No, it wouldn't have been redundant. How does she feel about the organization she served for twenty years becoming monsters? Right now, she looks like a sociopath because it doesn't even cross her mind. The EDI backstory is optional. Her presence seems to be an artifact of an earlier draft where the body had data locked away that EDI could only access after coming aboard.

I respectfully disagree, jtav. In my honest view, Miranda would want to cut all ties and move on as quickly as possible, and focus all attention on securing Oriana's continued safety from their father.
Which Miranda actually ended up doing, in a sense. Doing this would allow her to avoid The Illusive Man's attention; certainly Miranda would not want Cerberus coming after her while she tries to safeguard Oriana. It would compromise what she is trying to do. How she feels about Cerberus can be inferred, and while seeing/hearing her reaction in game would be nice, I think its unnecessary.

@redbadger14:
While I agree that Miranda would move on as fast as possible, the fact remains that without any insight on her reasons to leave Cerberus, her story remains incomplete. Also, her knowledge of Cerberus and TIM's base still exists, so there is every reason, after Oriana's safety is assured and their father is dead, that she would help Shepard at TIM's base.

We get that email at Liara's terminal that says she does something against Cerberus after Sanctuary. In context, it's easy to see that this was put in as damage control after our reaction to the November leak. I see its presence as a tacit acknowledgement that we were right when we complained about the lack of Cerberus-related Miranda content.

I don't think that really follows at all. For one thing, TIM sold Oriana out to her father. So, even if we leave aside the question of Miranda's direct involvement with Cerberus, the only way to *really* safeguard her sister, is to deal with Cerberus and TIM permanently.

That means she has every reason, personal and professional, to want to finish the job.

Agreed. Some details about the way the role is written suggest that there were cuts along the lines of what we are discussing anyway.

I agree with Ieldra and flemm.

Anyway, I watched a youtube video of the last talk with Miranda and noticed it was different from what most of us have seen.
Instead of Miranda ordering Shepard find her and him promising, Shepard tells her to be careful and she promises.
Had anyone else noticed this before? Does anyone know what makes this difference? Paragon/Renegade scores, conversations in ME3 or ME2?

So, it's the lack of romance.

My male Shep had that as well, I have no idea.

And I romanced Miri on my Shep, I always romance her.

There's been speculation that some dialogue might vary according to the source conversation in ME2 which has the "no promises" line in it as one option.

I don't think anyone's confirmed that, though.

I like it too. It just seems better to me in ME3  than in ME2. Just the slightest bit of difference

What? I'm guessing that is a joke?

Hm, very true, I see your point. Perhaps...maybe Miranda focused too much on Oriana and forgot that Cerberus could still be a threat? At least that's how I see it. And once Cerberus assisted her father with the experiments at Sanctuary, as well as the kidnapping of Oriana, I think Miranda took it upon herself to "finish the job."

That's the best I can think of right now. Trying to do Indoctrination theory speculation along with just plain trying to make sense of the horrendous endings we got with ME3 is frying my brain. Ugh =/

About the mail in Liara's terminal. Are we sure that it is after and not before Sanctuary?

She was prety injured after Sanctuary. idk if she could do that work after that.

You get the email one mission after Sanctuary, and she wasn't that hurt, judging by her tone. I'd estimate she'd be out a day or two.

Well, it would make more sense, chronologically, for some of those activities to start prior to Sanctuary, and maybe continue afterward. It doesn't really *fit* in the timeline that we have.

Also, note that in the last dialogue, Miranda says that the Alliance was surprised when she offerred to help, which wouldn't really make sense if they were aware that she had been "helping" previously (which the mail suggests they were).

It's a late addition that sort of covers up an obvious hole in what's actually included in the game.

lol, creating plotholes with the mails. Well, I'd to thinking about that in this way:

After the first talk with her she form a group with her "rogue" acquaintances from Cerberus. Dealing with random cerberus installations (and looking info about Oriana). Betwen the before the second talk she discovers that her father it's making business with Cerberus, and she left the group to focus on her personal issues. Then in the third talk she asks for Allianse resources and use them to make a cross research with the data she found and the Alliance intel (drawing the attention of certain Alliance officer). The mail might have been sent betwen the third talk and before Sanctuary.

And I have another doubt regarding Miranda. Was she the one who introduced Jacob to Brynn?

I'm asking because Brynn says "an old colleague introduced us." I don't know how many people Jacob knows from Cerberus, but I'm sure Miranda know more people than him inside the organization.

And the spanish version that line is translated as "una amiga suya nos presentó", meaning that whoever introduced them was a woman.

So, in my latest game, Miranda died in ME2. Do you want to know how Sanctuary plays out without her when I get there?

And Jacob says "an operative in Mumbai Cell."

Well, I was playing and that line has a big plot hole. "an operative in Mumbai Cell a year ago."

Wasn't him in the Lazarus Cell like a year ago?

Of course, jtav.

No necessarely a plot hole. If the timeline provided by the ME: Wiki is accurate, the Collectors were destroyed around January of 2185 and Arrival happened in 2186, over a year later.
Six months afterwards; thus, at least June/July of 2186; the Reapers attack the galaxy.

So, assuming everyone left the ship after the Suicide Mission; it's not like their presence was acknowledged in any DLC with the exception of Legion in Overlord; a year before ME3, Jacob would have either returned to Cerberus or been on his own if TIM wouldn't accept him back, giving him plenty of time to be introduced to Brynn.

I doubt it was Miranda because we know TIM did not handle her refusal to obey a direct order well so, she couldn't have been in the Mumbai Cell after ME2.

Agreed as to the overall scheme you're outlining there.

One of the odd things about the first dialogue is that Miranda refers vaguely to some contacts, then brings up a "personal matter." This is pretty similar to how she launches the loyalty mission in ME2, but in that context it makes sense because her main focus up to that point has been the mission.

So, really, the "contacts" should have been expanded to give Miranda a stronger purpose at that point, like forming her own guerilla fighting force, as is eventually referenced in the mail.

Ideally, you would actually cross paths with Miranda's team at some point after the Leng incident on the Citadel, and that's where dialogue #2 would take place. The third dialogue could work pretty much as is, but with more discussion related to Miranda's history with Cerberus.

And ideally, the squad would be the cavalry at some point during TIM's base. Maybe take out a wave of Leng's goons for you.

But the most irritating thing is that there should be more. Everything about her Sanctuary appearance screams that their should be more. If this were it, it would make more sense to have Leng take her out of the fight regardless, with the only difference being her survival.

Yeah, or she could just come along for that, then rejoin her squad for the battle around earth (maybe having beefed it up a bit with forces recruited at the base). And I agree that the Sanctuary appearance feels like a launchpad for something else.

It could just be a side-effect of the writing not being very tight, but it could also be that crunch time really hit around there, and they could only keep what was absolutely necessary to complete the game.

This is just petty, but would it have killed them to have Miranda and Jack physically present before the final battle? Last kiss, etc.

Rhetorical? Image IPB

In all seriousness, in Miranda's case anyway, it would only serve to underline the fact that, well, there's no reason for her not to be there, so she would be  there, and then she would have to go... do... something... errr... wait, what happened here? Image IPB

In Jack's case, it would be a bit easier (since she clearly has responsabilities elsewhere).

I don't really mind, though, that the last dialogue is long-distance, what I mind is that Miranda's story just sort of peeters out, and she has no clear purpose at that point.
