I'm glad you liked my tread in the ME 2 section SilentK. I'm glad to see you made a new one. Go ahead and recopy everything if you want. I would definitely do so if you want to get the old members on the new one. I would have made one, but I haven't had the time. I've been really busy doing video marketing research. Anyway, I'm glad you guys are up and running and the Joker romance has a thread now. However, if we don't get the joker romance then we at least want some funny dialogue with him or shepard flirting with each other. That was the main purpose behind the romance thread I created in the old one. It took some time and it was a group effort. I can't take the credit for the opener on the thread. It was a team effort.Holla

Its been so long I forgot how to post video on this website. Grr. I'll refigure it out. Looks like I'm back on the Bioware forum site for awhile to relearn the coding of it. hehe.

There is a joker video I wanted to post for you.

@ PinkDiamondstl: I like to think it would start with either a slip of the tongue on Joker's part, or a deep conversation -- though deep conversation would probably be something he would rather avoid. I think with each "romantic" encounter, flirting or otherwise, Joker would just have to add some little quip at the end. I see his witty sarcasm as a defense mechanism and since he gets uncomfortable with "touchy feely" it would be his way to keep things light and ease any nervous tension. Just thinking about it gets my hopes up at the possibilities.

@Dragonperson. Nope, all of Joker is breakable. Not only does it specify so in the codex entry but also, when the Normanday is being destroyed in the ME2 opening, it is stated that at least his arms are also fragile.
I accept that a Joker romance might show up but I personally would like to see the time spent detailing it spent instead on something else.

Alright, I give in... where exactly in the codex are you reading this? Because I just went through the codex in both games and couldn't find any information about Joker or his condition! The Codex is just an encyclopedia; there is no information on the history of individual characters (other than Shepard's personal bio). Where are your sources?

Talking to Joker himself, however, yields enlightening results:

When asked about his disease: "Okay, I've got Vrolik's Syndrome. Brittle bone disease. The bones in my legs never developed properly, they're basically hollow. Too much force and they'll shatter." (Verbatim quote)

When asked if he can still do his job: "Uh, I don't fly with my feet, Commander." (Verbatim quote)

There are also several other examples I haven't listed (in both games) that point to Joker's condition effecting only his lower area.

Concerning Joker's reaction to Shepard grabbing his arm during the Collector attack, it could have just been a gut reaction to having one's arm forcibly thrust upward by a fully-armored individual. Nothing is "stated," you are just assuming that Joker has full-body Vrolik's syndrome because he said, "Argh! Watch the arm!"

Adding yet another point to the "You can't romance Joker because his bones will break like dried pasta" group, I highly doubt Femshep would try to engage in Kama Sutra with someone she cares about and knows very well to have fragile bones. Also, as someone else mentioned, the romance doesn't necessarily have to culminate in sex.

Yes, I took my meds today. *clears throat*

I can't be the only one who thought it would've been epic if EDI sounded like GLaDOS

Wheatley: Shepard! I've been thinking! A lot, actually... about the Reapers! Okay, hear me out on this one; the Reapers are somewhat sentient, yes? What if we just asked them to stop? They'd never see it coming! ...or would they? Ahh, they probably would. It was a stupid idea. Forget I mentioned it. Hey, y'know what? I'm going back down to weapons to help Garrus calibrate. I've got some great ideas! And, get this, he said that if I ever bothered him again, he would use me to test out the new cannons! Now, doesn't that sound like fun? I'll let you get back to work, now...

*pause*
*Wheatley returns, quickly*
Wheatley: Oh, and Shepard, one more thing; if Tali asks... y'know what, never mind. Not important. Goodbye!
*Wheatley leaves*

Shepard: What's this area of the ship?
Space Core: SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!

---

EDI: Defeat the Reapers, Shepard... and then there will be cake
Shepard and Joker: What?
EDI: Nothing...

This is making me wish for Portal references in ME3 now. The Wheatley one made me almost spit out my drink

Like EDI suddenly getting a body and having a weird novelty romance with Joker? ../../../images/forum/emoticons/uncertain.png

But
say, if by some weird reason we didn't get with Joker, the guy deserves
SOMEBODY. Not Kelly. No. She's sweet, but not his type.

I could live with Joker getting someone sweet. A psychologist who doesn't sleep with everything that moves might be a nice fit.

Re:EDI--I'm gonna have to go directly back here. Except, imagine that, only so loud it echoes into SPACE. *lol* But whenever I start to think something that stupid could happen, I just remind myself of the link in my signature. If Joker thought even something that light was creepy, then the integrity of the character will not allow him to go humping a girlbot anytime soon. I trust the writers not to be that lame/weird/disturbing.

I don't really think the 'falling in love with your best friend' thing is as much a cliche as it is just real life. It happens. Whenever there's a reason why the two of you didn't just get it on in the first place--and here there are some BIG reasons, like you work together, you're his boss, you possibly had Kaidan or somebody in  your life, you feared breaking his bones by boning him--it can be that the relationship just builds momentum until it bursts no matter what you intended or how you rationalized your feelings away. Here that really works. Joker and Shepard both have had a lot on their minds during their military careers, and unlike Kaidan, I don't think Joker would accept a relationship with Shepard unless it was truly real. The kind of thing which turns into a marriage, a lasting one, not just some silly fling.

Save my ass. First from my own stubbornness, and now from the Alliance.
And both times you threw yourself under the bus for me! I mean, I'm
just a pilot, Commander. Sure, a damn good one, the best, but you... well, you're you. So important that your name is usually followed by "the". I don't get it.

SHEPARD: Well, without you there is no great and glorious The Commander Shepard.

JOKER: Uh, what?

SHEPARD: How many times have you saved me, Joker? You've always been there when I needed you.

JOKER: Commander.

SHEPARD: I don't want anyone else at this helm, Joker. Ever. I trust you. With my life.

JOKER: Oh, uh. Wow. Um. That-that's--

EDI: Jeff, you're drifting off course by .0003%. I suggest immediate correction.

JOKER: ****!

Or, that's how I'd want it to start. Slow. Joker and Shepard have been friends for a long time now. It shouldn't be sudden. I want it to build.

That is brilliant! I could really see it happening like that... just reading that made me all dreamy. You are really good. :) Oh, man... if they did it anything like that, I would be SO happy.

That was really good; thank you for sharing it. Very emotional. I'm glad I played through the bad ending of ME2... it was so tearful watching Joker lose Shepard. Just epic. Clinched for me even more how much I want the two together.

LOVE the picture. Tommy Lee Jones sums sums it up perfectly.

I went looking in the codex too because I was confused/curious. In the Mass Effect Wikia, nothing states that Joker's Vroliks affects his entire body. But yes, I only see Vroliks affecting Joker's legs. "Argh! Watch the arm" would have been anyone's reaction being wrenched out of a chair so harshly. And broken ribs? I think I said before anyone would have gotten broken ribs in that position.

here's how I got around the Kaiden dilemma: played ME1 on Xbox, romanced Kaiden.
Played ME2 on PS3 and denied everything on the Genesis comic. "I did not have sexual relations with that man.". :-)
Great way to have an available Shep with no previous romantic entanglements while still experiencing the romance plotlines.
Note: this option only available for nerds with multiple consoles. I mean me. :-)

This is how I did it for Kara - I didn't do an ME1 playthrough with her, only ME2, and when it asks, in the comic, for who you chose, him or Liara, I said the mission was more important. She had no prior relationship XD

Another Joker-romance fan.

Just made a custom-play femShep through of ME1 without any relationships; planning to do the same with ME2 with the same character... and being nice to Joker every step of the way to leave room for possibly a "bigger" relationship. ;)

I don't have the comic and I don't have the money to purchase it either, so I'm kind of set at killing him off XD I should probably have a playthrough with just Ashley anyways since I've never let her live because Kaidan is just so hunky. Hurrhurr.

I'm doing the same thing with a character - letting Ash live just so I can have a playthrough with her since in all the others, Kaidan is alive.  It's why I've created a male for the first time, just so I don't have the option to romance Kaidan XD

I wouldn't mind if Joker hooked up with someone when he's not romanced by Shepard. Like Fenris and Isabela did in Act 3 in DA2. I'm not sure I can see how that could be integrated in the game, but still...

Paterik, this inspired me… *cracks knuckles* time to give a shot at this initiation scene!

Joker: (turning his chair towards Shepard) Commander?

*blah, blah, blah, insert filler dialogue here*

Joker: Hey, Commander. Before you go, can I ask you something?
Shepard: What’s up? And don’t say the sky.
Joker: It’s funny, because we’re in space. Anyway, you know about  <insert name of new female Normandy crewmember>?
Shepard: Haven’t had much of a chance to get to know her. Why?
Joker: Well, word around the scuttlebutt says she’s available. I need your opinion on something… more specifically, a woman’s opinion on something. You’re a woman, right?
Shepard: Uhh, last time I checked.
Joker: Great. So, uh, whaddya think? Should I go for it? I mean, I might have the sick puppy advantage, but would she appreciate that? Or should I go for my whole macho “I saved this crew a dozen times over” routine?

*At this point, Shepard has four choices; one of them is “Investigate” by default, the lower right one is “Whatever,” the middle one initiates Joker’s romance with the NPC with a “Go for it,” while the upper right one is an “Are you sure?” For the sake of this scene, I’ll go with the upper right option*

Shepard: Joker, are you sure about this?
Joker: Well, the whole “dozen times over” thing might be a little overkill, but maybe I’ll get lucky! She probably thinks the sound of snapping shinbones is sexy!
Shepard: I mean about <name>. She’s only been with us for a short time. What if she isn’t what you expect?
Joker: Eh, you’re probably right, Commander. Seems like she’s out of my league, anyway. Besides, the whole “world ending” thing might put a damper on things.

*Romance initiating option shows up, “You know… I’m available, too” or “Goodbye” The choice for this scene is obvious*

Shepard: My opinion: you should get together with someone you’ve known for awhile. A certain someone who’s been with you through a lot. Life threatening situations, for example. And more often than once…
Joker:  I appreciate that, Commander, but the Normandy is still just a ship…

*awkward silence*

Joker: Wait, Commander, are you saying…
Shepard: Me? I’m not saying anything, Joker…

*more awkward silence*

EDI: Shepard; my thermal sensor readings of you have just now detected a sudden spike in temperature, which may indicate a fever. I suggest visiting Dr. Chakwas for preventative measures.
Shepard: (through gritted teeth) Thanks… EDI… <_<
Joker: I- err…
Shepard: Joker?
Joker: You know, Commander, I was gonna have lunch down in the mess at around noon… maybe you would like to have lunch, too?
Shepard: I think I would like that.
Joker: Err, great! I’ll bring the chips!
Shepard: See you, then.
Joker: (turning his chair towards the controls) See ya, Commander.
