Well, Liara's a constant. Can you blame them?

Yes, I can.

While I like her as a character, making a blue-skinned space babe the most irreplaceable character in the series is like a kick in the face of suspension of disbelief.

/standard anti-asari rant

Let's hope Miranda will be a squadmate for a long period.

So that's the party line now? Unless they've decided to change things since the GI article, that doesn't carry any additional information at all. In fact, it carries less - the same thing, only more vague. I still get the feeling that they really want to sideline the ME2-exclusive team and are testing the waters about how much sidelining they can get away with. Well, in Miranda's case the answer is clear: none! She has too much potential for any kind of sidelining to be less than a big disappointment.

Well, we can hope... I'm still thinking she has the best chance to come back in a big way in ME3.

BTW:
Where has that demo gone? Following the link I get "unavailable"....

To be honest, I think all LIs from ME2 have a good density of material; Miranda the most, simply because of the whole Cerberus thing carrying through to ME3, if nothing else about her character - this alone should mean a lot for the team, even if you didn;t romance/like her at all in ME2. Also, due to his small part in the game as a whole, Legion is and should be an important chacratcer in ME3

i think they have - particularly after the backlash of the pro-ME2 crowd. i don't necessarily think that means they will get more material, i think perhaps that the ME1 survivors won't be as "necessarily permanent" as before though. really though whatever is disappointing, i only really like miranda, legion and mordin - the richest characters. i don't mind liara (well ME2/LoSB liara anyway) but she is no more a poster-child for the series than anyone else is.

If that means I can, for instance, rotate Garrus out in favor of Miranda, I'm all for it. I'm only concerned about interaction. If they just switch slots on the team after all lines have been written for the original scenario mentioned in the GI article, then Miranda's presence on the team will not be felt very strongly. And in the end, it's interaction with Miranda and her on-mission comments I care about more than her taking part in the combat. Apart from the totally necessary badass cutscene, that is.

How hard and likely do you guys/gals think it would be to implement a mechanic to make sure your LI is a guaranteed squad member? I know it would seem forced for some characters (Thane, Jack) but not for Miranda. Do you think they can pull it off and find a way for less plot integral LI's to fit into the larger scheme of things?

Thought you guys may want to see this and contribute, on the Mass Effect 3 Facebook page:

Mass Effect 3's Facebook wrote...

If a Mass Effect game would be released revolving around a team member of Shepard's team, who would you like to see featured as the main protagonist? Garrus, Wrex, Mordin? Or someone else?

Link - tinyurl.com/3j849gu. There is a huge amount of love for Garrus in the comments on that page at the moment, and to be fair I can see why people would pick him since he's been there from the beginning. However, as a true Mirimancer I would have to say Ms Lawson, hands down

Hmm...if I knew how to post comments on that page, I would. Never posted comments on Facebook before, and there doesn't appear to be an easily detectable button...

I don't want to have one of Shepard's squadmates as the new main PC of a new ME game. They have estabilished personality, opinions, class, and sex. But if I have to choose one, I'd choose Miranda or Wrex.

Easy in itself. Basically, if you can have a character on the team in one place, you can add him or her to all other places with very little effort.

The problem is squad banter and on-mission interaction and comments. There may be missions where it makes no sense that the character stays silent, so you'd need to add a comment - and have it voiced. If the character is normally desgned for just one mission, you might get squad banter inappropriate for the situation. Remember Overlord? Silent team members? That's what you can get for almost no effort, but who would be content with that?

Once everything's written and voiced - and ME3 appears to approach that point - all you can do is add silent presence with the occasional generic comment. Even rare situational comments like Garrus' about the krogan hospital have to be planned in advance.

A silent Miranda, as we've seen in Overlord, isn't much of a presence. Not significantly better than if she's not on a mission at all. One or two short comments can go a long way to establish presence, but none.....doesn't work.

Perhaps you need to be a friend to post comments? In that case I'll pass.(There is no comment box in my interface. But I can answer to discussion threads)

Since pretty much everyone in Shepard's Crew can die, I wouldn't want a game on any of them. But if I had to pick, Miranda or Wrex.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had the option to replace say Vega with an older team member (like Miranda?)
I mean Vega is there for new people...
Not hating on him, just that I don't see myself meeting new people in the last game...

I can see myself meeting and enjoying new squaddies. My objection to Vega is that he doesn't seem to offer much to vets.

So, I really think we're getting KH style temps, with ME2 squaddies showing up only on the relevant world/mission and again at the end. I'm okay with this.

@Ieldra

Yes. It's getting overhauled into a oneshot after talking it out with my beta since I'm not actually interested in the science or the relationship, only in Miranda having to face failure as someone he cares about lays dying.

Yeah that's the point I'm trying to make (it's early here -_-).
As long as the romance/dialogue is done justice and she's there as a temp like you said I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Do you guys think that Miranda is the most underrated character in Mass Effect? Everybody just judges her on her looks, but she actually has a pretty interesting past and personality.

You have an unhealthy obsession with emotionally torturing Miranda. And IIRC, I have yet to see a reasonably happy ending :(

I don't, but again I think I have too much faith in the game's playerbase to think that more than half of the Miranda's vast fanbase sees more than just nice round boobies and perfectly formed ass.

She's not underrated so much as written off. Just one look at her and she was already labeled. Same thing happened to Isabela in DA2. I consider both of them to be the deepest and most interesting characters in their respective games. But some people can't look past the surface to give them a chance.
