I do not dislike Kai Leng, per say, but I do hate the way his personality is actually that of a five year old. Looting medals from fallen enemy combatants? Yelling "SHUT UP" when taunted by his target? (Eating cereal in Anderson's house?) What the **** Bioware. He just needs to grow up a bit.

Yeah, I thought about both. They have their share of similarities, but when I think Khan, the first thing that comes to mind is his genetic engineering. I think that's his most striking feature, personally. Neither Saren nor The Illusive Man share that precisely, but they're both re-engineered. And they're both quite cunning and capable. I'd probably given Saren the upper hand in a no-holds-barred fight to the death, though.

That is, unless The Illusive Man can control Saren. Then it's over.

Haha, well for one thing I don't count Deception as canon. The announcement of an eventual rewrite was, to me, enough reason to just headcanon out of existence entirely. (Although I probably would have done so anyway.)

The "shut up" line I actually enjoy. I would have liked it if he'd had more intelligent dialogue up that line, but I just really admire the raw "immaturity" of it. Not in a way in which I admire him, obviously, but I like how Shepard breaks him to the point that he blurts that out like a child.

I didn't even know Miranda could die until I came to the BSN.

I'd say TIM is closer to Khan. It's a shame Ricardo Montalbon couldn't play TIM that would have been awesome.

I made a deal with my beta where I would do one positive oneshot for each "Let's kill Shepard" novella. This was part of the result. Sgepalyst speech is italicized, but that's not preserved here.


He became me so that he could use the Reapers to heal the wounds of this war. And heal the Reapers themselves, if such a thing is possible. They are so broken.

Thoughts raced around Miranda's head like out of control skycars. Matt—you—controls the Reapers? And he chose to do it? He wanted them destroyed."

Because he believed it was the only path to peace. It was not. The price for simple destruction was judged too high. Each Reaper is all that remains of a civilization. The geth and the creature you call EDI would have perished alongside them. He believed it would be the largest genocide in history. So he sacrificed himself to create me so that all might live.

And that was when Miranda decided the creature was telling the truth. Matt’s nobility had been alternately infuriating and endearing. She had practically had to drag him onto the shuttle at Lazarus Station when he had insisted on looking for survivors. He had gambled by rewriting the heretic geth rather than destroying them because he thought he "ought to at least give them a chance." Yes, he would do something like this.

"So now he has the power of the Reapers at his command. I hope he can handle it." And I hope he still cares for me wherever he is.

He has nothing. The man you call Matthias Shepard died when I was born. All that he was exists within me. His love of art and his love of you. But I cannot feel as he did. The creature shook its head. I cannot love you. Memories and feelings exist within me, but they are merely data.

"Then what good are you?" Miranda’s throat burned. "An all-powerful AI. We exist because you permit it. What’s stopping you from crushing us like insects? A tyrant without feeling. That isn't what Matt would have wanted."

He gave me directives. I know what he wished the two of you to create. A galaxy free of the self-interest of the Council where humanity can advance not by oppression, but by creating knowledge. I will ensure that the many are protected. I will build the future you and he wished for. All will have a voice in that future. The galaxy will not need to fear men like Henry Lawson who think that there wealth and power gives them license to do as they please. The man I was thought you were a marvel. He wanted to create a world where there were more like you and they were not hated and feared because of their gifts.

The knife twisted in Miranda's chest. The creature was so like Matt and yet so not like him. Yes, this was the vision they had shared, but described in such a toneless, emotionless way that it made Miranda shiver. The creature was right; it wasn't Matt. It was a mockery of him, as those half-husk troops had been a mockery of the Cerberus she served. "Why are you telling me this? You could have one of your Reapers kill me here and now. It doesn't matter if I know your plans for what I think of them. So why bother?"

It frowned again, no more naturally than before. My predecessor had noble goals. It wished to preserve organic and synthetic life. The solution it created was unacceptable. I am not God, Miranda. I will live for as long as the Citadel exists, and I command the Reapers, but I am not omniscient. If my code were to develop errors or was otherwise flawed, I could become the very thing he sought to destroy. As you said, none would be able to stand against me. I wish for this state of affairs to be temporary. Life, organic and synthetic, should be wise and strong enough to stand against me if I am ever wrong. I wish to assist, not to rule.

The thing grew silent for a long moment, studying its transparent hands. It didn't look at her. My memories of him indicated that our meeting would likely cause you emotional pain, and I had intended to keep my existence secret from you for that reason, but there's no other option. You are the best candidate. It stretched forth its right hand. The fingertips were no longer transparent, but glowing with white light. Organic life is far below me in the Reapers. He could have chosen to transform all life so that it could access their knowledge and power and so the ultimate crisis could be averted. That was my predecessors wish. The man I was rejected this. He believed life must choose the shape and form its ascension will take. But I can give you the first spark. I can place a little knowledge into your head. In time, it will allow you to equal or surpass me. I will be unnecessary.

Man, I wouldn't trade Martin Sheen's performance for anything, but...

I'd certainly be willing to visit an alternate reality with Ricardo Montalbon instead. :happy:

I've been reading the Mass Effect novels. Got the first two read and I'm glad I picked them up. They're not exactly literary masterpieces or anything, but they definitely help fill in the gaps in the story.

Just, uh... do some research before you willingly purchase the fourth one. I'm typically one of the franchise's most outspokenly positive fans as far as people who aren't completely nuts are concerned, but I helped out a little bit in bringing to BioWare's attention what an atrocity of noncanon and utterly confounding garbage that book was.

Mind you, it's the only one not penned by Karpyshyn, too.

I like ME2 and ME3 more than ME1. /shrug

As far as things outside the games themselves are concerned, though, Karpyshyn is lightyears ahead of Mac.

I do too. I mean, it's cool to see the First Part of My Story again, BUT, I still like ME2 more than ME1, because I started out with ME2, so I am more "Emotionally Attached" to ME2 and the Characters in ME2.

This explains why saying "Goodbye" to them felt more Emotional for me. They will always be my First and #1 Squad, no matter how many times I replay ME1 with My Story.

I dig ME1, it's still in my top twenty or so games. But I really like how ME2 fleshed out the universe so much and added a style I wound up preferring. ME3 fleshed it out more in the middle of a galactic war we all knew was coming, and closed off several plot threads quite competently. Several were handled less competently, of course, but it was a noble effort and might be my favorite in the trilogy.

If we got more Miranda, it'd definitely be my favorite...

I hope that we see a Miranda DLC. I will pay $20 for a DLC with Miranda in it! But I have gotten my hopes up about other stuff before and have been dissappointed in the past.....

Yep, most of us have. You're not alone! Best to remain cautiously optimistic in all things. Optimistic enough to keep harping at BioWare about it and to do so in compelling enough ways that they listen. Cautious enough to know that there are no guarantees.

You're right Jeff, that does give us plenty of encouragement, which is nice.

But you're also right FFFG, we wanted a reunion in the EC and that didn't happen. But I would totally pay for a Miranda DLC that includes a mission, romance, and character development on the Cerberus side of things.

Well, I guess that because I'm seeing My WHOLE Story again starting with ME1 again (I'm NOT  Altering anything "Major!"), it will probably be Equally Emotional Saying "Goodbye" to everyone. IDK, maybe not. All I know is that saying "Goodbye" to Miri will ALWAYS  be More Emotional, because she is My Love Interest<3:wub:.

I wouldn't know, and I don't want to see it.

I remember the first time I played ME2, I couldn't resolve the argument. After that EVERYONE was Loyal. I took Miri's side again more than a Year ago, but EVERYONE Stays Loyal now.
