I'm sure everyone has heard this question before, but is anyone here upset or was previously upset finding out Miranda cannot have children?
Personally I am upset by this, but Miranda is still the best. Still I've always waned my Shepard to be a father...
It only bothers me insofar as it's:
1) an unnecessary and probably misguided retcon, and...
2) possibly a narrow-minded attempt to show that genetic engineering is inherently bad/evil.
#2 is especially unfortunate, if it is the case, because Miranda should be a character who allows for an intelligent exploration of the pros and cons of genetic engineering. Her father represents some of the moral difficulties involved, and her insecurities about her origins should allow for some nuanced discussion of what it means to be human/what part of ourselves we can call our own, etc. (There's some good writing that touches on that subject in ME2.) But then you also have the benefits of science reflected in Miranda herself, what she's capable of, and so on.
I say it's "probably misguided" because I think the infertility could actually be turned into a good thing if it helped Miranda embrace her origins and use her own scientific expertise to overcome her physical limitations. That would be good character development. That didn't happen in ME3, but I can't rule out that something like that may have been considered.
