Because they are immaesurably knowledgeable and powerful. Imagine all they could teach us if we could just talk to them.
Look at how advanced the asari are because of the intervention of the protheans. And the protheans are nothing compared to the Reapers.
Just the very fact that someone like Habinger has existed since the dawn of time justifies having second toughts about destroying it.
I wouldn't mind destroying some synthetics to get that. I know it's not the right way of thinking but the geth will always be only machines for me and will probably rebel again sooner or later.
Even before achieving true sentience and individuality, the geth were far more respectful of the sovereignty of other species than the Council.
I'm far more willing to trust them than the turians, the asari or the salarians.
One tried to conquer us as soon as they saw us, the second hid prothean technology while demanding everyone else share theirs and finally...yagh, just...the yagh? Really? What do they figure will happen?
