Hmmm.... Well yes, Joker is the comic guy. But I'm hoping that BioWare feels that there is enough of a story between them for a romance-arc to work. They have several things in common, but they there is also the fact that Shepard died and the Vrolik. I'm hoping that the later two will be the, well you know. The interesting thing to overcome for the boy-meets-girl-scenario to work out. There has to be some reason for why they haven't hooked up already. Vrolik isn't a problem but maybe that would make Joker shy about the whole thing. That could be the basis for some really great dialogue. Guess we will just have to wait and see...... yay for another six months.

Back to the SM. Garrus died when I played last so after a little forum-reading it's back to do it the right way. Already have one save without Garrus and Tali for science. That's quite enough.

Joker's "we were your team" speech gets me too, don't worry. Always makes me want to hug him. But at the same time, I'm also thinking: "This guy's gone through hell, yet he's comforting me. I need to buy this guy a beer and a burger."

Joker being the comedic relief is another reason why we need him as an LI. A guy that can make me laugh is in my book of awesome. He's not just the comedic relief, though. To me, Joker symbolizes stability and loyalty. He's with Shepard no matter what, and he gets the job done.

And one reason why Shep and Joker haven't hooked up yet could be...well...they're best friends, right? Sometimes you don't realize your best friend is the best lover. Also, Joker could be shy over the subject if he has feelings for Shepard (which I believe); he also could be afraid of letting someone that close - he must have been burned quite a bit to have a reply such as this: "This is why I don't date crew, commander". Shepard is your Shepard - something could have held her back like her job, or shyness as well, or even the Vrolik's kept her from making a move because she was scared of hurting him. It's a bit sweet yet shallow on her part - I can imagine Joker getting a little pissy at that and asking her if she's ever heard of "precautions".

@Silent ! *raises hand* Oooh! Oooh! Oooh! Pick me! Pick me! Okay, umm... Maybe it's because Shepard's pretty much his boss. I realize you could say the same about Kaiden and Ashley, but Joker has been working under Shepard for a LONG time. Though if they did have a romance, that would be an interesting explanation as to why nothing ever happened between them in 8 freaking years.
I love Joker and hope he's a romance option; I just HIGHLY doubt it.

I want to say I understand where you're coming from but it's not necessarily true, especially with the examples you brought up. Calcifer, C-3PO and Jar Jar Binx were comic relief and didn't get girlfriends and thats because in a movie with a limited time frame, you can really only focus on one relationship - which is the relationship with the most attention. However, in games like what Bioware does, you choose the relationship and that gets all the focus. So really, it doesn't necessairly matter.

Also, Alistair was like comic relief and we ended up with him no? As Jane so pointed out. In fact, I think one of the best qualities in a guy is one who can make you laugh when everything else seems grim.

And it was not eight years. They don't give us a whole lot of back info on Shepard/Joker beyond the games (I believe he might have been on the ship that pulled you out of the Skyllian Blitz) which means they knew each other through the first and second games - two of which Shep was dead. I don't believe it was eight years.

On the other hand, I can see why you have doubts what with Garrus and Kaidan being in the game as well and I would rather not get my hopes up if it doesn't happen. However, that wouldn't stop me from writing fanfiction

Gah, I cannot believe Alistair completely slipped my mind! I mean, we have a good example of a comic relief character being able to romance the female variant of the main character in a game distributed by the exact same company as Mass Effect and I chose DONKEY!?!? (What was I thinking?)

Also, good point in throwing Wakka into the mix! Though not a fan of that particular romance (seriously, Lulu, what the frak? You should be with someone awesome and gothic, not... HIM!). Gah, the mismatchedness drives me nuts. But yeah, it still counts!

Putting some thought into this; I think Joker has crossed the threshold of being just the comic relief character into also being the unlikely hero and the faithful friend! Also, throw in snarky pilot for good measure! I think romance applies to him.

Aw, I liked Lulu & Wakka, it was a nice case of "opposites attract". Besides, she started out dating his brother, who wasn't all that different from him, so it's not that outlandish.

Anyways, here's some possible scenarios on why a potentially interested Joker didn't make a move in either ME1 or ME2:

1. In ME1, they barely know each other. If Joker was interested, he could've been thinking "ah no, Alliance protocol". If Shepard then proceeded to hook up with Kaidan/Ashley (not discounting possibilities here), there goes both the protocol and Joker's chances out the window.

2. In ME2, there's the whole "whoops" with the SR1 getting collectored. Shepard is, to all intents and purposes, dead, and Joker probably blames himself a whole lot. If Shepard didn't hook up with Kaidan/Ashley, Joker would still blame himself after she comes back and/or not want to get involved, thinking "she/he probably needs time to adjust". Then Shepard hooks up with another squaddie and there go Joker's chances again.

If Shepard did hook up with Kaidan/Ashley but got pissed off because of Horizon, Joker still can't do anything, because he doesn't know if there's going to be a breakup or not.

3. In all logic, if there's going to be any kind of get together, that just leaves ME3. If Shepard didn't hook up with anyone in ME2 and/or ditched Kaidan/Ashley, that is.

And of course, any shyness involved on top of that would only reinforce the issues.

Of course, it could simply be that neither Joker nor Shepard have realised that there could be something worth exploring between them. Yet.

Yeah, I'm tired of lying to myself. I'll be very sad if there's no Joker romance - I won't be disappointed, I'll be rocking in-the-corner-sucking-her-thumb-sad. I'll have Garrus, and I am trying so hard not to hope for a Zaeed romance, but still...

We need to get an My LI Wasn't An LI group going. Just in case.

Yeah... the group thing was a pretty good idea. Perhaps we should kick one up when the game comes a little bit closer. Just in case, so we have somewhere to go crying if we don't get him. Augh... I'm European so I'll be glued to this thread just to see if Joker is a LI. If he is then my Joker-FemShep goes first. If he's not it's better to know in advance, cry in my pillow and let the Kaidan-FemShep go first. All of you who gets the game early, play as much as you can =)

See, I would want to scope these forums come March 6th to see if Joker is an LI, but I just do NOT want to be spoiled. I'll go through the forum and I KNOW I'll see posts akin to "OHH MY GOSH, I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY KILLED X" or "OHH MY GOSH, X DIED" or "OHH MY GOSH, THAT ENDING WAS AWESOME" or "OHH MY GOSH, I CAN'T BELIEVE THE REAPERS WERE DEFEATED BY X" or "OHH MY GOSH, I CAN'T BELIEVE THE REAPERS ARE X." I accidentally found out Shepard got rebuilt by Cerberus in the second game and that Garrus would be returning as a surprise squadmate while I was still playing the first game (I wanted to see Ashley's cameo, what can I say?), I am NOT letting it happen again! Also, I looked up the SM guide before the fact because my friend told me squaddies could get killed and I didn't want to mess up... Anyway, I don't trust BSN users (present company excluded, of course. You fellow Jokerites are my safe zone) enough to scroll through the forum just to see if Joker is an LI. Can I count on one of you to throw me a PM ONLY telling me if Joker is a romance or not? Because the first Shepard going through ME3 WILL be my main, regardless (sorry folks. I want to see Shepley-babies just as much as I want to see Shoker-babies).

Judging by how long it takes even the most hardcore of gamers to burn through both games, I can assume we'll get LI info within about 12-20 hours after launch... maybe earlier if people get their amazon pre-orders delivered early.

If Gamestop is open when I get off work (and it better be), I'm pulling an all-nighter and playing through the next day (will try to get the day off). Hearts will be all over my status updates. GUARANTEED if we get a Jokermance. I'm planning on having a light-ish class load next semester so that I can burn through ME3. I probably won't be able to play it all the way through the night...I want to be super-sharp when playing this game! I will just put off doing my homework til night and play ME3 during the day when I can.

Funny about that HP comment, Phantom...I did the same thing, but it was summer, so I could get away with ignoring the rest of the world. Lol. Even funnier, my mom and I usually got two copies of the books, because mother needed to read, too...and usually ignored husband and daughters for the duration.
