He meant 12 hours of recording sessions, not 12 hours of in-game dialogues. None character in ME has that much, doubt even Shep has more than 5-10 hours of straight talking when you put it together. ME voice actors record in 4-hour sessions every few weeks/days. Seth Green's first 4-hour session was on May 22, and by July 19 he was already done. This is true, thanks for correcting me on that point.
However, what I've read of Joker's lines from the beta leaks seems to be on par with, if not less, than his dialogue in ME2. If Joker has the same amount of dialogue in ME3 as he does in ME2, then that's probably it...however, I highly doubt that. There are also many things I've read about in the beta leaks that he doesn't even mention in his leaked lines. So I have concluded that's not all of it. I don't see how it could be.

...Besides, the EDI/Joker thing was kind of awkward and gross. Merely because they're too much like family for me to handle as a romance.
Although maybe I should have a free FemShep just in case...
Wish you luck!

Sadly, I can't see the Shepard romance happening BUT I could definitely see a loyalty-style mission: Normandy brings on some new people. Joker catches the attention of a lovely lady. Shepard has to help Joker get a date. Upon successful ending and saving Earth, Joker has a real lady (No EDI, that's just comic relief) and flies off into the sunset. Happy Ending.

May I ask you why you can't see a JokerxShepard romance happening? Because of the leaked script? We hope it is as Bioware said unfinished and outdated. Or do you think they don't fit to each other? That would depend on how you play your Shepard, but there are several good reasons for why we think they would be a great couple (see op on page 1). The effort for adding the side-mission that you mentioned would be even greater than a simple (but well written) JokerxShepard romance. Although I must say I would like to have a kind of side-mission with and for Joker and I definitely prefer a human living being as his girlfriend over EDI if it can't be Shepard. Whatever happens, hopefully we get as much Joker as possible...

I agree. Rather another human being over EDI. Someone said something about that if EDI had a male or a genderless voice than people would find it less "cute".
....Well, I thought about that for a while. And if EDI had a male voice then I think I've might have supported it as a "crack pairing" for being so different from all the other AI/Human relationships. For all the AI/Human relationships I've came across is between a sexy, hot "female" AI and a Male human, often the lead. So if it was a relationship between a Male human and a "male" AI then I would support it for being different and funny.

Me too. I never posted in a forum before I came to this forum and thread. First I wanted to participate on the Garrus thread, as I am a great Garrus fan too (and Kaidan too I should add, but I wasn't really feeling homely in his thread), but they had already so much people supporting him and than I found the Joker thread and I was glad to see that other people had the same idea how much Joker would be a great romance option. And now this is practically the one and only thread for me. It is thrilling to know that our support could really be leading to a JokerxShepard romance, like how the fans were successful in getting a Tali and Garrus romance in ME2. It is a great thing that Bioware listen to the fans.

You know, I think this is why people keep talking about how cute JokerxEDI would be - only because they imagine to see EDI as a NPC shaped like Tricia Helfer or Number Six from BSG. Like having your very own Tricia Helfer or Number Six on the Normandy. I am wondering when people will start to cry for a EDI/Shepard romance.
In the german language version, EDI has still a female voice but it sounds more mechanical. Without knowing the voice actor I doubt that so many people would still like to see this pairing. This is the disadvantage if you take famous people as voice actors - there is a high chance that people will not see their voiced role but the person behind it or other roles. We already had several visitors in our thread claiming that we only want a romance with Joker because he is voiced by Seth and so that we want a Seth romance option. Which is nonsense - of course Seth has many fans and he does a great job as voice actor but Joker as character is interesting without Seth - I played for a long time the german language version and did not know who was voicing him in the english version and I did not know Seth but I was still a fan of Joker. And don't forget that Joker was build after an unknown canadian guy, not Seth Green - there may be some similarities but he is not his pixel image.
The subject of how far an AI is able to develop is surely an interesting topic, but as every development, this should take time and is a matter of try-and-error. That EDI develops within 6 months or so to a nearly perfectly living being with consciousness, feelings, female mind and so on is just cheap and even in a fictional universe rather unlikely.

*so ashamed*
I'm really bad with celebrities. The other day when I saw Keanu Reeves in a TGWTG review, I pronounced his name like "Quinoa" which is a type of food.
People call me self-centered because I don't really care about learning the name of celebrities. I just don't care. In my defense, it makes people de-attached to the character they're supposed to be playing, when I can enjoy the character more than just the actor/actress.

You guys confuse me with your similar avatars!
To answer your question, the reason I don't see it happening is due to the way I perceive the character's roles to be. Now, I will have a smile on my face if, come March 6th I am proven wrong. I just happen to see Joker as pigeonholed as comic relief and occasional hero. The writers want you to feel attached to the characters, and this thread is testament to that - BUT I think that asking players to invest time and emotional attachment on Joker's relationships isn't worth the development time for what you would get out of the story. Does that make sense?
I don't see it as a storyline limitation, there's certainly no story reason that makes me say No, it's a technical / project limitation. I try to view it from the perspective of the devs - They have a finite amount of story to smush into the shipped game and this being the final installment, they have to make it count and Joker ends up on the cutting room floor.
Anywho, you guys rock! I'm happy to see people having constructive talks about it.
My wall of text aside, what's going to happen after ME3 comes out? Think this forum will die off?

Thank you for your explanation. Of course you are right - there are only limited ressources for everything, but a romance is a rather small part and seeing that Bioware could use the time to implement a JokerxEDI romance we think it is better used to give us our JokerxShepard romance which gives the player more reasons to replay the game with different Shepards. And Joker is a character that was with Shepard and us from the beginning with Mass Effect 1. Instead of adding several new characters as new LIs it would just feel natural to give us him as romance option. For those who see him as a brother or only friend the romance is optional.
After ME2 comes out (for you guys in USA sooner as in Europe, unfortunately I will have to wait until the ninth of march) there will be much discussion on the boards about everything. If there is a Joker romance there will be much discussion about it and Joker in general on this board, and even without a romance there will be a discussion, but I think people will be so disappointed that it will be not much fun. I don't think it will die off, because Joker is part of the game and there will be new information and dialogue to discuss but with Joker as romance option I think it will last longer.
Sorry, just noticed how I always tend to write walls of text....must learn to keep things short.

But yes, I think that the thread won't die off completely after Mass Effect 3 even if there's no Jokermance. But if there is, then it probably will last longer and maybe even get more people discussing in it.
