Well, my expectations were not quite as optimistic, but I considered it possible just as you did. Plain fact: not one of the non-team ME2 LIs got significant writing attention, a good story or any kind of character exploration and development. We were wrong.jtav wrote...
I thought that, if Miranda wasn't a squad member, they would take extra care to make her appearance awesome and she would have more impact on the game world and get to show off her operative side more.
Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

It's not really worth dwelling on. What we can do now is focus on encouraging improvements via future content.
I do think we might get some.

Perhaps with a different writer (like Weekes or John Dombrow) she would have

Maybe. It's odd that Weekes ended up writing Jack, whom he is on record as originally despising, and not Miranda.
I think the comparison is fairly damning, actually, when you look at what he did with Jack in much less content.
It's astonishing that there is a whole level in the game (on the crit path, no less!) devoted to Miranda, and yet it amounts to pretty much nothing. This despite the fact that it involves the Reapers, Cerberus, Miranda's father, is a death camp, and is the source of TIM's indoctrination troops, etc.
It's not like there was a lack of material to work with...

Yep. I have to take my statement above back. Jack did get significant character development, and in a very satisfying way, even it was very implausible.flemm wrote...

and John did a good job with what he wrote (Genophage arc including it's characters with help from Weekes)
Imagine Sanctuary written by him and Weekes + some tweaks to Cronos station and you can see why I'd think they would have done a better job

Mine would be Miranda (of course), Wrex, Grunt, Garrus, Javik, Legion, and I guess Zaeed (I never actually had him as a squaddie, but he's always looked pretty cool on Youtube).

I also did want to add EDI but i rather her be like liara. And only leave the ship for TIM base that way she can stay on the ship with joker

I thoughts. aBout outing in liara for the same reason jtab did. But then I realized she could be a nonsquad squadie. She's on the ship bit only leaves for her mission kinda like mordin wrex and all them.

Well EDI wouldn't be necessary for Cronos if Miranda was a squaddie.

I think EDI is necessary for thematic reasons given the ending. I'd just like Miranda there is the other side of the argument, if you will.
I can personally see Miranda and EDI as pretty agreeable in terms of Cerberus. I'm sure Miranda would want to take Cerberus down, just like EDI. Except I believe Miranda's presence on Cronos would be superior to EDI's.

This is actually what I think is the worst part about ME3: They established a completely new plot from scratch with their Synthetics-vs-Organics crap.jtav wrote...

Drew hinted Dark Energy throughout ME1 and 2 several times, and you would have truly had this "Of course! It all makes sense now!" moment in the ending... even with the StarChild.
Now EDI had to take over the Cerberus part, only to consolidate the new plot. It's sad, really.
