Dang. Not that it matters. Kaidan is always in love with the nuke on Virmire. He stays with it to the very end on all my playthroughs. Can't have one of my former subordinates now outranking me.

Too much for your Shepard's ego?  Even though great mentors often have their disciples go further than themselves.

Anyway, do you think there's been anyone special teaching Miranda's the tricks and ways of her field? How do you think she feels about them?

You bet. :P

Though to be honest, all 4 would be okay with it if it was Ash since they were a tag-team with her in ME1.

Virmire is the hardest decision in the game for me, how many of you choose Ashley over Kaidan? It seems that more people save Kaidan, from what I hear that people think Ash is racist. But I disagree, shes just slightly xenophobic.

I don't mind Ash's views on aliens especially because she changes her opinion if you talk with her enough. It's not like she's irredeemable.
But I rescue kaidan because it makes sense.
1. He has a higher rank.
2. He is a valuable Human Biotic.
3. Whining men are less annoying than whining women. My ears have been augmented to find them annoying, damn you, evolution.

What is Ashley? Just an expendable soldier.

He wouldn't outrank you anyway, since Shepard is a Spectre, and has been for far longer than Kaidan.

Neither one of them seemed to be a Spectre at the start of ME3.

I already made my point that the VS gets promoted to Spectre udring the course of ME3. At the start, Ashley is just a Lt. Commander, and Kaidan is a Major.

Which means Kaidan outranks Shepard. As for Spectre status I think the word that better suits that would be seniority instead of "outrank". Unless Spectres have ranks that I wasn't aware of until now.

I always choose Ashley over Kaidan. The only reason I have a Kaidan save is because I mashed the X button through the Genesis comic, and accidentally saved him. IIRC, from a poll Bioware took, something like 80% of people who voted saved Ashley.

Oh well I suspect I just saw the viewpoints of the Ash haters I suppose..I save Ash every time as well

I guess many of the people see Garrus taking the role of the "brah" for male Sheps, so they wouldn't "need" Kaidan anyway. They may aswell be romancing Ashley.

I currently have Miri to romance, so I don't really need Ash that much. And I don't like Garrus that much, he forever lives in the shadow of Nihlus'/Saren's awesumness as a turian. With ME3, however I might have Vega as a "brah" as well, so I probably could try romancing Ashley instead, if Miri's romance isn't satisfying.

Every male hero needs a "brah", imo.

It would be kind of silly to think Miranda was just born with the knowledge she has. She received a world-class education, and probably received the same quality combat training and physical conditioning, in addition to hadnling machinery and some genetics research (She knew enough about Lazarus to prove Wilson wrong).

How does she feel about them? They're another tool for her to use, like she makes note of her other advanced abilities.

That is exactly why I thought more people saved Kaidan but apparently not, I save Ash because I like her more than Kaidan but I wish I could save both

No they don't they have similar roles but are not the same people.

They may as well be the same people, considering they fulfill the same roles and share dialogue.

The only differences between the 2 are backstory and mannerisms.

Why do you hate the VS?Image IPB

I don't "hate" any characters. I dislike Kaidan in ME1, but somewhat respect him in ME3. I adored Ashley in ME1, but I dislike her in ME3, due to dialogue I've read.

One quality for both of them that I dislike are their trust issues. It's understandable to not trust Shepard initially because of his past with Cerberus, but it drags on for a good majority of the game.

Actually is only for a part of the Game Ashley doesn't trust Shepard and then she begins to trust him.

It doesn't matter what rank Kaidan or Shepard are in comparison to one another. Shepard holds authority and seniority over Kaidan because he was A.) a Spectre for far longer, and B.) put in command of the ship.

Rank has no bearing on command of the Normandy. The Captain of the ship is the final authority on the ship, regardless of what rank he or anybody else on board holds. It's a naval tradition. So it doesn't matter if Kaidan is a Fleet Admiral, he still doesn't command the Normandy if Shepard is the ship's Captain.

Not really. The VS' general trust issues are present for a good 40% of the game, minimum.

On who outranks who, I'm sure we can agree they "outrank" each other in different respects.

I didn't see in the demo, them ever saying that Shepard was instantly in charge of Normandy. The way I saw it was that Kaidan had been using the new Normandy for his missions, while Shepard was under arrest and unless commanded otherwise or Kaidan hands over the charge, then Kaidan should be in charge.

Garrus was only my Shepard's "brah" in ME2. He came off as somewhat incompetent in ME1. In ME3, it'll be a tie between Vega, Prothy, and Garrus.

I'm still not going to leave Miranda for anyone in ME3. Her romance is pretty good imo, even if it's shorter than I'd like, due to her smaller role.

Because Kaidan in ME1 was a spineless wimp. Kaidan in ME3 is a hard ass.

Ashley has always been a hard ass.

That's the vibe I got from him. He always got unnecessarily defensive when I spoke to him.

Post-Virmire is when they began to meld into one another.

Clearly, you can't talk to Kaidan if he's dead on Virmire.

Ergo, they were much more different before Virmire.

Never thought I'd have to explain that.

That's the vibe I got from him. He always got unnecessarily defensive when I spoke to him.

In Mass Effect he was a good combatant, he had respect and knew how to stay calm. Before mass Effect he broke the Turian Biotic teacher's(who was a general if I recall corectly) neck when he got pissed, with a Biotic kick of all things, that's just plain badass. If that's spineless, I'm the pope.

Why am I getting images of a Mass Effect martial Arts movie now? I'd pay to watch that.
"Drunken Biotic Dragon Style!"
