Ieldra was refering to how Miranda looks when there's bad lightning, like on Omega .
It's like BioWare decided to never fix that bug just to troll people.

I'll take you up for a short derailment: My Cyrus Shepard acts on the principle of never destroying information. It could turn out to be useful in unexpected ways. This principle influenced the following decisions: keeping Maelon's genophage data, keeping Kasumi's graybox, keeping the Collector base, keeping the Cerberus data from Lorek for himself. About the graybox specifically, it might prove a bargaining chip should he ever need a lever with the Alliance.CrutchCricket wrote...
Anyway I'll be posting some more screenshots tonight hopefully, when the shackles of employment no longer bind me. I pretty much know what all my choices are gonna be except for one. I'm not sure what to do with Kasumi's gray box. In the past I've been indifferent and there was an option that said "do it, it's what Keiji wants you to" so I took that every time. Now I'm wondering if it's worth keeping or if there are any other motivations Shepard might have. I don't mean to derail though, so if you have any thoughts feel free to PM or take it to the Kasumi thread. I plan on asking around there too but discussion amongst the regulars isn't quite as...robust over there.
Oh my, I just opened up my Miranda screenshot folder randomly. This never gets old.....

This pic is great . On that note, I loved the picture Ieldra posted a week ago, a drawing ( I believe ) of Miranda's face which I found stunning .

Anyway...what's "Uncanny Valley?"
This: Uncanny Valley. Its the phenomenon that when human replicas look almost human they tend to evoke revulsion, as opposed to when they look completely alien. That's the reason why Garrus never looks ugly to our eyes, but Miranda does in certain lighting conditions.

Anyway...what's "Uncanny Valley?"
The idea is that when robots (originally) or CGI-rendered characters (by extension) are made to look more like humans, humans feel increased empathy with them up to a certain point, but then, when the resemblance is very close, but not perfect, there is a sentiment of revulsion or antipathy all of sudden, which is then removed when the ressemblance attains perfection.
This sudden dip in empathy is the "uncanny valley."
Not really sure the term is appropriate for things like shading on Omega, actually. For the most part, I don't think characters in ME really suffer from the "uncanny valley" effect, as the resemblance to actual people is not great enough. This is something you see more in mo-cap animation films like Tintin or the Polar Express, because there the resemblance is great enough to reach the "uncanny valley."
In ME, really what we are talking about is that the facescanning and so on is sometimes bad enough that it just doesn't look good. So, if you were looking at the graph, with empathy increasing until the sudden dip of the "uncanny valley," and, beyond that, returning to the lofty heights of perfect resemblance, the ME characters would sometimes just fall really early on the upward curve.
To summarize: bad facescans and poor animations, etc., are not really the same thing as the "uncanny valley."

And when it comes to "Uncanny Valley," the movie AVATAR definitely does not suffer through it lol.
IIRC, Avatar was a fairly bright movie.
And a terrible movie, but we shouldn't get entangled in that.

I have a "Miranda with no visor mod", in case you like the armor but not the visor. I like the visor though. Even on the Normandy occasionally, though she's wearing her loyalty outfit there most of the time - even pre-LM, thanks to yet another modification.AgitatedLemon wrote...

An an aside, I plan to play Miranda's LM late in my Cyrus Shepard replay, just in case I need to change something like (not) making Miranda talk to Oriana. I think I have confirmed at some time that this sequence is possible:
Reaper IFF - Miranda's LM - LM debriefing - Legion's LM - the kiss scene - Crew abduction - the promise scene - Omega 4 relay.
Edit:
Avatar: visuals: stunning. Plot and characters: abysmal.

At least, that's how it always played out for me.
IFF --> Obtain Legion's LM --> Do Legion's LM --> Crew abducted.

Perhaps she can. I do her LM late on that chance.jtav wrote...
I have two versions with Matt, but she's just so proud when she talks about Oriana that it brings a tear to my eye. Why can't she be a ruthless operative and a loving sister at the same time?
