliance fleet is too spread out in the sector to destroy it.

4) EDI concludes that the Normandy may be able to infiltrate the Reaper and detonate the eezo core like they did on the direlict Reaper. But this time with timed or remote detonated bomb to ensure time for extraction.  Using the stealth drive and EDI's cyberwarfare skills they are able to dock and enter. Jack insists on being in the infiltration team, as they are there to save her family.  Joker reminds her that infiltrating requires her to be quiet, but Jack says she's make up for it on the destruction side.

5) Basic long hallway type with Reapers as opposition. Following a course set by EDI to reach the reaper's eezo core. Jack come with the following powers: annihilation field, shockwave, and throw. She can equip shotguns and pistols.

6) when they reach the core, they will have to deal damage to it's shields (about 80%) while under attack by waves of opponents. When the shielding is damaged enough the Reaper will state that it will take your team down with it.  It informs you that it has already started its descent and already in the planet's atmosphere.   It also tries to detonate its own core immediately hoping to take Shepard's team and the city down with it.

7) Jack uses her biotics to suppress the blast (maybe the black tendrils from her annihilation filed wrap around the core).  She tell the team she can hold it off for 2 minutes at the most and for Shepard to make sure her family make it out safely.  Shepard looks at Jack for a split second and tells her he/she will and goodbye.

8) timed mission to make it to extraction, a la multiplayer style ensues.  This time, its only two of you, accompanied with shaking and explosions to throw your aim off a bit.

9) the team makes it out on shuttle and the Reaper explodes in a blue blast. When the team lands they find that while the city has been devastated, the civilians had hidden in an underground bunker and are mostly unharmed.  Shepard locates the Noughts to tell them of Jack's sacrifice, when he hears Jack jokingly accuse him of abandoning her behind him. You turn around and see Jack is slumped over clutching her side with tattered cloths and blood coming out of her ears and nose but still standing.  You are about to introduce her to her family, but Jack's mother instantly recognizes her. Ms. Nought: (slowly, with a cracking voice): Jacqueline?Jack (wry smile): hey.... Mom. They share a tearful embrace and the rest of the family join in. Fade to black.

10) Back on the Normandy, Jack approaches Shepard to thank him. Shepard plays it causal, saying he needed to clear the sector of Reapers anyway and not think too much into it. Jack thanks him anyway. Shepard counters by stating she saved their lives by delaying the blast so they are even.  If Jack was your love interest then they share a kiss and get intimate.

11) You gain annihilation field as a bonus power, and have the option of inviting her to the Normandy.  She seems hesitant to leave her students, but a communication with Rodriguez tells her that the kids are fine and that she (Rodriguez) was leading the group just fine.

12) Random conversations with crew reveal that Jack has siblings and they looked happy, as well as other trivia about them.  One of them is also a biotic, and had already been accepted to Grissom academy and set to attend the following school year.  Jack marvels that she might have trained him and not know they were related.  She wonders what if she would have been happy like that if Cerberus hadn't abducted her. At one point Garrus (or someone else) reminds her that if Cerberus hadn't abducted and trained her, she might not have been able to save her family this time.  Jack seems to find this answer acceptable and continues cursing up a storm.

Now I need a new title.

Gotta say, wasn't too keen on having Jack's name revealed like that. It's kinda like Tali's face and the reaper motivations- better off when it was a mystery.

I would of found it to better suited for a more personal reveal, a Jack and Shepard together moment, not a Liara outburst.

Its also a little ironic that this is the only glimpse we get of any Shadow Broker capability on Liara's part.

Nah, that title is awesome. You just need to change Jack's mother sourname since "Nought" is something that Jack made up (ti's actually french for "nothing", zero).

Ill leave "Nought" in as a place holder until someone suggests a better one.
I always thought it was strange that Jack didn't react more strongly when Liara told her she had info on her. You would think that was a perfect place to start revealing more background right?

Some people think she doesn't care about her real name, because that is who she could have been, and that person is dead.
