Havent read the book but I think he was trying to say something about his character, like setting a certain vibe or tone, but sounds like it fell flat. Like the writer couldnt convey what he wanted to.

. Doubt he'd ever be willing to become a squaddie though. He'd have to work with aliens.

Looking back on the control chip discussion, if Kai Leng was what Miranda had to go off of for what dealing with an N7 operative was like then I could see why she'd be hesitant to bring Shepard back without some sort of safeguard. As for dealing with Leng there's an easy solution:

Miranda: You're not honestly planning to face Leng at close range are you?

Shepard: That's the plan.

Miranda: You do understand that his career is defined by the fact that he killed a krogan and multiple turians with simple knife. I was lucky to escape with my life when he was sent after me, how do you plan to stop him?

Shepard: (hefts the Cain) By stacking the deck.

Miranda: And what pray tell will you do if the shot from your overcompensation machine misses?

Shepard: That's what the second shot's for.

Good luck firing the M-920 Cain aka the "Mini-Nuke" a close range.

Scratch that. The chances of surviving the massive destruction of the Cain at close range are slim to none.

The Cain was made for long range strikes.

If you are foolish to discharge the Cain at close range, you too will be incinerated as well as the enemy.

Well....tell that to Donovan Hock. I stayed by the door which led Kasumi and I out. He was far away. I used one shot from the Cain, and he was blown to hell with one shot.

All I needed to do was to wait for the Sheilds to go down completely.

And another thing, It's not good to accuse Miri of being Jealous. I bet Shepard meant to be that much of an ass, and said all of that truthfully. In other words, he intentionally become, NOT acted like, became a Douche Bag in that scene when calling Miri jealous and a mutt, because he wanted to be.

I doubt he lied just to woo Miri.
