Hiding diminishes the risks that would come to her should she be betrayed by anyone.
Let's say Shepard left Cerberus but Miranda didn't. Her knows her indentity, it won't be hard to tell who her father is. Shepard can simply approach him with a proposal of an alliance between the Lawson Industries and the Alliance to destroy Cerberus.
Hell, the Shadow Broker could have done this rather tan have Wilson sabotage some mechs.

And, unlike Miranda, TIM doesn't have an indentity. He rarely leaves Cronos whose location is unkwnown.

A traitor wouldn't just be betraying her, they'd be betraying Cerberus. And Cerberus as we've seen can handle traitors well enough.
I do not agree that any link can be established between her and Lawson based on name alone or indeed that Shepard would spend time persuing the corporate sector if he needed Cerberus destroyed.  We're retreading old ground here, both with this name business and with TIM's physical description. If we didn't agree then, we won't agree now.

And do you think that if it was so easy to just take over the Lawson Industries, TIM wouldn't have given Miranda whatever support she needed to do it a long time ago?

Trying to guess TIM's motivations is a useless excercise. Perhaps he would judge Henry a more valuable asset overall or judge that Miranda is more valuable to him where she is. She would need help taking over but a simple assassination (or even live capture with the intent to imprison) she could manage. Unless of course Lawson wasn't just a useless meat sack.... which is what I argue. It wasn't TIM or angst keeping Miranda from removing her father from the picture. He was just too much for her.

One thing I wish they kept from the leak was how Oriana could take over Sanctuary. She turns it into an actual safe haven for refugees rather than the death camp Cerberus turned it into. It makes her a much stronger character rather than maintaining her status as plot device.

As for not dealing with her father earlier I'm picturing a situation similar to that between Fenris and Magister Denarius in DA2. Henry Lawson is stated to be the richest man in the galaxy and he's one of the few people who strikes fear into Miranda, pragmatisim aside she's more willing to hide rather than face the man. ME3 puts her in the position where to quote Fenris "One must stop running, and turn to face the tiger."

When we finally meet Mr. Lawson he's got his back against the wall. The galaxy is coming apart around him, his only way out (TIM) has left him for dead, and all he has left is her two daughters who'd much rather be rid of him. Instead of making his mark on history he is slain in ignominy.

I had actually forgotten all about this piece until just now. Why did they remove this?

Because they needed the resources for other characters (more time with the blue pet).

Which would be fine... except there is nothing scary about the pathetic coward we see in Sanctuary. He's no caged tiger. He's literally a ****.

It isn't even like they needed to depict Oriana at Sanctuary. Something as small as an email would have sufficed.

Yeah, that's awesome Image IPB

Too bad from a gaming perspective it would throw off the pacing... meaning it would work if she showed that she was a fighter in a previous scene (like in ME2).  And part of me thinks she'd look more like one in her loyalty outfit

You saw no coward on Sanctuary. You saw someone who had his back against the wall and who did whatever it took to save what was most precious to him, himself. You can argue he was not intimidating in which case I will agree with you. But nothing showed him as a coward either.
And Sanctuary should be scary since it's, basically, a death camp. But Bioware dropped the ball on that one.

Exactly, Miranda's been afraid of him for so most of her life but when his back is against the wall he's a pathetic coward who's willing to hide behind a teenage girl to save his life. Miranda has nothing left to fear from him and she's able to put an end to him.

Just my own personal opinion, but even in Sanctuary, I never really found Henry to be that much of a threat.

We're told that he has virtually unlimited wealth and basically as many resources as Cerberus, but what exactly has he done, outside creating Miranda and Oriana? He has all that money, all that tech, all that power... and he does nothing with it. Only in ME3 with Sanctuary do we see him stepping up, even though we don't actually know what he's doing for 80% of the game.

Out of Oriana's 19 years in the galaxy, he makes 2 attempts to get her back, despite his authority.

No. The two are incompatible. Miranda cannot be scared of the weakling we see at Sanctuary. Not now, not ever.  ME3 Lawson is an utter failure.

@bold- Which Lawson? They all share surnames.

To be fair, Cricket's statement is a pretty accurate statement about all three Lawsons in ME3.

But I think he meant Henry Lawson. He was supposed to be this scary menace hanging over Miranda's life, but he comes across as a two-bit villain she should've squashed like a bug.

I'm not really expecting much out of the EC, the admission that the endings made no sense is good and the fact that we're getting clarification is better than nothing. However, if it were up to me I'd scap what we have and get something that was done by the writing team and clearly peer-reviewed by the writing team.

Keeping the same endings because of  the writing team's "artistic integrity" seems a little shaky to me. The quality of what's in the rest of the game compared to the ending really gives me the impression that either Walters or Hudson had the idea, wrote it down and submitted it to animation without review by the other writers. But that's just me.

They admitted that the endings made no sense? Where?

Oriana was never fleshed out enough for her to be a failure. She was always a contrivance, and in that respect, she succeeds without a hitch. I blame Miranda's faults in ME3 on her having a new writer. Henry was hyped up to being this sort of "boogeyman in a business suit", but he's just another generic villain.

You can just photoshop Kaidan's head onto Shepard's body. If that's actually Kaidan's character model wearing Shepard's armor, then I have no idea.

Some characters have been imported into Garry's Mod as ragdolls. You can also use the Unreal Model Viewer to display the character models or even use the free Unreal Development Kit to create images.

It's a mod replacing Shepard's head with Kaidan's. There's also a picture floating around of the cuddling on the bed using the same mod.

I think I can reconcile some of the Henry Lawson stuff in my head.
On a related topic...Miranda seems to imply that Reapers 'showed up' at Sanctuary. Not that this is an isolated case (Ardat-Yakshi Monastery, for example), but the opening suggests the ground troops are 'shot' from the Reapers rather than just appear on their own.
Am I missing something, or overthinking this? :P

Never let it be said that I don't do romantic schlock.

Kaidan leaned against the wall of the makeshift comm room, trying to be as unobtrusive as possible while Shepard said his goodbyes. The holographic light of the QEC did nothing to hide the fact that Miranda Lawson was stunningly gorgeous. Kaidan had never understood what Shepard saw in her. Shepard had never lacked for beautiful women. Kaidan had only dim memories of Horizon, but he remembered Miranda making some snide comment or other about the Alliance and his ability to see what was right in front of them. She was Cerberus, and if half the things in her dossier were true, any man with a functioning brain would want to be within a light-year of her without body armor.

But at last, he thought he understood. There was nothing cold or cruel in her eyes now. She smiled, and Kaidan felt his breath catch. It was a sad smile, beautiful in the way winters were beautiful. She looked like one of those princesses in the books Kaidan used to read who would send the knight she secretly loved on a quest to kill the dragon. Men would have died for that smile.

"I just wish I could be there. With you."

"Me too.”

Miranda nibbled her bottom lip, and Kaidan looked at the floor. Seeing Miranda vulnerable was worse than seeing her naked. "I wanted to say goodbye." Shepard opened his mouth to speak, but Miranda held up a hand. "Please. If we both come back from this at all, everything will be different."

Shepard's voice was bright with a swaggering confidence. "Sure it will. But on our terms. Not the Reapers’. Not the Illusive Man’s. We won't have to run anymore. I can finally take you out on an actual date."

"Listening to you, I can almost believe it." She gave a strangled laugh and Kaidan chanced a glance upward. Miranda leaned in close, almost but not quite touching Shepard. "Then finish this, and find me."

His fingers hovered over her cheek, causing the image to wobble. "I will." He swallowed and closed his eyes. "I promise."

Miranda's image flickered and was gone. Shepard stepped back. His shoulders were hunched, and he didn't look anything like the man who had waded into an army of husks. "Please," he whispered, his voice raw, "let me keep that promise." He finally seemed to notice Kaidan. "You've discovered my weak spot: beautiful brunettes with Australian accents. Don't tell anyone."

"I think I figured it out the first time you went halfway across the galaxy because he got an e-mail from her." Kaidan smiled. "But your secret’s safe with me."

"Good." Shepard removed a small gold ring from his pocket. The diamond was as small as you click it and still be called a diamond, but it caught the harsh light of the room. "Kept promising myself I was going to give her this when the war was over. But now…" Shepard looked up at Kaidan and he seemed so utterly, completely broken that Kaidan didn't know what to make of it. "Remember when you said that you owed me after Virmire? I'm calling in my marker."

Kaidan tensed. He did remember that: a statement carelessly tossed out in a rush of grief and guilt. It was the sort of thing you said all the time if you were in the service long enough. But the debt didn't go away just because it had been treated casually. He owed Shepard his life a thousand times over. Besides, the last request of a dying man was sacred. And they were all dying men. "What do you need?"

"If you make it back and I don't…" He cleared his throat. "Could you keep an eye on Miranda for me? Make sure the Alliance doesn't give her a hard time and that she eats between making all these wonderful discoveries to help humanity? "

Kaidan rubbed the back of his neck. "Me? Keep an eye on Miranda?" He had a sudden image of Henry Lawson flying backwards through the glass. "You do know she hates me, right?"

"She doesn't know you well enough to hate you. Please, Kaidan. You're the closest thing to family I've got."

"Okay. Not sure exactly what you want me to do, but okay."

It was the last time they had ever spoken. And Kaidan had spent the next year scrounging for food and shelter for the rest of the crew and hoping against hope that Shepard had made it. Miranda Lawson had been any closer to his thoughts than Sol was to Pluto. But now he had a promise to keep—and no idea how he was going to keep it or even find Miranda in the first place.

I felt awful just writing that.

@jtav trying to remember are you one of the people who said a maiden Miranda relationship is cool with them?
Also I liked that piece alot. The extra dialog you threw in really helped the scene. And the ring. Nice touch.
