This is how it actually is:

Shepard: "Come on, Miranda. You want this...."

Miri: Yeah, I do...so don't die. You promise me dammit." (One of my favorite Miri Quotes)

Shepard (If you choose "I Promise"): I died once already. I don't plan to do it again." This makes the conversation a little shorter.

Miri: Give me some time. When I'm ready, I'll come by, ok?

Shepard (If you choose "No Promises"): I doesn't work that way. We could all be dead this time tomorrow...so if it's not worth it...."

Miri: *Stands up and hugs Shepard* "No, it is. Give me some time. When I'm ready, I'll come by, ok?

As much as Iike the hug, I still don't fully understand the significance of say " No Promises."

And what does Miri fully mean when she says "No, it is?"

Anyone want to enlighten me?

She's telling Shepard that she loves him.

If ME3 is an improvement, maybe that means BW is learning how to work that system better.

Well,
not sure how the thought-process actually went, but my impression is
that Shepard's impassivity is mostly a leftover piece of design from
games like DA:O, where the protagonist is not voiced.

Basically,
it feels like the thinking was: the player character should not be too
emotive, in order to allow the player to emote/roleplay, etc. But
I don't think it really works that way because, once the protagonist is
voiced, s/he becomes a bigger part of the scene than in the other model.

Anyway, seems like they are moving beyond this and letting Shepard be more emotional.

This was my opinion. But it seems you cannot ggo half way. Either no voice or make them a proper character.

I disagree. I think Shepard was very sincere and caring when he delivered the "You give your father too much credit" line.

Yes, definitively. "I can't admire your body or your mind?" is, IMO, the best line in the entirety of the romance.
Also, it leads to another nice line in the next conversation "I care about you, Miranda, and I think you care about me."
It is a pity they were not able to follow up nicely.

But it can be followed up IIRC with the worst line in the whole series: "You had two years to look at my, and I was wearing a lot less than you", or something.

That just sounds deranged. Shepard was dead, Miranda was hardly getting her kicks having a peep. Properly mental.

IDK, I still think comparing the First Contact War to the Genophage still holds its throne as worst line ever.

@oh

If delivered after the "No promises", then it kinda fits (In terms of the tone and light heartedness, not the actual wordplay). It gives me the impression that Shepard is just lightening the mood, after the entire last line being somber and kind of sad.

If he worded it differently (Or said something else entirely), it would be more apparent, but the way it's implemented, it comes off as weird.

But wouldn't saying "No Promises" make Miri insecure about their future, and feel less confident about what might happen?

What if it cause a dramatically bad impact in ME3? Just by ONE Sentence?

That's what I'm always concerned about. Every time I reach this point in the game, I'm in a dreadful debate of which one to say. Promise, or No Promises??

Basically, one or both of them could fall against the Collectors. Should this happen, they (Shepard and Miranda) will suffer.
Thus, Shepard is asking if the happiness they will share during their little time together is it worth it the risk of tremendous suffering after the assault on the Collectors.
Miranda answers that it is.

I don't think so. Miranda is emotional (When pushed or when interacting with people she trusts/loves), but she isn't weak. She feels the impact and weight of the words, but she still has faith in Shepard, and she shows him by saying her reply.

"My father hurt me Shepard, but he didn't break me."

Yeah, I have no problem with a jokey comment. Just that one was awful. Really, really awful.
For me, much worse than teh first contact war/genophage comment. If Jacob said something similar in the fShep romance it would have blown "the prize" out of the water.

Oh, c'mon. Is there anything sexier than Shepard reminding Miranda that, when she first saw him in person, he was basically meat and tubes with not enough salvageable organs down there to distinguish between him and a woman?

I think there are 4 flags carried over: is she loyal, romanced, did you sleep with her, and is she alive. I don't think other comments will have an affect.

I don't remember exactly when in the game she says it, but I believe it is the conversation Shepard acquires her LM (Or right before).

I was just using that phrase as an example though.

And that makes you a... quasi- celebrity Image IPB

As far as info is concerned, see if you can find out who Miranda's new writer is Image IPB

(Not really a serious request, I know you probably can't realistically do that.)

That almsot sounds like a challenge :P

No I think...I think...it's when you help Miri defeat Enyala, and she talks about something involving putting people she cares about in danger, I think. Then you tell her that she can't avoid everyone in her life...or something, idk. Then I think Miri says that quote. If I had a video I'd remember.

I don't even know if I'm even remotely close.

I'm almost certain it's on the Normandy, in her office. She's sitting at her desk when she delivers it.

No, Luis is right. It's on her loyalty mission, after they kill Enyala.

"Miranda: It's always been like this. My father gave me anything I ever wanted, but there was always a hook, an angle for his long-term plan.
Miranda turns to face Shepard.
Miranda: I threw away everything he ever gave me when I ran. Except Niket. Weakness on my part.
That's not healthy.
Shepard: You can't toss aside everything you care about just to be safe.
Miranda: It's okay, Shepard. My father hurt me, but he didn't break me.
Miranda: As much as he tried to turn me into exactly what he wanted... I'm my own person."

^ This I have said every part of that conversation when Miri reveals her problem (EXCEPT for telling her to wait, I'll never do that), I have not heard Miri say that during that scene.

I don't know if saying "That's not healthy" really fits saying "You still have Oriana." What do any of you think?

Oh.

Well, if that's the case, then... OK. I was wrong.

Still, I was just using that particular phrase as an example of her showing emotion, but not being weak.

When you say that and Miri says "I'm my own Person" and then you say "You still have Oriana."

I'm tying to figure out how that fits together, order wise.

IIRC, "That's not healthy" was an investigate option (Or just a left-side dialogue). It would have probably benn better if it was right-side.

@edit: Not sure.
