It was very sad when my Shepard had to go without having fulfilled his promise, but in a good way.
You bastard. You made a promise to Miranda. Miranda is the last person you break a promise too.
As much as it pains him, Cyrus Shepard must make the decision he believes to be best for the galaxy, even if it means breaking the promise. Would he not, he would not feel himself worthy of Miranda's regard.
Well, that's a hard reason to argue against. I applaud your Shepard's altruism.
My Shepard's altruism has led to him seeing that a lot of the galaxy has proven itself not worthy of being saved. It's just a bunch distrust, racism, and BS'ing around with each other. The galaxy never needed the Reapers to wipe out all life. They were doing a very good job of it on their own.
Yes, that's Rhea's ending. People just can't manage their own affairs in a mature way. Consequently, she chose Control...
But he's proud he managed to bring everyone together to fight the Reapers, but by that point, there's only two things - two people left worth fighting for and those people are himself and Miranda. I like you're idea of him feeling unworthy of Miranda, but my fic is AU with a completely different ending based on Glowboy being an illusion created by the Reapers and the Crucible being a Reaper trap, and the revelation that the Citadel itself IS a giant Reaper, and the true avatar of Harbinger.
Let's say that version wouldn't appeal to me

I like the idea of Miranda and Shepard running away to do their own thing after the war, but I'd make it come about in a much different way.
