The key word in his post was character development.

Aside from setting the stage for the Crucible she really doesn't do anything else.

Okay, let's see... She also worked on that project to record everything they had on the Reapers in case they failed, she was always sending SB agents to help the cause. As of character development, how about her meeting Aethyta or the way she was devasted about Thessia? Characters with no development in ME3, for me, are Miranda, who became a shell, Vega, who's just there saying stuid things, and as much as I like Garrus, there's no development for him in the game as well.

As far as I can remember, Liara mentioned the Shadow Broker looking at ways to stop the Reapers, and gaining access to those resources is what led to the (convenient) discovery on Mars. So, it's not like that aspect was entirely shoe-horned in (if you're willing to accept Liara's drastic transformation between ME1 and 2 anyway).

I noticed that actually.

She does mention this in the dialouge in LotSB.

One of my favorite moments in all of gaming happens with Garrus on the Citadel. The shooting contest is inspired. He has plot development.

Miranda is caught in a flux. A development has to be inferred. The look on her face when you continue the relationship is character development.

Liara is forced on the player. You can't even be mean to her.

What's with the hate for Vega? He's a pretty decent character. A lot better than I thought he was going to be. He's actually one of the few introduced elements that work for the game.

It isn't so much Vega himself, rather what he is supposed to represent. The new players. Never mind that he's borderline mentally disabled.

*Sees a marauder* "Durrr, dem Reapahs look liek turans!"

I hate what he represents as well, but that doesn't stop me from liking his character. Mind you I don't really see him as an oaf bumbling about everywhere. Yeah he's naive, but he's a young kid with a lot of potential on being a soldier.

Paragon Lost trailer makes him look like a chump though.
What the hell is with this American obsession with anime? All I ever get out of it is how weird and perverted the Japanese are.

Actually...

The Japanese have serious restrictions on what they can show.

You can't show full frontal nudity in Japan. At all.

I dunno. Traynor or ME1-era Liara are more what I'd say is legitimately naive. Vega is just... No.

Oh, there's also-

"Durrr, wat u mean teh kroganzz dun wan to cooperate wit da turans nd salarins?"

Well, I think he's a stupid character. Vega is incredibly dumb, arrogant and he doesn't do anything. With FemShep he's always flirting with her and when she asks if he plans to do anything about it all he can do is laugh awkwardly. Other than stopping Eva's shuttle, which is not a good thing considered that's how EDIbot came to be, he didn't do anything other than bit**ing or look down on Shepard. "Oh, I sacrificed my squad for information but you had to destroy the CB and have all the glory, didn't you?" or "Since I'll never have my own ship, this soft looks too soft, you're not soldier enough unless you sleep on the floor".

On the personal level, he's an unecessary character and he took the spot from a ME2 character on the ship. He only exists because EA/BioWare wanted the new players to have a squad member they could identify with. Even Weekes said so himself, or was misquoted at least, that he didn't like the concept of Vega at first.

Erm....."Since I'll never have my own ship, this soft looks too soft, you're not soldier enough unless you sleep on the floor"? When did Vega ever say anything about sleeping on the floor or complain about never getting his own ship? I've played ME3 5 times already and he never does so.

You bring him up to your cabin, he comments that this is what he has to look forward to when he gets his own ship. After their conversation about joining the N7 program, Vega jokes that its too soft for him up there and makes his exit (With Shepard sort of flirting with him on the way out).

His lines about bringing up the Krogan not wanting to work with the Salararins and Turians was unnessecary and could have simply been a Codex Prompt but, to be honest, knowledge of the Genophage and ete probably isn't too well known on Earth.

Though, This does mean that the poorly-drawn Krogan in Paragon Lost cannot bring up the Genophage at all....And, so far, every Krogan in the series DOES bring it up. : / Either way, I probably won't watch Paragon Lost. Poorly-Drawn Characters, Vega looks nothing like Vega, Bad Animation...

Someone who doesn't want to jump into Sheps bed gets respect from me.  The way I see it, he started out interested but with seeing all the horrors of the Reaper war decided it was best not to get involved like that.

Other than stopping Eva's shuttle, which is not a good thing considered that's how EDIbot came to be, he didn't do anything other than bit**ing or look down on Shepard. He lost most of his squad to a decision he regrets.  Going for the data.  After that it's worse because Shepard put a stop the Collectors anyway...something he didn't know about till later.  This isn't about glory.

Second part is just him making a comment on the bed, not to be taken too seriously I think considering most of the time Alliance soldiers sleep in pods and such

If he looked down on Shepard, why did he ask him for advice on the N7 program?  I don't remember him "****ing" at all either.

PS: You are quoting him horribly btw

Of course he never says it like that. But he does mention that Shepard's bed looks too soft for his taste. He also doesn't complain about the ship, but he says something about being confortable with his ship only when he's old if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, again the quotes weren't to be made serious, he made a decision, one that I would never agree with, but he did and has to live with it, during the scene he and Shepard are sparring it sure seems he resents Shepard somehow for all the lifes he lost.

Maybe he grew to respect on Shepard, but he certainly didn't seem all that in awe of Shepard when the game started. And Vega wanting to go back to Earth and than complaining about the decision about his squad is b**ching to me.

Vega isn't in awe of Shepard at the beginning probably because Vega has been watching Shepard for 6 months between games.

He makes me think of Shepard when he was younger. His major problem is that there isn't much interaction between him and Shepard I don't really feel like I know him any better after playing the game and I'm not going to buy a bunch of crappy tie-in material to get what should have been there in the first place.

What would be entertaining is sticking him with Miranda:

Vega: Can I ask you a question?

Miranda: (sighs) For the last time, I don't know where to get a pair of Cerberus-issue jet boots.

Vega: Not that question. You're on the run from Cerberus and your dad right?

Miranda: Yes.

Vega: And your dad's last name is Lawson too right?

Miranda: That's correct.

Vega: So if you're on the run wouldn't you want to use a different name?

Miranda: You know I never thought about that.

Hmm, I didn't see is as resentment. I saw it as regret and then venting about what happened.  It's clear this weighs heavy on him as he was the leader who made the call.  Not knowing about what Shepard did (since he was dead technically and then was off the grid for ME2) was like rubbing salt in the wound IMO.

If only some people knew when not to take things too seriously...

He likes dinosaurs. Therefore, your arguement is invalid.

Well, Garrus wanted to stay on Palaven, so did that general there but they knew (especially Garrus) that this was bigger than that.  Vega doesn't really know much about the Reapers so he thinks this is just an invasion on Earth (at least that's how I see it).  As the devs said he's new to the whole galay thing, kinda like Shepard was in ME1 (more parallels can be drawn here).  Once he sees other planets under Reaper fire I think he comes around to the idea that yeah, we need to stand together to take back our worlds (he even says something to that effect) or we won't have anything to come back to.

Wow, you're critizing someone, it must be Friday. ;)

Nope, just pointing out things I don't agree with.

Yes, exactly! I mentioned this in the previous post but yeah you can really draw parallels between the two.  And yeah I agree with the rest.  I don't like how things get stripped out just for profits <_<
Happened with Jacob in ME2 with that app, Galaxy.

Glory? The problem was that Shepard made the sacrifices of his entire squad irrelevant. They died for nothing and yes, he resents Shepard for it.

"Since I'll never have my own ship, this soft looks too soft, you're not soldier enough unless you sleep on the floor".

It's called a joke.

I can understand considering Vega as unnecessary and resenting him for being a new character when we all wanted our favorites back.
However, for what he is, I kind of like him. He is not an incredibly remarkable character but I don't think he was supposed to be. James Vega is a young man with an enormous heart who is doing his best to protect others as well as escape from the slums he grew up in and his junkie of a father.
I wish they had explored the idea of him being Shepard's padawan while still greatly resenting him. It could have been interesting, especially if he kept on treating Shepard with less reverence than most people.

I ship him with Oriana. Don't ask me why.
