I would like to think that Miranda would have a hidden athlete inside of her, but I don't think that's the case. I can see her having a very methodical and scientific workout combined with what I assume is a perfect metabolism to bolster her perfect appearance, but I think someone who speaks with erudition to have a side that's purely physical is very endearing and adds to the allure of the person.

It's true that I have a bit of hard time seeing her do anything... outdoorsy, like hiking or skiing or whatever (on one occasion sure, but not as a hobby). Martial arts seem to fit, and I like the fencing and archery ideas as well.

Being a former Judo student myself (As is my Shepard), I approve of Miranda practicing MA.

I could see her doing Tai Chi (She can keep her calm and cool in just about any situation).

In terms of actual combat, I could see some Muay Thai or Braz. Jiu Jitsu.

If anything it'd be Muay Thai or American Boxing since those are the most fundamental and effective martial arts known to man. BJJ or Judo are for people expecting to encounter people in grappling or greco wrestling.

Muay Thai and American Boxing are for people expecting to get into street fights, or brawls and need to knock someone out quickly. T'ai chi ch'uan is for people seeking meditative movement or someone whose very instrospective with thier mind turned toward the esoteric. Miranda's too methodical a person to enjoy that.

I'd say Hun Gar, but that's too fancy, even though its the most "real" form of Gung fu boxing.

Boxing, maybe not. Her build doesn't really go with it, imo. She seems more lithe and agile than brutishly powerful.

Boxing isn't even a martial art (At least, I don't see it as one, and apparently wikipedia agrees), or did you mean kickboxing?

American boxing is a martial art, and most practioners would agree its in the fundamentals of any martial art that isn't centered around grappling. It teaches the fundamentals of proper hitting, blocking, stances, conditioning, and movement. You can't even do karate without learning all of the basics you'll learn in American Boxing.

But if we're going by body type, she's not really suited for any since her chest is quite large and would cause quite a bit of difficulty while training, not to mention sparring would be a b**ch. Imagine taking two knees or packing kick to the chest when you have d size breasts. I imagine it wouldn't be pleasant. Most female boxers look like this...

Thin (which Miranda is except for her large chest) typically smaller breasts and a fair amount of definition. It doesn't mean she couldn't practice them, but I think her body type would give her difficulties at being proficient in Muay Thai (Which Herig, in the pic has won several titles for) or Boxing. However, considering her legs and butt are fairly bigger and I'm assuming of mostly muscle mass, Muay Thai would be the best bet for her. Incorporating more of her lower body while standing would utilize her legs more than grappling like in BJJ.

At least she doesn't have to worry about "below the belt"...

In all seriousness,

I'm not sure why, but I could see Miranda attempting Jeet Kun Do.

And if she were to fence, I wouldn't put it past her to also try out Kendo.

Whole heartedly agree, not just because it looks better but because its more realistic.  If a woman is going to kick the ass of a two ton Yarhg while making it look easy, she should be an athlete..

You know, feminine but athletic and strong enough that she can f**k you up is she has to. And since its Shepard, she will.

I thought Kendo or Iaido something where you'd use a katana, much more lethal than a rapier, would fit the lethality part of the equation but fencing was made to seem more elegant. In the fututre though I don't really see the practicality of either, its practically a dead art now, with the exception of die hard martial artists and people in Japan who are descendants of Samurai and have held the tradition for centuries.

I could see the allure of Jeet Kune Do since it tried to grab the best bits of everything and put it into one art. That would capture her attention because of it's implied efficacy.

What she/he said.

Femshep should look like a badass. I mean Miranda's character design is supposed ot be perfect, and comes close to many portrayls of the ideal woman. However, she doesn't inspire intimidation or respect from her physical appearance but from her attitude and actual manner of speaking. Femshep should be able to do both since she's the hero of the epic.

I'd actually have been perfectly fine with Miranda having a more athletic build as well. I do think the boxer's physique makes sense for femshep, or Ashley. For Miranda, maybe more like a gymnast.

I don't want to change it now, but had it always been that way, I think that would have made sense.

@Android

That's why I typed "Try out" instead of "Stick with".

And it's more for sport than anything. Assuming sword fighting to be practical in a world where there have been firearms for thousands of years (Or even in the modern world today) is just absurd.

The same reason I took Judo. Aside from tournaments, I just found it really cool and fun. I don't expect to have to dispatch someone after getting mugged. I could just as easily punch him in the face and shove his nose bone into his brain.

So flying like Superman?

You can't really fly unless you're in a vehicle (Helicopter, Airplane, etc)

Basically yes, you're actually flying, not merely riding in a vehicle that's flying. Obviously that's impossible for us to do. But I imagine it'd be the most freeing sensation in the world.
I guess you could get close with paragliding or something...

Haven't fully followed the martial arts discussion but I belive this was brought up before. I don't know that Miranda or Shepard would necessarily adhere to our modern martial arts. But some derivative of them sure, again with a focus on practicality and quick takedowns. It'd work a little differently for biotics as well as they'd have to account for it, both to incorporate their powers into a fight and to defend against it (or evade). Both would be well-versed in their respective styles.

The martial arts thing was more for sport, than actual combat use.

I'd fully expect them to use something similar to SPEAR (Developed by the U.S. Military), which is meant purely for self defense.

I'd love it if it was revealed that, in addition to being a brilliant scientist, Miranda also used to be Cerberus second best wetwork operative.

Edit: You know what. I just want to hear more about what type of missions Miranda performed for Cerberus. Period.

I wouldn't say a maneater. That implies that she doesn't feel love and is just a money grubbing wh*re.

A gold digger, if you will.

My Shepard would definitely DJ this song-

That song sounds a LOT better through my turtle beaches.
