The death scene itself is sad, yes, but the breakup being the cause of her death is just f**king godawful. Words cannot describe how terrible it is.

Well, I think there's another way to look at it.  Miranda's death in ME3 is achieved if you break up with her...OR if you miss a rather crucial conversation that lets you warn her about Kai Leng.  The way I look at it, Miranda is effectively on her own throughout much of ME3, trusting only Shepard enough to tell him what she's doing.  By breaking up with her, you've damaged that trust/connection enough to the point where she thinks she can only rely on herself to protect her sister.  Because you hurt her, you can't tell her about Kai Leng, so he blindsides her.

Just some food for thought  :wizard:.  I won't disagree there's some railroading going on, but I don't think it's as bullsh*t as it may seem at a glance.

Except you can. Future conversations play out identically, so it comes across as writer-ly maliciousness.

Hi guys quick question,my original playthrough was with Liara/destory and now with the EC Iknow that if ems is high your name is not put on the memorial, I'm thinking of doing a miri playthrough from ME1-ME3/destroy is there a similar scene with Miranda at the memorial in the destroy ending and my EMS is high enough so i get the breath scene?

But Shepard can warn her about Kai Leng even if he breaks up with her.

Was Miranda planning a myriad of ways of breaking Shepard's heart in her mind and missed the part about the cyborg assassin on the loose?

Huh.  You can see how many times I've broken up with her (zero).

That said, I still don't think it's malicious in the slightest.  A ham-handed way of handling a 'consequence' maybe, but not malicious.

Miranda isn't on the Normandy. You get a different slide, and one of the crew does the memorial scene.

No. Miranda only gets the flachback animation and an epilogue slide. No in-game appearance at all.

I also don't mind the idea that the two "right" choices with Miranda are to either not get involved with her or stay involved with her, i.e. treating it like a fling gets a bad outcome.

So to me it ultimately gets back around to the central wierdness of Miranda's role, which is that she's in the game quite a bit, shows up at an important moment, has a lot of factors involved in her survival, the implementation is fairly intricate, but... she doesn't really do anything.

Everything is the same no matter what you do, or whether Miranda is there or not, except the 25 war assets you get if she survives. So... I honestly don't know exactly what the thinking is here. It seems like, logically, she should do something significant. I dunno.

Sorry, bit off-topic, but I replayed LOTSB and realised what a jerk Shepard is. The Shadow Broker throws a table at them and he dives to cover Liara instead of Miranda, who is knocked out for the duration of the fight. Total jerk.

(Yes, I know it's all gameplay-related reasons)

The death scene is the kind of melodrama I love. I've watched it an embarrassing number of times. But the breakup being a factor is just insulting. I can see her no longer caring if she lives or dies in ME3, but not over her boyfriend of a few months.

I'm fairly confident the justification here would be that you lose her loyalty if you do that, so she reverts to unloyal behavior (which is basically what happens). She no longer has the invisible "loyalty boost." Conceptually, it makes a certain amount of sense, but in practice I don't like it for reasons I won't bother rehashing.

Bringing up the loyalty aspect makes more sense. Never approached it that way. At least it makes a bit more sense, not that I like it. Then again It's just a commitment issue now, either commit to her in ME2, or pursue someone else...which considering the thread title I doubt that is an option to many of us. :D

He was diving to protect the woman he loves.

I still resent it. It's entrapment and I want to move on. I still like her, I just don't want to sleep with her.

I guess they could've presented it differently. Have your other squadmate go off and...fix a communication relay or those excuses they use in ME3. :P

But then, they didn't exactly bother with new VA stuff for any of your squadmates. Although I do like that Miranda, upon seeing a massive explosion, says something like "This could be a problem."

I don't think there was any ill intent behind Shepard diving to protect Liara in that scene. It's done to make the fight more challenging and to ensure that Liara gets her 'crowning moment of awesome,' as well as becoming the new Shadow Broker. There's no maliciousness there, and it definitely doesn't say "Hey, Liara's the one you should be romancing."

Yeah, I know. That's what I meant by gameplay-related reasons (and trying to plot out how each Shepard 'prioritises' their squadmates would've been a hassle).

But I can see why people might've thought there was a slightly better way to present proceedings, regardless.

I wouldn't mind so much if Miranda had her crowning moment of awesome in ME3 *fumes*

My canon ME3 Romance is Miranda, and my canon DA2 Romance is Isabela, so this picture speaks to me.

I'm gonna miss Hawke.  She was awesome.

The only lady missing from that threesome is Lian Sun from "Jade Empire" She was also a favorite of mine! Funny how my male character romanced all off these. Just something about them, that I liked. Must be the strong personality and humor they express in various ways.
