When did they say that and why? O_o I know it didn't move the plot much but ME2 is my favorite game in the series by far; arguably the best at this point.

They liked the story but Casey Hudson remarked that looking back introducing a squad where anyone could die in the second game made writing ME3 a lot harder. Pretty much "they could be dead" is the major reason for the ME2 squad getting sidelined, they couldn't figure out a way to make them work so they just didn't put in the effort.

The Suicide Mission mechanic of building a squad, gaining their loyalt, and researching upgrades that will affect the outcome of the final mission worked really well, it's just not well suited to the second act of the series. Gathering together a team of the galaxy's best and brightest and turning them into a team to fight the Reapers would have been a really cool way to do ME3. Not prepared for a mission or you don't have a squadmate's loyalty? People are going to die.

Yeah agreed.

Don't forget it was Mac Walters who said "What were we thinking?!" with regards to how the ME2 squad can all be dead and with trying to figure out what to do with them in ME3.

As for Garrus and Tali returning to the squad for a third time in ME3, I must say, in a trilogy in which the people on Shepard's ship are in a state of such flux, it's nice to have two characters who will always be there. Unless they died during the SM, of course. I may be somewhat bitter over the relative lack of Miranda in Mass Effect 3, but seeing as though I don't dislike either Garrus or Tali, it doesn't really bother me and adds some degree of Normandy consistency beyond Joker and the also-ditchable Chakwas.

EDI feels rather consistent as well, come to think of it, despite being introduced alongside the SR2. I guess it goes to show just how much I enjoy her character, heh.

I'm actually more troubled by how difficult it is to keep Miranda alive.

It's almost as if they wanted me to break up with her.

Yeah. Ultimately, one of the coolest concepts in the series is also probably its worst nightmare creatively. And I actually do enjoy most of the potential squadmate deaths, so the ride remains absolutely thrilling for me all the way through. But in the future it's going to feel somewhat... tainting.

I'm only troubled by how difficult it is to kill her in ME2, followed by the ease by which to be rid of her in ME3. I try not to read between the lines in negative tones too often, but as much of a Miranda fan as I am, and as relatively shafted as she was in ME3, in this case I can't help myself. It feels like she was destined for something greater, but the writers opted out.

She may very well have something planned. Both she and Jack have weapon slots.

I get the feeling I was supposed to like Liara fofr some reason.

But I don't.

I've seen you mention these weapon slots a couple of times now. Forgive my apparent ignorance, but what exactly do you mean? Are we talking about coding here?

I'm no programmer, but from what I understand it means that you can equip weapons to them.

You know that scene before you start a mission? Gun selections and such?

Both Miranda and Jack have that.

Er... they do? Huh. That's... huh.

It's just... lost somewhere in the coding, I suppose? That's good news, but the pessimist in me is pointing out the very real possibility that it's still in there by mistake because an earlier iteration had them join temporarily.

The person to talk to is Patrick Weekes.

He is very aware of the issue with the ME2 characters.

They also include things in the coding for later content.

Info for the Leviathan DLC is in the EC for instance.

Yeah, I know. I've shot Weekes a line or three over twitter. He does respond to me from time to time, but the man probably receives far too many tweets -- many of which are redundant -- to answer 'em all.

Kasumi data was in ME2 vanilla, also.

Miranda and Jacob were actually the two squadmate that made it out the most.

I would take Miranda and Jacob over EDI and Vega.

No contest.

The reason they aren't there is because the writers didn't want them to be.

The other squad mates have weapon slots too, it's the ME2 data that never got cleaned up when they made ME3.

Well anything is up for grabs I guess.

Weekes did say that if we wanted something with Miranda we needed to keep asking.

Just tweeted him, although I took a more generalized "ME2" cast standpoint for the sake of all fandoms. I'll get more specific with him in the future, though.

Well Liara got something, and it was great.

Miranda is the one person that keeps showing up as the one people wanting to come back so...I suppose it's possible.

Variables would need to be adjusted though.

I wonder if it would be possible to compare a Villain in the Trilogy to Khan Noonien Singh? There aren't any, right?

Interesting question. Well, Kai Leng kind of seems to believe he's superhuman what with those enhancements, but although I actually do like the guy, he's no Khan when it comes to master plots, heh.

Obviously, Miranda has some genetic similarities. Grunt too, for that matter.

Liara couldn't die in ME1 and was kept out of ME2 so that she wouldn't die. That's the biggest challenge here. That and the fact that Miranda's story has essentially been written already. Any and all added content for her would have to integrate itself into the preexisting parameters.

Then again, maybe not. Leviathan's files seem to indicate some minor alterations with the Catalyst scene if downloaded. I suppose some more lines could be altered for Miranda. Not like she has all THAT many... :P

Khan would outsmart Kai Leng.

There is no contest.

From what I've been led to understand he's supposed to some sort of uber badass.

All I can hear in my head is his response to my Shepard taunting him.

"SHUT UP!" - Kai Leng

And I meant a Villain who has Superior Intellect. One who is also vengeful and menacing.

Yeah, sorry, I missed the "villains" part somehow.

I really do like Kai Leng. He works for what he is. But yeah, no contest whatsoever.

Well frankly, I don't think anyone fits the bill, then. The Reapers have "superior" intellects, and they aren't exactly traditional births, so maybe Sovereign and Harbinger?
