Re: the whole romance issue, I find "not good enough" to be a weird way of putting it, since it feels derogatory. I wouldn't say that Jacob is not good enough for Miranda, he is good enough, they obviously enjoyed each other's company, and she cares about him (seemingly no longer in a romantic way, but he is still part of the small group of people toward whom Miranda feels a large amount of attachment and loyalty).
To me the issue is more that I don't see the relationship as having any meaning or presenting any challenge to the character, thus there is no story potential there. Shepard, on the other hand, does present a challenge, and the relationship is meaningful on the many different levels that we have discussed on other occasions.
I had never really considered it before, but I think Liara is the other relationship that potentially could be meaningful in a similar way. Because Miranda seems to see Asari culture, in certain respects, as the goal to which she aspires (model for human advancement).
