For better or worse, the first two chapters are up. Reviews appreciated.

The Modern Prometheus
Summary: All Miranda needed was a chance to put her skills to use after Shepard and Cerberus betrayed her. Thane thought the best he could hope for was atonement before the inevitable. The new Shadow Broker may be able to offer both more than they ever dreamed.

Nice. I had almost forgotten how much I like Miranda in this story. Not that that's a surprise, I like Miranda in most of your stories.

Two small things though: three drell in a public place on the Citadel, I gather that's extremely unusual. If you need a reason for something unpleasant to happen, there you have it, though I guess Liara will be excellent at obfuscating their tracks. Also, Miranda blushing at Oriana's comment seems not like her. She'd be used to much more than that.

You mean Miranda? You don't think that's the way she'd react to some ultra-Paragon Shepard who threw her off the ship and said he'd kill her in spite of her supporting him against TIM? I find her reaction totally appropriate, and it could be even stronger were this not Miranda, who's not exactly prone to emotional outbursts.

Well, honestly I think the notion that anyone can be 'Paragon' or 'Renegade' to the extreme that you seem to imply all sorts of one-dimensional and thus a bad idea to right in the first place.

What seems strange to me is if Miranda resigns from Cerberus, why on Earth would any Shephard threaten to kill her? I like the idea that they're somewhat antagonistic at some stage but yeah I'd have to agree that it comes off as mean spirited more than anything else and I'm not sure I buy that from Miranda. I'd think she'd be far more likely to 'prove' why someone's actions or thoughts are pathetic, but she wouldn't necessarily just say it and accept the matter closed.

And yes, I was talking about alien pairings as being what I'd consider to be OOC to the point of just being a new character altogether, I thought I actually typed that all up but I guess not.

Hmm...I don't know. People can get understandably irrational about things like killswitches in their heads. And I can imagine a very Paragon Shepard might feel tainted by having been brought back to life by Cerberus, of all things. He may have not appreciated having been brought back in the first place, even. Miranda's presence might remind him of all that.
It's still extreme, but then, being extreme isn't in any way against how Shepard is shown in the games. Someone who calls Mordin a war criminal for his work on the genophage certainly isn't beyond being uncompromisingly hostile to Miranda.

Apart from that, I have absolutely no problem reading about a Shepard I can't identify with.

Maybe, but I am pretty sure she's focusing on her Chuck things. I'd prefer it that way anyway. It's the final season of her show anyhow. Give those fans all the love they deserve. ME3 isn't that close to being released yet anyway.

Ashley is probably the LI I prefer the most in the ME series, though I'm probably going to import my Miri playthrough first. I'm curious, anybody else want to experience the ME3 "indoctrinated" Cerberus plot and see her reaction?

I really would like if in ME3 Miranda backstabs Shepard in the end, showing her loyalty to Cerberus and TIM...that would be a nice touch. The desperate fight against your love...

You mean her reaction to Cerberus being indoctrinated? Since I don't like "Cerberus is indoctrinated" as their reason to work with the Reapers, no.

Otherwise, there are so many unknowns and so many possible developments about Miranda in ME3 that I find it hard to imagine her reacting to any possible scenario. For instance, if Cerberus is working with the Reapers, does she know about it when we meet her again? Is it the whole of Cerberus or only a part, and if the latter, with which faction is Miranda allied at the start? If TIM is behind it, has he convinced her that his is the right course after all? If TIM is not, has Miranda been involved in work against the other faction?

I can see only one thing as a constant: if Miranda is loyal to Shepard in ME2, I cannot imagine her hunting Shepard down for Cerberus. If she resigned, Miranda and Shepard both have broken their ties with Cerberus, so the only way she could end up working for them again is by blackmail. Should that happen, she'll switch sides again as soon she meets Shepard. If she didn't resign, Shepard is still uneasily allied with Cerberus and Miranda will take a lot of convincing to work against what she'd perceive as one of their own.

So I think she'll be on Shepard's side with regard to fighting the Reapers right from the start. About anything else, it's anyone's guess. Too many variables.

You'll find no one one here who would like such an end forced upon the player. Also, your scenario is based on assumptions that aren't always true. It's like this:

(1) If the whole of Cerberus is working with the Reapers, Miranda will be at Shepard's side fighting them. I can't imagine her thinking working with the Reapers is a good idea.
(2) If only a faction of Cerberus is allied with the Reapers, then Shepard could still be allied with the other faction and Miranda can too.

In both cases, there will be no reason for a fight between them.

Sorry what? I know this is Miri's thread but I have to ask... what does a gay look like? or however anyone can form such question anyway.

The way I see him is a typical marine on steroids, Jacob's replacement, nothing more nothing less, judging people based on how they look and setting that judgment in stone is SUPERSHALLOW.

Thanks kinda surprised how much more I like Miri more than Tali n thank god for the AA pack that gives her armor. Oh n Dave, I love your rant n synopsis of the difference between a paragon n renegade She though I still do mostly renegade playthroughs or renegon if you will.

Edit: I play on the PS3 n just got ME 2 recently so eventhough I have seen let's plays I am just seeing for myself now how awesome Miri is n her romance is great too!

What are the chances she might be doing some VA work while she's there...?

The whole thing with Cerberus and TIM is the division of teams into independent cells - although Miranda would be one of TIMs top lieutenants, it is safe to assume that she is as kept in the dark about things that don't concern her as everyone else, and one of the things that would have allowed her to rise through the ranks, is not just her ability to get thongs done, but her ability to not ask questions that don't concern her.

Look to the fact that whilst Miranda may have been able to get the files about Jack's past entanglements with Cerberus, there are no indicators that she knew about this until Jack herself brought it up, and no prior knowledge of Dr Chandana and the derelict reaper either. This leads me to think that Miranda will indeed be very surprised by what has happened to Cerberus whilst being away on the Normandy with Shepard (irrespective of resignation or otherwise) and I believe it would shake her faith in TIM and Cerberus in general to it's very core.

Like the shadow Broker, TIM's power and influence comes not just from what he knows, but from how many people he can keep from knowing what he knows.

Four sessions? Would someone put that in context for me? About how much dialogue does that work out to?
