Leng's issue is that he has no introduction, if you didn't read the novels he's just Stom Shadow meets Sir Robin from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Were it up to me I'd have introduced him on Mars. Having him infiltrate  the Archives without anybody realizing what was going on and taking the VS out of commission would work better than just having him randomly kill Thane out of nowhere. I'd also have him leading the attack of Gellix (It's the ME version of the first act of Empire Stikes Back and if Leng's going to be TIM's Darth Vader he'd better act the part). Thessia shouldn't even exist, nothing happens there and it just pads the third act.

Having Shepard fight Leng before Cronos really weakens his character because he needs huge amounts of plot armor just to keep us from killing him in one go. Shepard's first encounter with Saren however shows that Saren is a lot tougher than Shepard and that he won't go down easily.

Pretty much this:

I've heard about him in the novels, I'm more terrified of Saren.

Kai Leng is a buffoon and always will be.

I loved that artwork because it showed that Shepard isn't some god.  There are enemies out there that can take him down.  Was actually hoping to see this in game...bleh

Hey Casey Hudson, THIS is Kai Leng being a badass, not what was in that Deception novel.

Shepard was never a god. He was a soldier. I thought that was more than evident especially in the beginning of ME2.

He's an extraordinary individual thrown into an extraordinary situation, nothing more.

My Shepard certainly isn't a god. The number of times he died getting pushed down some stairs by Shiala clones...

That's kind of the point actually.

Shepard isn't some magical being summoned when the plot needed him (wat).

He's just an exceptional being who has come to represent the hearts and minds of the denizens of the galaxy.

He's a man. Nothing more.

If we lose him, humanity might well follow.

Kai Leng was so terrible because the writers genuinely wanted us to consider him as Shepard's equal. He felt forced.
Saren made for a much better nemesis.

He represents an ideal, which makes him appear more godly.

"But he's just one man..."

Miranda understood this.

That reminds me that I want to make some mini-edit consisting of:
- That exchange ending with "Then make sure that we don't lose him"
- Cut to: Normandy explosion
- Cut to: Shepard can't breath then that long shot (I think there is one)
- Roll credits

Of course, but he kept getting things done and I wanted a scene like that to show that no he can't always win (in ME3 of course). ME1 had it with Saren, ME2 had...Harbinger. ME3 had Kai Leng but he wasn't as good as what they had him doing in the 1st leaked script of the game.

Replace the cheap fight at Thessia with the above and I think that character would have resonated more with fans, maybe on the level Saren did in ME1.

But then we wouldn't have had ballerina Kai Leng...hmm

If Kai Leng's bit had involved Shepard being taken out of action and then some way in that either one of two characters died (very much like Virmire), it would've made the whole role that much stronger. Sounds like that may have been somewhere in the original brainstorm.

Instead they just threw Thane/Kirrahe at it.

Shepard is more than capable of failure. Which makes him more interesting in my opinion.

The issue with Kai Leng is that he has an insane amount of power in cutscenes and he becomes a less than capable Phantom when in game. He also runs twice, which is more than annoying and it doesn't serve to fit his supposed badass nature.

I would have preferred a physical victory in confrontation on the Citadel and a loss on Thessia, making them appear more even.

That would allow you to still know about him and warn Miranda AND allow him to escape with the VI to further the plot.

Damn..... Imagine that on Cronos and after a fraction of second, out of nowhere Miri smashes him by an biotic attack to help Shepard out.

^ Yes. Yes.

It would have been like what she does to the Asari Commando in her Loyalty Mission.

But she'd have to say something.

One set of dialouge if romanced and one not.

Yes?

Yeah, that was what the 1st version of the script contained: A situation where Kai Leng beats Shep and the squad and as Shepard you had to crawl to either the VS or Liara and give them medigel so that they could get everyone out of there.  Whomever you didn't choose would die.

When he would have been an actual antagonist, that would have been pretty epic!

I'm sure that Liara was saved by Mac Walters on more than one occasion.

I'm still shocked that she can fry in a Low EMS run to the beam.

Now, Want to know one scene that caught my eye in the artbook?

Cerberus invading the Normandy. They show a Cerberus agent crashing through Shepard's Sky/Spacelight and landing on his bed. Could have been a great call back to the Collector Invasion in ME2 and Kai Leng could have been shown as a true villan.

Huh? Your pic is great it's just sad that Kai Leng is more of a pretty ballerina than an actual villain.

Come to think of it a lot of characters ended up like Kai Leng.

Although not in the same capacity thankfully.

Hey everyone! Got something that I've been mulling over for a while and I thought I'd pose the question here.

In Mass Effect 3, Miranda is essentially a covert operative, with specific emphasis on working under the radar. It occurred to me that it's a bit bizarre for someone operating under the radar to be wearing the same outfit she wore while under Cerberus employ (minus the Cerberus insignia). While I can't alter the model in any shape or model, what are your thoughts on heavily altering the existing outfit to something that's more subtle, and also more personable? I'm still going to be constricted by her boots, arms and belts, but I think Miranda could look more..."appropriate," for lack of a better word.

For now, have this image of a successfully ported high resolution texture from Mass Effect 2. I forgot to remove the Cerberus insignia :X

I think that that would go over very well Jean Luc, in fact it's been a source of debate here. We assume that the simplest answer is the correct one in this case. Bioware simply didn't make her a new outfit.

Anything new would a most welcome edition.
