I think Leng's meant to rectify that, give the players someone they want dead.

its going to be a negative to me.  I cant stand those one dimensional bad guys, that are evil just cause.  almost pulls me from the game in disgust. Just seems to me he'll end up being entirely one dimensional and in no real way deserving to be in the position he's in.  Like the only way he's in that position is because of story convience, and itll be obvious playing the game.

Mmm... Funny thing. Shepard rarely fight with his/her nemesis during the game.

You only fight against Saren twice, and against the collectors three times. Most of the game you are fighting against mercenaries.

I think that is part of what Saren a much better antagonist than Harbinger. Harbinger suffered from over saturation, and the fact that he was laughably beatable every time he'd appear. Usually you or one of your squad mates ended up killing him mid taunt.

It would have been much better if Harbinger rarely appeared in person, and when he did you had a boss fight on your hands.

didnt come across that way to me, never felt like I faced harbinger, just another drone amplified because he was controling him. It worked for me, because it kept harbinger in the picture, and his unique dialogue about my different squadmates are always interesting. His comments had an angle to them, and I spent time trying to figure out his motives. I liked it.

@schemeta
No not really. Bad guys like Kai Leng are meant to be an equal to Shepard on a personal level while the Reaper threat is still there.

See kai wont come across as sheps equal in my eyes. Just a skilled drone imo. Sheps skill is only half of what makes him great. in a fuzzy way.

You must know nothing about Kai Leng then. He could go toe to toe with Shepard and win. He isn't 1 dimensional

Leng isn't there to be deep. He's there to take what you love away from you.

I think Swag and shep1038 equate being equal to shep on a skill level as being equal to shep peroid. With Saren, saren almost even surpassed shep in skill but was epic is that it was also a conflict of ideology. Saren had his own values that added dimension to his character, and through sovergein could also match sheps leadership ability. Kai Leng doesnt have any ideology. Just a skill set, and saturated him in "evil" deeds to make him "evil"

just doesnt do anything for me. Just was hoping bioware would evolve in all areas and not regress in some

Like jtav he isn't there to be deep the game wants you to hate him, kind of like how Avatar wanted you to hate the humans but not as cheap

Not all villains have to be grey. I think ME has too many flat villains, but there's nothing wrong with a character existing to be hated. He's the Howe to TIM's Loghain.

Kai Leng is there to evoke on a personal level with Shepard, A Big part of Mass effect 3 is trying to figure out
What cerberus is doing, what do they plan to do , Like cerberus launching attacks on Shepard,
So Kai Leng is character that you fight all throughtout Me3, he's there to anger Shepard , take things that
Shepard loves away from him. So that makes the battles with Kai Leng all that emotional in the Game.

edit: Is not who he is, Is what he does that make him an interesting character.

I see what you guys are saying. I want to confront TIM then. But I will add to shep103s response, someone like kai leng doesnt invoke any emotion on my part regardless of what he takes away. I just see him as a tool.

And by taking away what Shepard loves, Jtav means that Kai Leng will eat Shepard's corn flakes.

I really liked TIM in ME2. Morally ambiguous, willing to sacrifice for the big picture, and a pretty damn good leader. But nope, BW HAD to nerf him in order to cater to the kids who'd been raised on one too many comic-book villians. A waste, really. Also, those who hate TIM usually hate Miranda and Jacob for the same dumb, mindless reason too.

Like TIM a ton, however I feel some of TIMs awesomeness came at the expense of shep just appearing dumb. Havent read the script but I know TIM is now magically against us hardcore in 3; hopefully its for good reason.

TIM was always evil, and now he is betraying Shepard that speaks what Tim really is.
And now he can pursue the only goal he always wanted Cerberus Domination.

The thing is, Deception takes great pains to to make Leng seem like the most dangerous man in the galaxy and only succedes in turning him into a joke who steals breakfast cereal and attempts to kill people with toothbrushes.

If thats what he always was I have no problem putting him down.  But in 2,.. idk. He was just really well done. Only thing I wouldnt want is to be put in a position where shep comes across as either stupid or near sighted for taking him down.

It comes from Deception when Kai Leng raids Anderson's cabinets for cereal when he is supposed to be this insane badass
