I want to draw your attention to
this series of articles on what Bioware didn't get right in Mass Effect from a feminist perspective. Briefly summarized, the article criticizes Miranda for the undue emphasis placed on her looks as opposed to other aspects of her genetic engineering and the overly personal and emotional nature of her loyalty mission.
And articles like that are why I'm here. Because I don't like competent and strong female characters being reduced to fan service. Everybody and their dog advocates for tender, emotional Miranda. There's very little chance that we won't see that side of her. But there is a real chance that that side of her will dominate and the twenty year veteran operative will be pushed aside. I will advocate to see more of that Miranda until I'm hoarse because it was the mixture that drew me in. I know she won't lose the part of her that will do anything for her sister, but I am concerned that we'll lose the part of her that tells you not to go on the SM until you're fully prepared. I've seen way too many interesting female characters brought low and reduced to nothing more than a subordinate bit of eye candy for the male hero to see that happen to Miranda.
