Tali is popular with the forum population.
With everyone else, not so much.

Personally, I'm happy that I'm not going to see her again in my ME3.

I
never get any squad mate killed even if I dislike them(well I don't
like Jack). Getting someone killed I think is a stupid thing to do. This
is a game and you don't know what you'll miss if you do that.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/whistling.png[/smilie]

I'm going to miss a character, that annoys me greatly. In other words, nothing. :P

I work at a game store (Gamers in Ames, IA). EVERYONE I know or talked to about ME2 has romanced Miranda. Not even half the customers have tried to romance Tali. I live in a college town, so we have a lot of kids come in there, so decide the average player at your own whim. Still, I looked at the numbers; We've have over 200 copies come in and out in that store since I started last May.

The majority of people I know that have played ME2 (about 20 or so) romanced Miranda too.  Most of them are not what I would classify as "hardcore" RPGers or serious fans of the series though.  I think that we have to accept that among BSN frequenters Miranda fans are outnumbered by the Talimancers to a large degree.

That doesn't mean BW should short change us though.  All I want from them in the short term is to know whether or not Miri will be a permenant squad member.  I am not going to concern myself with how her character is treated until I get to play the game.

Yeah they should reveal a bit about Miranda. Telling us her squad status won't be much of a spoiler. We just want to know whether she's permanent or temp right?

If they this is all they released between now and January I would be happy.  That's not too much to ask for is it?

maybe she is temporary and they want the next 9 months to be peaceful for them Image IPB

Would not be surprised to see it being that you help her out on a couple of cereberus related missions for an hour or two mid-game, then she has to go away for whatever reason then reappears for the end game showdown

Nice anecdotal evidence here. Appears to support Miranda's popularity, which is very nice ;)

That

I *am* concerned about how she's presented and treated. But I wouldn't like to be spoiled. Instead, we express our preferences about how we would like her to be presented here.

As for her team member status, all we have now is this (both quotes not 100% exact because reproduced from memory):

"For those asking about "permanent" squadmates, squadmates will work differently in ME3" (Christina Norman, indicating that no one may be unconditionally permanent after recruiting)
"Miranda will be in ME3. Where, when you will meet her again and how much you will see of her is a story spoiler" (Casey Hudson)

So I guess until they reveal how team members will work in general we won't get any more information. But it would be nice to hear something like "Yes, depending on your decisions you may have Miranda on the team or available for interaction in a significant portion of the game." If we don't get that, it's not for lack of trying. We keep asking.

Of course Miranda is romanced the most.

What kind of argument is that?

There's no "of course" about it. Here on BSN and generally among the gaming nerds, Tali appears to be the favorite by a big margin. More polls favor her than Miranda, and the occasional poll favoring Miranda is probably an outlier. Among the general population of players, Miranda appears to be the favorite, but this is supported only by one known poll, though it is a big one and very likely more representative than all the polls made here.

While it might not be common knowledge among the gaming public BW knows which character was romanced the most and used the most in combat.  I don't have a source but I am pretty sure I have read an interview with someone on the dev team that confirmed that BW's internal data showed Miranda as the most popular overall.  You gotta love all the "hooks" developers add to games nowadays so they can learn details like this.

they measure every metric you can imagine (as does every company), UE3 even has tools for it in the code, which is why, despite seemingly high popularity of tali/femshep here on BSN, general trends are far more skewed to normalcy (80% play as male) and i would guarantee that ashley and miranda were the most romanced in ME1 and ME2 respectively - most people simply aren't that adventurous (ignoring completely any character traits, appearance etc).

Hey...I can post in this topic.

I never registered my copy of ME2, so I couldn't post in that other topic. Although, there isn't really any deep discussion at the moment...so...

I sure hope Miranda has a hairstyle that actually looks like a hairstyle in ME3. That with improved lighting and shadows in ME3 would probably go a long way towards eliminating those moments where she doesn't quite do Yvonne Strahovski justice.

I got two of my friends (both big gamers) to play Mass Effect, one romanced Liara in ME1 and would have probably either stayed loyal to her in ME2 or romanced Miranda but ended up romanceing Tali only because he wanted to see what she looked like under her helmet; heck he wasn't even interested in romaceing the character before she came on to him. Pretty much the same with the other (but only played ME2 because of the PS3) but again he wasn't interested in Tali, and would have probably ended up with Miranda, but Tali came onto him and he wanted to see what the Quarians really looked like.

Slightly off topic: glad to see the thread going well, its even bigger then the Tali thread Image IPB

judging from ashley's updated look, miranda should be getting the new hair treatment, too - if previous comments about every major character getting an upgrade are true. i don't see why not - hair and proper vegetation (rather than that awful 2d crap [see: overlord]) were part of the last major engine update, going with the new lighting.

Ah, Miranda's making famous company. Great. Though her getting as iconic as Lara Croft will probably be too much to hope for ;)

***flies off into a dreamworld where Miranda doesn't just have her own game but her own game series***

o.0 I like Miranda's character, but I have to admit, I don't think she'd make a good main character for a game.

You never know, I mean they gave Jacob his own game (albeit for the iphone).  It wasn't BW best work but it was still his own game...;)

Depending on the possible choices made by BW in ME3 for the mass effect universe there will be spin off games.  Who knows, maybe Miranda's character will be developed enough to be the lead in a new title?  I will admit this isn't likely, but stranger things have happened.

None of the characters have shown enough, to really say they could have their own franchise. at least in my eyes. However if you look at potential, I would say Miranda would be in the upper tier with Liara. I think the Virmire Survivor could house a good spin off game as well.

Very true, none of the characters have been developed enough to play the lead in a new title, but ME3 might change that.   I would say Garrus could possibly be in the group of VS, Liara, and Miranda but I don't honestly think that a non-human would be given the main role in a new franchise.

In all likely hood BW would probably break away from its current crop of characters if/when they create a new game set in this universe.  It might even be an MMO (which would have it competing with STWOR strangely enough)...

A stealth-based prequel would be fantastic. She's a veteran operative. You can't tell me Galaxy was the first time something interesting happened to her.

Count me in the camp that cares very much how she's presented. I can "fix" a small role more easily than characterization I dislike. And I've killed everyone off at one time or another. Miranda included. I want to see how the story changes. Speaking of which, how do you think the story should change if she dies?

I'm not as big of a fanboy as most of the other people here, but yeah, having her back would be nice. I haven't had a playthrough where she hasn't been my LI. None of the other crewmembers interested me aside from kelly as a distant second.

Wow, good question. I haven't really sat and thought about it. Since I only have one save where she is dead. Off the top of my head? I'd say any chance of reforming/saving Cerberus goes to hell.

I seriously hope they wouldn't try and replace her with her sister.  I could see them taking the position of "well Oriana is Miranda's genetic twin", but that would be a horrible choice IMO.

My problem with this is that it doesn't contradict anything else they've said regarding teamates and is entirely consistent with the first thing we heard about how squadmates would work, that being that some would be full, some temp and some would just appear.

The basic thing is if we get temp squadmates then squadmates are off course working different than me1 and me2 therefore we told the truth if you get me.

I still go back to what i've been saying all along, that confirming Miranda as a full squadmate in no way shape or form spoils anything other than the fact Miranda is a full squadmate. To use the story spoiler excuse as a reason why they won't say one way or another is just BS. We've already been spoiled way more with other characters, hell Garrus and Tali could die in the sm but we're already spoled that they will return, the Vs. is now a spectre doesn't spoil any storyline or the fact that Liara who is the shadowbroker somehow will return doesn't spoil any storyline but Miri returning does.

At this stage i'm pretty damn convinced why they're saying what they're saying and i'm seriously pissed off because of it, we've had arrival turn me2 into a pointless excuse for a game and we seem to be getting shafted in regards to me2 specific characters also making me2 even more pointless.

We may get a role that works for Miranda as a temp squadmate, a role that may even make some sort of storyline sense but that still wouldn't make up for the fact that Bioware have treated the fans of me2 poorly at best and with complete disregard at worst.

I can understand some of the other me2 crew not returning in full roles, hell a lot of them have genuine story reasons why this would be the case, but in a game where cerberus are major antagonists for Shepard not to rely on Miranda's experience with cerberus, in a game where all bets are off for Miranda to have something better to do other than try to stop the reapers goes against all logic.

There is one reason and one reason only why Miranda wouldn't be a full squadmate and thats because Bioware just don't want to put the time and effort into creating that role for her. They're creating a storyline reason why she won't be rather than why she would be which to me is a slap in the face for Miranda fans and for everyone who bought me2.

Whats the point of choice when that choice has already been made and not by you.

dude, chill out a bit. sure this series has flaws, just like any other, but it's still the best series I've played.
