I think Kaidan was understandably confused, and given the odd situation he simply didnt know how to deal with it.
I mean your beau dies, then two years later theyre resurrected and working for terrorists. There isnt an 'appropriate' way to behave in that situation, and i doubt anyone could really claim to have acted better. He was so clearly wounded. He was obviously sorry in the email, and i know i'd forgive him in a heart beat after all that distance!
I cant play ME again, played it too much, even though im modding the crap out of it. Maybe next year in preparation
I totally agree with you, Nam.
The way I see it is that there's this huge communication gap between the VS (as LI and not as an LI) and Shepard during the Horizon dialogue exchange. The VS is so confused as to why Shepard is suddenly not only back from the dead, but willingly working with a group that the Alliance doesn't trust, a group that they themselves saw the bad side of on their original mission to take down Saren. Shepard, who understands his/her situation well enough (not very well), but doesn't quite know what's been going on in the VS's life/career because of the secret nature of it, is also confused. So they're both coming at this problem from different angles, with many highly-charged emotions involved, and they just don't see each others' perspectives. That, in turn, is a breeding ground for distrust, animosity, and a lot of hurt.
I imagine once they clear everything up in ME3, it'll be easier for both characters to handle. The trick will be getting past their respective biases.
I love ME1 very much as a game, love it to pieces. However, it is much more drawn out than ME2. The missions take forever and feel like a chore a lot of the time....also happens to make it more immersive, but I really don't like how laboriously long the original missions are. I don't really feel like I have a good "stopping place" in the original game during missions. With ME2 I can do a misson in half an hour on Normal and be done with it for a while, and go on to other things. I know ME2 has been criticized a lot for that, and people say that the RPG elements have been watered down as a result, but to me it makes the game more enjoyable and less of a chore. Just my own opinion.
As a result, I only do ME1 playthroughs for Skylar and Scarlett. They are my "Acheivement" and "Frontline" Sheps. I have a "canon" playthrough for Skylar where she romances Kaidan, then later will romance Joker if he's available in ME3, and a "Joker exclusive playthrough" which I will use to build up Sky's experience, then later import to ME2 for an Insanity playthrough. Scarlett I'm probably only going to run through ME1 once. Amara, Kathryn, and Mike are all Genesis, ME2-only Sheps that I just play multiple times through ME2 to get the necessary bonuses and whatnot. I might do an Amara ME1 playthrough eventually, since I've actually become quite fond of her, but that will be after ME3 comes out.
A note on Genesis: a friend of mine that really likes the ME story, but hasn't been able to play the games for himself (crazy-busy comp engineer that he is) said that watching me do the Genesis comic filled him in very well for what was going on and the kinds of choices you can make. I have to agree...there are little things you miss, but overall I think it does it's job very well of at least introducing people to ME1's storyline.
