It comes through pretty strongly if you don't let her talk to her sister. It's pretty clear that security isn't why she's staying away. More that she's afraid she's somehow toxic for her sister or that Oriana will reject her.
I agree she's a little harsh to herself in the other version, but your interpretation is incongruous with the tone she uses when she first looks at Oriana and says you should leave. It's as if she's looking for an after-the-fact justification for shying away from the contact with her sister.
