(Not to sound like I'm on a high horse or anything) If you wanted, I could pitch in some dialogue ideas. Hell, I could help write the comic if you guys wanted me.

I agree with Ventus.

The art is great, but you need someone to take care of your writing a bit.

yep, I'm no writer, but its one thing which really hold up to me, I just love the way the writers actually grip your feeling's into what they want to you to feel.

As for the Trial version, I clearly understand what you and ventus meant, but doing both art and dialogue was quite a headic for me to pull off at the same time, Even the Art-work I did, for the prologue was quite cartoonish, but now I'm looking forward to give a more professional feel.

Would anybody be interested in me doing an Action Mode game to report back how Miranda comes off? Trying to kill time before EC.

I would, but that would require creating someone from scratch for ME3 right?

Also, lately I'm starting to get a bit burned out on ME3. May need to take a break for a while after I finish my Sentinel run.

Can I just say for sec how much I like Shep as a boyfriend in ME3? It's obvious he adores her. "I'll always want you in my life" makes me swoon. He's in awe over Lazarus. And they have this wonderful teasing dynamic. It's not too sappy, but you know these people are a solid unit.

Here, Ali. I had a quick go at tidying up your first page. Not sure how flexible you are with the speech bubbles (I tried to keep to the exisiting limitations) and adding in a caption box for the first panel though.

I fiddled with some of the dialogue as I'm not sure of the significance to some of the statements beyond exposition (as in, why Faust asks what the fuss is when he obviously knows, and if the Illium bit is just to establish where they are).

Obviously, there is no obligation to use it. Just figured I'd give it a go since it's in my area of expertise.

The Secrets of the Mysterious Relic

PANEL 1
CAPTION: Illium. One month after stopping the Collectors.

Miranda: You're late, Faust. Don't you understand how important this is?
Faust: I do, Miranda, really.

PANEL 2
Miranda: Did you bring it?
Faust: Of course (Second bubble) ...Something's bothering you. It's Shepard, isn't it?
Miranda: It's...difficult. I don't...I've never felt this way before. I wish I could be close to him but that's just not feasible, right now. It's too big a risk. He'd understand.

PANEL 3
Miranda: Plus, without Shepard or Cerberus, I have no one else to turn to.
Faust: What about his team? Your team. You've done the impossible once before.
Miranda: Fine, Faust, spread the word. Let's hope they can trust me without Shepard...

PANEL 4
Faust: If this is as serious as it sounds, I can't see them refusing. You all put aside your differences to stop the Collectors. Why not now? With Reapers still a major threat, the Voyagers must be stopped. At all costs. I'm in, regardless of the debt I owe.

PANEL 5
Miranda: Thank you, Faust.
Faust: Don't mention it. It'll be like old times. I'll even make sure Jacob joins us.
Miranda: Good. The more people, the better. We'll need a ship...
Faust: Already on it. I'd better be off. Hell of a job to prepare for...

PANEL 6
Miranda: Shepard, I...there's no other way to say it: I love you. I don't know if you feel the same...only hope keeps me strong. This is something I have to do, but I'll make sure I get to see you again. I promise.

Dark times are on the galaxy, as the Reapers fast approach our doorstep. At this time, Miranda Lawson has found the key to understanding the Reapers and their origins. For that she needs a team, trustworthy people to
aid in a quest that may unlock the secrets to the Reapers' existence as well as those of their true creators: the galaxy's first civilisation.

Just some clarification on the comic project: the pages and dialogue will be heavily modified from what has previously been shown. As has been mentioned, Ares and myself are the writing team with Ali, Rachel and orenjikitty (a friend of mine, she's not on here as much) doing the art.

On that note, I feel it only fair to provide a general update for where the comic is relative to the fanbook. Out of the three part trilogy we've been mostly working on part 1, the pre-ME3 original story based on Ali's mysterious relic concept. Act 1 of that story has been written and the art team is preparing to have at it. I'm currently writing act 2. However given where we are and the rate of progression it is highly doubtful we'll be able to have the completed part ready for the fanbook deadline. My thoughts are to just include what we have as a teaser piece and "release" the rest down the road. Hopefully it will generate enough excitement. Obviously this is dependent on a) finishing act 1 completely by the 30th and B) the rest of the team's approval of this plan.

So, in a fit of utter insanity, I typed this up for the fanbook:

In some ways, I’m an atypical Miranda fan. I’m a straight female who romances her only grudgingly. So why have I spent two years thinking and writing about her? What makes her different from your average oversexualized femme fatale? Many reasons, but I think the most important is that she has a blazing sense of purpose in Mass Effect 2. When questioned, she says she believes in the advancement and preservation of humanity, that humanity must have its counterpoint to the asari commandos and salarian STG. She, by her own admission, is with Cerberus because they’ll let her do the impossible. Yes, Miranda loves her sister, but she also has a vision and concern for humanity as a whole. Miranda is a bridge between two worldviews. She rejects both the faux-idealistic brutality of the Illusive Man and the complacency of the Council. She conquers death and she does it without committing atrocities. For me, she was a sign that we had a chance to overturn a corrupt status quo without selling our souls. I love characters with genuine ideals and who are cerebral and brilliant. Miranda is beautiful but it was her mind that made her alluring.

I think that's cool and very feasible. For something like the comic, we can play it by ear a bit, since we are all in contact here.

But I like the idea of including Act 1, for example, as a "teaser."

I've noticed that when doing my playthroughs with Thomas Shepard, for some reason when talking to Matriarch Aethyta, she talks to him like he's in a relationship with Liara. The only other time she does that is when I'm doing my Liaramance run. If I take the Paragon interrupt, then the Renegade one, Thomas will talk back to Aethyta like Liara is his LI, as opposed to Miranda. I can only avoid that by not taking the Paragon interrupt. Kind of irritating.

This is why I really want there to be DLC where Shepard and his/her LI get a mission together. Preferably with squad banter.

Yea i remember that part. I was like WUT? really? It was kinda annoying, again liara shoved down my throat. It's a shame really. I kinda like liara but this favouritism is so irritating its impossible to like the character. Thats what i love with ME2, all the romances are equale, no jealousy.

Thing is, that on my playthroughs with Daniel (Ashleymancer) and Sarah (no LI prior to Sam), that never happened.

Pretty much Liara in ME3 is her writer doing this:

Image IPB

I liked Liara in ME1, then ME2 and 3 just seems like they took her character and started making changes to make her relevant to the plot. Her whole quest to get Shepard's body back in Redemption, and her becoming the Shadow Broker seemed more like what Mac Walters wanted to do with the character more than anything else.

That happened to me too in my first playthrough. Aethyta told me "like a boyfriend who used to work for cerberus" and though I like Liara it pissed me off a little bit because I wasn't in a relationship with her. Then I imported that save and when I went talking to Aethyta she said the same line, but instead of boyfriend she said commander.

I don't think it was intentional, it was probably a bug, like the one if you romanced Liara and then reaffirmed the relationship in LotSB when you reunite with her in her quarters in ME3 she didn't acknowledge the events of the DLC.

I've reached Zen about Liara. Her presentation isn't her fault anymore than Miranda is to blame for her presentation. I still like her ME2 incarnation. So I'm slowly getting over my resentment.

You've probably all guessed it, but I'm assuming the Aethyta conversation has something to do with when you 'lock-in' the relationship with Miranda properly (as in, that third meeting, since you can still go and cheat after the first one) combined with some corner-cutting in terms of what lines are used (though, admittedly, I'm not sure how it works for other relationships). In the same way that Tali's drunken rant still has a distinct tone to it as if Miranda had died, just with a few lines changed here and there.

In conclusion, I can't get too upset with it. But it is a bit annoying...

Yes, my male shep romanced both Liara and Ashley in ME1 until he had to choose Ashley at the confrontation stage.  Shepard such a flirt and... "Why can't I have you both?" hahaha.  Anyways, in M2 he romanced Miranda.  ME3, he told Ashley, "Don't know"  but he was through with her and her actions on Horizon helped wanting to dump her... :(  So, in ME3, Liara's dad did say boyfriend... I was like what!  *facepalm*  He was not in a romance with Liara but Miranda... shepard might have been nice to Liara and talk to her... well because they are friends.   Kind of felt Liara was romance ninja Shepard with Miranda.   But after locking in the apartment with Miranda.  Oddly enough it seemed he could still flirt with the woman and corez was begin to chummy for my tastes.  Ashley totally ignored Shepard.

It's interesting the differences when I only imported miranda romance.  How certain dialogue changed.  I think I rushed the conversation with Liara's dad because her dad never mentioned boyfriend. It might have been commander... It must either be how you talk to people and take time to develop points or something... I noticed Shepard never said the line to liara... "I never get to surprise you with anything."   I was like huh...  After the apartment with Miranda. I stopped playing. :(

Jtav what you wrote was perfect.  I agree and feel the same way. :o
