Fly-by-drop of a very sexy Miranda:

I wonder why she doesn't look like her CGI version in game? Very sexy. =)

The sad thing is that it was delayed. Not by too much, but it was delayed.

What you mean from Christmas? No, three months is insignificant, given the problems this game has. And as soon as the leak hit in November, moving it by up to a year or more should've been a no brainer.

Back then I refused to read the leak and thus could only go on people's widly varying opinions. But if your game's leaked you pull back for at least 6-9 months and drastically rework it. Valve did it for HL2 and it was excellent. Then again, Valve isn't run by a bunch of greedy corporate morons.

Sorry, I've grown an intense dislike for Ashley in ME3, both due to her new look and that "Real Person" line.

Never said I agreed with the amount of time they "delayed" it. I agree, they should have had more time, as with serveral others of their games (I blame EA), however thats what we got. Not every game can be perfect out of the box.

Ahh that's my girl. Pity Shep can't express those kind of thoughts in ME3.

Tbh, reading the Miranda text in the game tends to make me angry. Because often it feels more *right* than the main dialogues.

Um, I just loaded up two of my FSheps and I have the "romance" email. Sure it's not some other variable?

Loyalty status? Completion of all ME2 convos with her?

Must be lack of Loyalty then. That was a non imported playthrough.

Well, I believe I got the less friendly one when I tried a non-import game. So, might be loyalty.

Edit: Image IPB'd by JB.

Both texts are very Miranda-y. Truthfully, Jay did manage her voice quite well. It's not so much that she's OOC as much as large swaths of the character are missing.

I'm not sure if I agree or disagree with that overall. Ignoring swaths of the character makes it hard to evaluate.

Sometimes the playful tone is about right. And there are some lines that echo back to ME2 in a good way. I do like most of the romance lines.

There's one area where I certainly disagree: Miranda is a character who *thinks* and has ideas (as distinct from a character who is smart and skilled). Miranda is smart and skilled, but she also has ideas and a point of view. A very large amount of her dialogue and banter in ME2 deals with fairly challenging ideas. Stuff you have to think about.

Not all writers can handle that. That's Weekes' voice, apparently, and it's a big loss. Miranda is still smart, skilled, and so on. Which is good. But smart + beautiful is a relatively common combination of desirable traits in female characters (Liara, for example). One of the things that sets Miranda apart, not only in the ME universe, but in general, is that she presents/represents challenging ideas.

It's easy to see (from this thread even, or from all the letters and stuff that have been written recently), that this is a much bigger part of why people connect to the character than they realized.

And I think Miranda is the only example of the 'unresolved sexual tension' trope (with Jack only veering sort of close) as far as romances are concerned. That's way more interesting than "Let's be more than friends, maybe?"

Also, I implied this with my earlier post, but I'm not sure Jay W. wrote the Miranda text Image IPB

The text can be worked on and tinkered with much later than the stuff that has to be recorded. Writers work on the codex and similar things very late in development (once all the text needed for VO has been completed).

The SB email after Sanctuary is a complete departure from the main direction. In a good way, of course.

Also, that one line in the romance email above (about the "nonsense the Alliance cooked up") does more to establish Miranda's point of view than anything in the first dialogue itself. Compare with "the Alliance isn't known for its flexibility." Which is much more... innocuous and non-commital.

Also compare... "I'm owed a few favors" and that sort of thing from the dialogues with... "They didn't want to talk. But they did." from the phone app.

No, see I think that sort of "slap slap kiss" relationship should just go away. Fortunately, Miranda is mostly just teasing. But I much prefer friends first.

@Flemm

One gets the sense that they wrote the role, checked the thread, and immediately went into damage control mode.

I see it as her tempering her frustration when talking in-person. Plus, I think she'd sound too bitter if she were to use that exact phrase from the email again.

Well, was hot_heart referring to *slap slap kiss* exactly, though? Because I think it's true that there's often a lot of underlying tension between Miranda and Shepard that you don't really see elsewhere (except maybe with Jack, I guess).

Yeah, URST isn't always 'slap slap kiss'. And it's only really that if poorly developed.

I mean, yeah, there can be that sort of hate in there, though it's really only teasing or a front. It can be like Sam & Diane in Cheers or Maddie & Dave in Moonlighting.

Reminds me. I found this on YouTube and it made me chuckle. I'm guessing 'angst' is German for 'scared'. Yesika would probably know.

Could be. Certainly she shouldn't repeat herself. What I was getting at, though, is that the text tends to be more densely-written than the dialogues. The lines have meaning. Often communicating more with less than the main dialogues.

That's not really what it should be like. But it's what would happen if you had a novice writer working on the dialogues, but somebody more experienced writing the text or being free to hand-hold a bit more because everything else was done.

Yeah, I understand what you're getting at overall. Just that I'm not so critical of that particular instance because I think it sounds more natural in the context of two-way dialogue.

Oh, and I forgot to say thanks to MisterJB for sharing those emails. Good job!

Thanks for showing the emails, JB! Yeah, I like the difference. If only Shepard reciprocated the love and emotion...
