Because Shepard is the PC and most people who play videogames don't have what could be called "refined" tastes.

Well my Shepard happens to be more of  Jazz,  Blues, some classic R& B though he has broader taste  in almost all muisc those are his favoriates.

Sure it counts.

Actually the class issue is something I wish they'd touched on more. Matt's taught himself which knife goes with which fork but there's always a sense in which he doesn't belong. Women like her have affairs with men like him. They don't get married.

You mean women like that, in general? Or just him and Miranda?

Him and Miranda. It's fine for stories, but this is reality. Someday, he'll wake and find her gone.

Really? What in the hell makes you say that?

Not to sound angry, but... Why? Just... Why?

What gives you the impression Miranda is just going to leave Shepard?

I'm saying how he thinks, He's terrified she'll leave or be torn from him. Boy never gets to keep what he loves.

... Oh. /overreaction

I don't think I've ever rationalized how my Shepard views the romance. I may as well do it now...

My Shepard has never really been close to anyone before. His father died before he was born, and his mother was in the military, so he never really saw her that often. He was isolated and quiet during his childhood, but he found that he was very good at the things he attempted. The only 2 people he'd ever considered friends (Prior to running the Normandy) died on Akuze during the Thresher Maw attack, and it shattered his former religious beliefs. In regards to hobbies and interests, Shepard is a bit of a nerd. He designed and built his own omni-tool, and if given the right parts, can fashion his own service mech. He enjoys listening to "older" hip-hop (I guess technically, today's stuff), but he doesn't tell people about it. Shepard has a violent side as well (probably stemming from his lack of real interaction with people). He's into firearms and knives, and, coupled with his military training, knows 100 or more ways to kill a person. He's definitely the type to hold grudges when people wrong him, but he won't linger on small, insignificant things. He knows how to be formal and polite, but when he's around people he's close too, he's typically more open, even though it's a bit difficult. After taking command of the Normandy in ME1, Shepard has found a few friend figures in a number of crew members. Namely, Garrus, Liara, Vega, Jacob, and Kasumi.

As he's never really been close to anyone before (Prior to running the Normandy), he questions whether or not he can be the right man for Miranda. He loves her dearly and would do anything for her, but he's willing to break it off if he can't protect her and provide for her. The one time in his life he really challenges his own natural skill and ability. While Shepard doesn't hold any noteworthy interests regarding classical music, he enjoys listening to the occasional symphony to relieve stress and to relax, and will go with Miranda to a concert, both because he's open to see if he'll enjoy it, and because he likes seeing her happy.

My Shepard doesn't really give a damn about social niceties or people saying he lacks background in the "humanities". He's come across music and literature he's enjoyed, and will seek out more for entertainment. But certainly not to impress anyone.
Apart from individuals he cares about he's rather detached from people, finding the depths of space far more fascinating. He does dip a little in philosophy but mostly metaphysics, stuff that applies to the whole universe. In terms of his personal opinion stopping the Reapers is more of a "not on my watch" thing though there are other factors compelling him.

Regarding Miranda and her interests I think this example of classical music might summarize how he would proceed: She is an classical enthusiast and would no doubt go to concerts and be able to talk at length about various symphonies, describing their parts and what have you. He on the other hand, might listen to some in his office while doing paperwork. He can be moved by a particular piece, can feel its power. But he won't dwell on it beyond that. So he would partake in this with her and would enjoy himself, but he wouldn't take it beyond those moments.

Evenin' folks. Glad to see Miranda back in action, if only for a brief moment.

Got a chance to play the demo as well; it was a good day.

Okay. It's Miranda's last day on the Normandy before Shep turns himself in. What happens?

I always imagined Matt getting drunk and proposing marriage. Undecided if she accepts.

Well, my Shepard kept the Base so I'm thinking something along these lines:

Bekenstein

Shepard: Anderson and a detatchment from the Fifth Fleet will be here by tomorrow. They're taking the Normandy with them.

Miranda: EDI's completed the purge of the ship's records, the Alliance won't be able to tell where we've been. All Cerberus personel are due for extraction by this afternoon, it will be like we were never here.

Shepard: Good, after what the crew's been through they don't deserve to be a part of a witch hunt.

Miranda: (puts down datapad) Neither do you.

Shepard: They need to know what's going on, what's to come in the days ahead. Cerberus might be ready, but the Alliance isn't they want an explanation and I'm going to give it to them. (sighs) Want to take in a show?

Miranda: What?

Shepard: I've had my fill of doom for the day. We're not on a mission, the London Sympony Orchestra is in town, and I'd like to do something together that doesn't involve getting shot at for a change.

Miranda: I didn't know you liked classical music.

Shepard: You'll find I'm full of surprises Miss Lawson.

Miranda: Indeed you are.

I thought it would be implemented the same way as LOTSB. Personally i think Bioware have been very duplicitous if it is the case that they have no squad status at all. Should have been upfront that temps would in no way resemble LOTSB Liara content.

Well, I can't really argue with you there, because, to the extent that they did say that (I can't personally confirm this), then it was very likely a lie, or tantamount to a lie in that it was deliberately misleading.

I don't think they lied.

But they were intentionally misleading, which is just as bad (If not worse than) as lying.

Sorry, I just didn't know what else to call it. I'm ore middlebrow than Miranda, but I'll volubtarily watch Shakespeare, We talk about introducing Miranda to things, but I'd like to see it work the other way.

That's what would happen in my Shepard's case. She'd go to the symphony and enjoy it, but more because it's a nice relaxed evening out together than because she necessarily "understands" the music. She just hasn't had the leisure to pick up something like that, so Miranda would have to explain it to her. (She'd have to explain it to me too).

Not only can I not see Miranda drinking, I imagine her being mystified that anyone voluntarily kills their brain cells that way - especially when they likely have fewer than she does to begin with. The same goes for putting processed McCrap in her body.

Yay, finally a blink of Miranda Lawson and the Cerberus logo is finally gone too! :)

Ironically that blink (+ a couple of the new ME3 videos) got me excited for ME3 again, despite the leak.

A couple of hours ago I was close chaning my order from the CE to the standard one.

Special thanks to Vertigo for posting her concept arts!

Actually I'm happy they went with the hexagonal suits and that design as I like those much better.

Likely referring to Prothy, as he was pegged as a natural biotic, a la asari. Not sure if that's still the case.

If you're implying that it may be a "Special someone", then... No. I doubt it, as much as I want it to be true.

Back from bawling my eyes out. Miri should have a power called the 'biotic b*tchslap' just so she can keep all the leering men at bay!

I finally resigned myself to the fact that Miri's gonna be sidelined in ME3 just to satisfy the rabid dogs, and the fact that there's no more Chuck.

Here's what I suspect happened:

Dev team: Let's give everyone new outfits!

*Several months later*

Dev #1: We're on crunch here and it's either cut the outfits or the new guns/side character X/N7 mission Y. What's it going to be.

Dev #2: Outfits. Most of them anyway.

Dev #1: Okay, so who actually needs a redesign.

Dev #2: Well, for Miranda we can just tweak the hair and remove the Cerberus emblem...

Agreed, that's very likely. And while I care about certain characters' outfits more than about new guns, I couldn't fault them for the decision. If it was either cut the new outfit or cut, say, a part of Miranda's mission(s), I'd cut the outfit as well.

Oh better yet imagine the characters reading their of fan threads...

Hilarity  enuse  as they react.

Oh Lord. Tali would commit suicide, Miranda would probably want to shoot some of us... I can't say I've been to them all but I think only Kasumi and Liara would be happy with theirs.

 Oh my...what a massacre. As for Tali - anyone remember the infamous Tali doll? I'd say Tali would recall she has a shotgut on seeing that.

It just occured to me that we have something new to post to Bioware if Miranda's story should turn out to be unsatisfactory
