I liked the ME3 love scene, and a lot of the dialogue it just seemed like there was going to be more. But then everything sort of stops, even the ME1 LI's other than Liara get the same treatment.
As for the whole Cronos/Earth situation I still have this mental image of the entire team, ME2 squaddies included fighting through the streets of London marching towards the Conduit. Looking back, the final push to take back Earth would have been better suited to the Suicide Mission concept than the assault on the Collector Base. You're going up against this god-like enemy who's destroyed countless civilizations and Shepard has to lead a team of the galaxy's best and brightest to stop them.
There's no reason why the SM game mechanic wasn't used in final fight or push against The Reapers:
The game can look at all the major categories of your war assets: The Council Races and any war asset categories over.....eh, 400 maybe? Then you can decide "ok, Asari's go here and Krogans go here and Turians go here....". If those choices are correct, a multiplier can be used on your total war asset number and that determines whether the Crucible fires properly. If those choices are wrong, the multiplier can be smaller or they could just say "we'll subtract a percentage from your total war assets" and that number will determine if the Crucible fires properly or not.
I know that whole setup is convoluted but I just feel like the end sequence and the system used to defeat/lose to the Reapers was bland and weak.
