Yeah, you're right. Looking back over it, he is simply the first in line to die, and he contributes very little to the "Hold the Line" score.

What people aren't realizing is it's not just that Mordin's number is so low, they're probably taking guys like Grunt and Garrus with them to the final Boss AND none of the "non-heavies" (Jacob, Miranda, Thane, Legion, Samara) can have a HTL score of 3 even if loyal......

Yea, I got it figured out, the one scenario where a fully loyal team with all ship upgrades and no deaths pre-HTL and sending back a non-Mordin squishy (presumably the best scenario)? If you take 2 out of Garrus, Zaeed, Grunt. The math ends up being a Hold the Line score of 1.88, which is just low enough for Mordin to die because he's first on the list....

My first playthrough, Mordin died because I took Grunt and Legion with me, and sent Jacob back. I was really bummed about that, so now I send him back with the crew every time.

You must have had a non-loyal squadmate somewhere, cuz the math works out that your average would be 2, so a loyal Mordin would live...unless you're dividing by the total number of teammates and not the number of teammates left.....:shrug: who knows....

It's not really a decision, there are just some characters who are dead by default in non-imported games. Wrex, Grunt, Jack, Thane and Legion, to name a few.

Miranda is alive in non-imports, but seemingly cannot survive. (Except some people have said that she has and does, just not enough for me to be confident it is true. Of course, most people around here play imported games.)
 
Anyway, if we are to include "imported game" as a survival condition for Miranda, it seems fair to note that many other characters are not even alive unless you import.

The way NG+ is structured, I don't think I'll ever play non-import smh......I know EA is all about $$$$$ but how can their higher-ups not see that their values hurt the values that make Bioware so good at what they usually do? They're business stratergy literally is NOT compatible with story-driven adventure/shooters......these statements we're making about ME-3, "this content isn't available if you don't import", we shouldn't be making those statements smh......
