Jack gets hate, because people like to live vacriously through their characters and an abrasive woman, who doesn't worship the ground they walk on, also toss in being bald, I doubt many of those people who dislike the character, took the time to pull back the layers.

I agree that Jack uses her tattoos as a means of intimidation. Because if you took them away and gave her some long hair, she would very much look like the 'girl next door' type. Not intimidating at all to say the least.

All of this talk about Juhani just gives me the mental image of Jack with a lightsaber. That and the destruction that would ensue.

The guy who did the Jack-Portal crossover should do a Jack-Darth Maul crossover (he's the only one I could think of who has the required amount of body art :P).

Why does everyone called jack bald. Do people not see the hair on her head?

Yes, Jack does indeed have hair follicles. But she is obviously bald.

Edit: This is the first time I notice her Widow's Peak.

She isn't an easy girl to handle, that's for sure. I've actually never considered it from that perspective: that people want their heroes to be adored, and everyone that doesn't automatically gets stamped with a no-card. It makes sense, as some of the most liked companions are some of the most supportive of Shepard (i.e. Garrus).

I'm guessing Jack will end up being way more popular in the third installment, unless BioWare's version of "more mature and soft" is considerably duller than ours.

To be fair, m'friend, being shaven and being bald are two completely different scenarios. The former suggests choice whereas the latter usually denotes hair actually falling out.

Oh, you're probably right. I'm not a native english-speaker, so my encyclopedia of words isn't that impressive - I couldn't remember having heard it referred to as anything else but being bald.

On an almost unrelated note: I just came across a model while researching what the hell you call bald women, and she immediately caught my eye. It's Ève Salvail, a 90's top model.

Possible inspiration? This picture also falls pretty close to Jack-territory.

Isn't that the "white rabbit" girl from the Matrix? O_o I know I've seen her in a movie before. And, yes, technically Jack is rocking a buzzed haircut, not bald. It's just easier to say bald, I guess.

Nope! It just hit me! That's one of the girls that is trying to pretend to be Korban Dallas's girlfriend in order to get to Flostin Paradise in the Fifth Element! She's actually an alien in disguise.

You're exactly right. That's why I love Jack so much. She doesn't give a sh!t that you're Shep and that makes me want to understand *why* she wants to keep everyone away. I've known people like her in my own life and it's hard for me to understand why people can hate on someone they don't try to understand. Taking her at face value is your first mistake.

So what would you people thinking of Jack becoming an S/S LI in ME3?

Well, according to you, Urz would be a better LI than Jack, so I'm curious why you care at all.

I said that in the context of Jack's ME2 romance, which I found absolutely goddessawful. I like the character, I just despised the romance. In ME3, when she doesn't need lolmagicpeniscure, it could be quite good.

It struck me as both highly implausible, considering that Jack never really opens up to a female Shepard at all and just sort of crosses into genuine respect near the end of the game, and highly emotionally manipulative, considering how screwed-up Jack's emotions are. Also sexist.

Am I the only one who thinks we need an awesome Jack quote in the title like some of the other appreciation threads? Not to hop on the band wagon or anything but it would be cool..

I personally like the one where she says she would rather be killed then forced to nod and smile at everything..can't recall it exactly but it pretty much sums up her character perfectly.

I can agree with that it was one of the things the off put for the Jack  romance- I saw damged she was  and it did not sit to well.  I was always a big  pro of the friendship route with Jack simple because she needs to learn to trust  on just a basic level again.   I'm still going to do a play through where I have a  Male shepard romance her just to see how it plays out  for all three  LI .

Edit: Through I won't go a far as sexist...I can understand and agree that it  can off as manipluative

Handful of quotes that would do the job nicely:

FLY, B***H!!!

I will destroy you!

I Will Be Your DOOOM!!! (I know, wrong game, but the same VA.)

Whenever I hear Jack say "I will destroy you," I have a flashback to Knights of the Old Republic. At least Jack doesn't have a silly accent like Juhani.

That'd be catastrophic!

A quick question if you guys have time

What does Jack say at the end of the CB mission if you destroyed the place? I cant remember.

Also what does she say if you keep the place? Does it ends the romance with Shep?

Thanks

How about:

"Rough stuff. I like it!"

"I'll throw you like a toy!"

"Hello, dead people!"

"If I die, Shepard, I'm haunting you!"

Personally, I prefer the third one.

Also, I think the line you're talking about is something like: "If you screw with my head, made me nod and smile at everything, I'd prefer you blew my head off. Let me die as me."

Jack is awesome. Enough said.

A couple of days ago I was watching the movie Eastern Promises and it got me re-examining Jack. I found an interview with Viggo Mortensen and the makers of the film, which explained why tattoos were so important to Viggo's character. I started to think of Jack's character. Particularly when Shepard asks her about her ink and she mentions that some are for prisons she been in. I started to think that Jacks tattoos serve a purpose. Some to show other inmates where she's been, what she's done and to warn not to fvck with her. Perhaps some were to show her rank in the cult. In Russian prisons you are no one if you don't have tattoos, and maybe that's also true in the world of mass effect prisons. Maybe the concept of wearing your criminal history on your body for everyone to see inspired Jack's character design.
I also found it ironic that in Russian prisons criminals have to tell the true story of what they're guilty of for everyone to see. Lying is not an option. When you think of a criminal you think of a liar, of someone who is dangerous because you  don't know what they are capable of. And these criminals have to show exactly what they are capable of. This made me think of how honest Jack's character is. She wears her story on her body. Here she is letting you know exactly who she is, where she's been, and what she's capable of. Jack doesn't lie, not even to herself. She knows she's not normal in the head and she admits it. For the life of me I cannot understand the hate Jack gets in this forum. You can't take Jack at face value and if some one does they are truly missing out on a wonderful character. And that baffels me.
Jack also says that some tats are to remember, some for things she's lost, and that they're no ones business. I think those are the ones that are meant just for her, like Ms. Taylor said. I doubt she would ever tell anyone what those are for. Not even if she's with Shepard. Jack might have started out as Biowares " token bad girl ", an edgey counterpart to the sex kitten Miranda. But the end result is anything but " token " or one dimensional.
Anyway the tattoo concept mentioned in the film made me all crazy about Jack all over again, so I thought I'd share  Forgive me if this has already been brought up, I just found an interesting link between the movie and Jack.  Posted Image

I agree.
Excellent post is ecellent enough that I don't even feel a need to make an elaborate response to quote it.

The only legitimate choice.

It's catchy, short (very important for thread titles), and it encapsulates Jack totally.
