Let me rephrase that:

The vibe I get from the leak is that deep down, Miranda just wants a loving family and all the extraordinary things she did are compensations for the normal life she can't have. And her family is the only thing she cares about. The ambition that attracted me is absent. The devs are not framing this a both/and but either/or.

It isn't necessarily as bad as you're making it sound.

She's still ambitious, but she isn't letting it define her.

It's character evolution. They aren't doing a 180 and turning her into a Disney princess, who just wants to know love.

I see and understand Miranda's desire to protect her family as embodied by her sister. We needed to see this part of  Miranda to see the human side of her engineered condition. But her ambition is definitely not diminished as I've seen it. They are trying to save the galaxy, after all. Hope I'm right about that.

As far as 'normal' is concerned. Screw that! Man was made to look at the sky and figure out how to get there on his own terms, not stare at the birds and wish that he was them. I have no desire to be normal, it's a self limiting condition. I don't think Miranda really wants to be normal either, she has greater things in mind.

Then elaborate.

Seems some people think she has a desire to be normal. I don't see that either in her or Shepard. Achievers don't want to be included in the pack, they want to lead it. And the story has definitely set them in a leaders role that they accept freely.

Look at the last page, final post, I think.

She envies "Normal" people, like Shepard, who are able to accomplish the things she can, albeit with much higher difficulty.

She acknowledges that she's better than 99.999% of the population, but she envies the people that can match her, with their "faults". She isn't rushing to the ballpark to become normal though, She knows she's better off how she is.

I read your post. Seems in a round-a-bout way we're saying the same thing. I think Shepard has already helped her put the envy issue behind her. And Shepard is far from normal regardless of his pedigree or education. The fact that some treat him as an idiot kind of galls me. I was actually addressing the broader tone of the entire page (as I skimmed it in the limited time I had available). :)

Hence the quotations on normal, in regards to Shepard.

If there are a million people in the galaxy, and 3 of them can match Miranda's level of skill, she'll be kinda jealous of those 3 people, because they did it without the "crutch" that she has. By crutch, I mean her enhanced abilities.

And Shepard is only as dumb as the choices you have him make;)

I personally think Miranda is an agnostic.

Anyways...

Miranda silently enters Shepard's cabin...

Shepard *playing with his pet fish*: Hey Miri! C'mere, I got food.

M: Excuse me?

S: Oh shi-uh...hey Miri, what's up?

M: Did you name that Thessian Sunfish after me?

S: No...well no-*sees Miranda's glare*-alright fine, yes I did.

M: Why on Earth would you do that?

S: I dunno...if it's any consolation, I called my pet hamster over there Mordin.

M: It isn't. *thinks to herself* Why do I care about this weirdo so much...

I don't think Miranda has the ability to be that petty based solely on her observed actions. Sure she has said it, but the words ring hollow. In my mind even Miranda knows that even with her engineered body and mind the odds are still stacked against her in the randomness of the universe, she is too smart as portrayed to really think otherwise, and is in awe of Shepard because she has found that in him/her. I see a lesson in that for all of us.

I don't view it as petty.

Anyway, you're entitled to your views, and I'll stick with mine. I personally think Miranda being envious of the "Normal" people adds a touch of emotion to the Shepard/Miranda romance, what with Shepard reassuring her that she can be proud for what she's accomplished, and him telling her that she isn't defined by how she was made.

Do I want to forget this business of killing Miranda and just have Lawrence romance her? In-game I mean. She makes for an entertaining ghost in-story.

The simple truth is that Miranda is a wonderful heroine either dead or alive. It's nice the way they set it up that way. It pulls at your heart strings. But the way I see it now, it's better to bring her alive into ME3 as your LI.

Hope that I understood your question correctly, being the new guy and all.

Was Lawrence the douchebag renegade one?

Off topic, but I'm starting a short story on a hypothetical ME3 scenario where Miranda dies (At the same place as she can in-game, and with a handful of the same circumstances).

I have the basic outline mapped out- Shepard walks in and sees Miranda suffering, in pain, and dying. I don't want to spoil how exactly she dies (I'll PM if anyone is curious), but Shepard will become a man stricken with guilt, and struck with the knowledge that if he had been faster, he could have saved her and subdued the person that did this to her.

I was thinking of 2 possible follow up scenarios.

1. An anger-driven revenge story (Similar in thought to the Punisher), or-

2. A sad, somber story about Shepard finishing through with what Miranda was trying to accomplish.

I have a basic dialogue plan mapped out for both, but which would you find more interesting?

I hope I don't have to make that choice (with Miranda or ANY squadmate, really), but if I have to?  Yeah, I'll do it.  Lives of the many take precedence over the life of one.

Sorry. I'm writing a fanfic and she died on the SM in that. Only Cerberus brought her back as an AI. I like to play through fanfic Sheps to get a feel for them, but killing her is making me a bit queasy since dead is dead in the games.

In-game, let her live. No need to do something you're not comfortable with.
