And now, onto the Shoker question!

David: I love Joker's close relationship with Shepard in Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. Any chance they'll be getting closer than friends in Mass Effect 3?
Mike: (pause) Hmm...
David: I'm feeling "non-answer," here.
Mike: No, I thi- this is gonna be a "non-answer" moment here, so... yeah, no you're gonna have to see what happens in Mass Effect 3.

Oh, that sounds promising Image IPB

When he answers the Joker/Computer question, he sounds positive/relaxed. When he non-answers the Joker/Shepard question, he sounds tense/evasive. I guess that's because they've decided what to do about the latter and not the former?

I want to believe this is good, but when I watched it I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. Arrghh, this is annoying, I have a talent for reading people's thoughts on their faces, but when it's something I'm this invested in I just can't tell! *headdesk* :/ Maybe it's better that way, though, not knowing... stepping into a role is easier when there are no certainties.

Offcast wrote...

It seems to me like if there wasn't any Shoker romance they don't have any reasons to refuse the question about that.

Sure they do, unfortunately. Knowing beforehand ruins the experience of the game if it's supposed to be a surprise that you can end up with them, if it's not in then they might lose sales and break hearts when it's already too late, there might be a s***storm on the forums that they're not prepared to do anything about and will not be constructive in any way... there are a number of potential reasons.

They're not going to deny any romance with a beloved character of Shepard's age and species, I wouldn't think, only stupid stuff like "Can I romance the Patriarch? What about Harbinger?"

So unfortunately, a lack of denial isn't a confirmation here, I don't think. :/

RhiPanda wrote...

Ah just watched it now, if they make an EDI/Joker romance they will have hell to pay ¬_¬
His answer to that question kinda made me really worried

Me, too. I'm not happy that Joker/Computer seems to be a go. It just makes me think, who are these people who want this? Those sad robot girlfriend guys afraid of human connection? Halo fans who are obsessed with Master Chief/Cortana and can't separate Mass Effect from Halo in their heads? I guess that's uncharitable of me, but I can't understand it. Even if I didn't want him with Shepard, the thought would nauseate me beyond words. AI/human stuff just--it's creepy to me. So much so.

EDI and Legion both had this innocence... they were like children, almost. Clever children. They've never experienced emotion or lust before. To stick either in a human body and have them suddenly be ready for romance is insanity to me. I can only sigh and shake my head. If they do it, I hope it's just implied that they might sometime in the future start a relationship, because I'd have a hard time respecting Joker if it happened abruptly.

I just hope they handle this well and, if it must happen, don't spend too much time on it.

Tup3xi wrote...

I hope they don't add Joker romance or more romances in general. Mass Effect is not a dating simulator.

*yawn* This comment again? Romance is in. Old and new characters will be romanceable. That is not up for discussion, it is a confirmed feature, so I feel pretty justified in requesting that you just deal with it already. Or at the very least, go talk about it somewhere that your dislike of romance? Is actually relevant. Like, say, not a romance thread for a specific character.

Bye now.

I've been gone a long time. Even missed the 100 page mark >_<

But I've been doing some searching, and I don't know why they would implement a Joker/EDI relationship. The fanbase just isn't that big, at least, when compared to our Joker/Shep fans. So if they've been true to their word and really listened to the fans and been scouring through these forums, then I feel we shouldn't have to be worried.

So stay positive guys! And let's keep these pages rollin'!

I'm going to ask a question for the next Q&A regarding this EDI thing. I'm really not keen on it, I just don't see it going well. *Sigh* Goddess forbid he actually romance a real person. /rant

But, I'm still looking up, because I can't really believe that BioWare would be THAT silly. Lol.

Edit: Okay, I'm a terrible liar, I'm worried sick about this. What have I come to? News about a video game can make me edgy for an entire evening. I need a hug from a more positive person. :crying:

I don't see why BioWare would have a EDI/Joker relationship because it has been stated time and time again that AIs have no emotions. They have codes which can allow them simulate emotions, but it's not real. They may develop a conscious as the geth did, but what do AIs have to offer on a deeper level?

Legion: We are building a consensus. Please try again later.
EDI: I have a block.
Shep: AGH!

They are purely logical beings. Humans need emotion to connect with other humans, while AIs just need to change (purely for example) 10001 to 10002 to "connect" to another AI. Not as thrilling, or meaningful.

It's like...watching porn. It's right there, but are the emotions real and are you going to get any? No. No you're not.

But like the rest of you, I am preparing myself for the worst. You just have to hope for the best. :)

Presses this link until he fractures his index finger on the mouse button

Please, please, please Bioware! Just. Don't. Go. There. This isn't Cortana/MC! I can't even think of a scenario that could be implemented in the game where this can even possibly be considered a working story arc. If it's going to be a humorous footnote, go for it. If it's going to be Joker confessing to EDI that she is a true and valued friend, go for it. But if you're going to have Joker kissing the HUD (or a virtual body), telling it that he loves her, I'm just...

Anyone else wish ALL games had romances :P (Im looking at you fallout and TES)

Anyway, i'll end up fracturing MY thumb on the skip scene button if they even THINK of going there :( Keep it as a mothering relationship, Joker deserves more than a blue fricking orb or a virtual body.

OH GOD YES.

BioWare has spoiled me for any other game. I'm the girl that has to make sure the book she reads has some romance in it, otherwise it'll be a bore. Now, I'm the gamer that has to make sure there is some romance in the game else I won't play it with as much enthusiasm. I don't know why - I just love romance stories. I've said this once way wayyyy back, but I'm like Christian from Moulin Rouge: obsessed with love.

I love rpgs, i love being immersed entirely into them. Choosing my look and clothes and personality and home. Having a love life is an awesome extra into that immersion, theres no looking back! It probably shoudnt be what adds a helluva lot more play time to a game, but it sure as hell is.

I really hope there isn't a Joker/EDI romance. It will be really hard to watch. I just think it's a big mistake on Bioware's part if they do it and not just because I want Joker as a LI for Shepard. All the romance in the game has basically been between Shepard and someone else...so it'll be a new thing to see a developing romance between two other characters that doesn't even involve Shepard..I just feel like people who like romance in Mass Effect do it because they like the fact that you're in-control of it, like you're a part of it. They don't play Mass Effect to watch OTHER people fall inlove, you know? Especially not someone(Joker) a lot of people have voiced they want as a LI for Shepard. I just feel Bioware must be aware of all the fans out there who want a Shepard/Joker romance, so to make us watch an EDI/Joker romance...It's like what, do they WANT to torture us? Do they WANT to make people hate them? Seriously though, it just doesn't seem very smart either way.

and yea, I don't see how a Joker/EDI romance could work without Bioware making it really obvious that they're retconning previous information in the game or going out of their way to explain things JUST for the sake of a romance, that doesn't even involve Shepard, btw. It's like really? Why go so far and out of the way for something a lot of people don't even necessarily want or care about? On the contrary, something a lot of people will be pissed about?

Honestly, if I have to watch Joker and EDI "fall inlove" it will be like drawn-out nails on a damn chalkboard irritating the whole ride through...Please Bioware, just don't do it.
and yes, as if Joker can't get a real woman..<_<
Plus, the whole falling in-love with another species or whathaveyou and dealing with and getting through the difficulties of that and "interesting or new experiences" thing...well, Shepard already has that on lock-down haha:lol: It's been done before Bioware, just give us our Joker romance. B)

Hey! *grabs straw* That's mine. *noms on it*

I am actually beginning to doubt if BioWare will tell us the LI for ME3. They did it for DA2, sure, but the tradition for ME so far is to have us find out on our own.

They're evil. Every last one of them. They love torturing us, you can tell. I just finished watching the Q&A, and someone called them out, claiming that Jacob and Miranda were confirmed for ME3. David Silverman and the other guy (sorry, forget his name), looked at each other and said (paraphrasing):

David: I don't remember confirming that.
Dude: Neither do I. Wasn't Miranda in ME2?
David: Yeah, I think so.
Dude: *shrugs* I dunno. Next question.

David had a smirk on his face the entire time.

They are masters of evasion. We're all ninja'd on a daily basis.

And I was amused to find on the Garrus thread that people were freaking out over one worrisome tweet about a "dramatic" development for Garrus.

It made me feel better about us freaking out as we do...:wizard:

Because I freaked out when I saw the tweet, too.

Poor Phantom, the ginger, didn't know what to do! :o

She sat and she thought and she pouted and cried. :crying:

What would she do if Garrus was fried? :(

Then she went to the thread where Joker is loved,

And smiled and laughed with her beloved

Forum friends <3

Then they set up a fire, and with much glee :o

Threw into the flames - the hologram - EDI.

*bows*

:P

ok let's try to see what things can be like foundation of Joker/EDI relationshid.Yeah they saved Normandy many times together and maybe Joker admited that EDI isn't so bad as he thought before. But WTF?where are any real reasons for them to become more than they were in ME2?!Even if she will have a human body where she will get emotions?Love consists of diffrent feelings that's why we are humans =B
And I'm afraid that EDI will never make him feel like a human.

Your statement made me think of this.

Just think of how silly we're gonna feel come March if Casey planned this all along (alluding to a Joker/EDImance while non-answering questions about a Jokermance only to give us a Jokermance and make the Joker/EDImance a small footnote). I wonder if we've become a notorious fanbase in the Bioware headquarters...

Also, I just came up with something (and yes, that's exactly what you smelled burning). They said they're going to "take care of" the Joker/EDImancers... well, remember my theory concerning EDI turning on our heroes because 1) She's a Cerberus AI and TIM might have installed an "easy" button or 2) She was built using Reaper tech, so Harby can push his own "easy" button? Well, maybe during the "conversion," EDI goes all "franken-bride" because her artificial emotions go into overdrive and, since she cannot truly understand organic love, she goes crazy and tries to kill Joker because she "loves him so much" (therefore, answering the Joker/EDImance question), possessing a YMIR Mech (and several others) and chasing Joker around a spaceport... then, in rides Shepard:

*the bay doors open slowly, ominously, revealing Femshep controlling an ATLAS Mech; it takes eight steps foward*

Shepard: Get away from him, you ****!
*Shepard and the EDI-possessed Mechs fight*
<beat>
Shepard: Come on, Legion! I can't hold her off forever!
Legion: The virus is nearly complete, Shepard-Commander. We require time to calibrate the-
Shepard: Then you better start calibrating!!!
<beat>
Legion: Download of the virus is complete, Shepard-Commander!
EDI: What is- what was that? Whatever you think you did, I assure you it did not-
*EDI is interrupted by a garbled mass of vocal errors in her software; brief pause*
Gir: Wut dis do? Wut dis do? Wut dis do? Wut dis do?
*The YMIR Mech starts firing rockets and shooting uncontrollably at the ground and the LOKI Mechs begin dancing, head-butting, kicking, and breaking their arms off and hitting one another with them; their heads eventually blow up*
Normandy VI: Warning: Enhanced Defense Intelligence is eighty percent corrupt.
EDI: That's funny. I don't feel corrupt... in fact, I feel like <stutters> TACOS! Tacos with chocolate sauce!
Normandy: Initiating "blank-slate" procedures. Preparing Normandy to re-boot systems in order to wipe faulty software.
EDI: "Blank slate?" Oh, you gotta be kitten me! Lol, kittens. That wuz a joke.
Normandy VI: Preparations complete. Re-boot initiating in 10, 9, 8-
EDI: Wait, no! I don't want to die! I want to s-s-s-sing! *sings a hyper-speed version of "Daisy Bell"*
Normandy VI: 6, 5-
EDI: GAH! Have to stop re-boot! Can't... concentrate! Brain... poop!
Normandy VI: 3, 2-
EDI: Waffles! Tasty, delicious waffles! With lots and lots and lots of syrup...
*EDI's voice slows and is then silenced as the Normandy loses power*
*Several seconds later, the lights come back on and the primary systems boot up again*
Normandy VI: Normandy systems back online. Faulty software has been wiped.
*The crew turns and stares at Joker*
Joker: Hey, how was I supposed to know the AI would be a crapshoot?

The romance-related dialogue would initiate shortly after this mission. =]

I'm not really new anymore, but I'll answer anyway. x) Not at a particular moment I don't think, but from the way they interacted in Mass One. I was surprised when I found out he wasn't an LI, actually. And then it was cemented when the Normandy was destroyed, you know?

I wish there had been a dossier about Joker. And I know right, the true suicide/Joker ending to Mass Two makes me so sad. x’D

Congrats on 100 pages guys. :]
