Alright, so I decided to give a go at writing a letter for the second LIA book, however, since I haven't really attempted at writing any sort of fan-fiction before, I'd like it if you guys considered throwing a second eye at it, telling me what you think.
EDIT: The story takes place between the events of ME2 and ME3, after Miranda left Cerberus but before Oriana disappeared. I didn't want to have to put more emphasis on Ori considering the amount already in the game, and I thought the separation from cerberus would be something Miranda did pretty soon after the conclusion of ME2.
Here goes:
Miranda snapped out of her already shallow slumber as an alarm clock went off in an adjacent room. The first thing her eyes set upon as she opened them was the flickering monitor of the terminal in her room. She blinked a few times, ridding herself of the hazy feeling following a night of insufficient sleep. Standing up, she began to approach the monitor, at which point she was able to discern a notification of a new message waiting for her. At once, whatever remnants of fatigue immediately left her body, and she felt how a rock built up in her stomach, a feeling that had been completely alien to her until the last few weeks.
After opening the message, she quickly realized it wasn't from the person she had hoped it would be, and the anxious feeling quickly dissipated into cold disappointment. She skimmed through the message, sent by her Illium contact overseeing Oriana's family, confirmed that all was well, and sent a quick reply back confirming she had received it. She went back to bed and sat down, and allowed her mind to be flooded by thoughts. It had been two months since she last saw Shepard, and it was slowly eating away at her. She wasn't the same without him, and she didn't like it. She had, for the first time in her life since her escape from her father, been able to envision a future that had more to it than the next mission.
She never realized how close she had grown to this prospect until the one man that was able to make it become reality was snapped away from her, and in his absence, she realized how fragile it really was. She feared few things more than to go back to what things used to be, not to mention that she probably couldn't, considering her recent all but seamless abandonment of her old employer. No, she needed Shepard, the one man that had been able to appreciate her for what she really was, the one man that had finally been able to guide her towards acceptance of her genetic gifts, the one man that she knew would fall behind for her, regardless of what happened.
To me, Miranda was one of the characters in the ME franchise that went through the largest change throughout a single game, and even though she started off as a cold character, by the end of the game we all saw that there was more to her than she wanted us to know. This is why she appealed to me personally, and why I chose to romance her throughout the second and third game. The treatment she, and most of the other ME2 romances received in the third game was frustrating to me, and I would very much welcome more content to be released.
Sincerely,
Pleex
