Actually, Interesting thing related to this popped into my head (and the edit post form won't work on my phone).

If it came down to it, Could Miranda pull the plug on Shepard?

Well, that idea reminds me the automails from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Well, That depends on what you mean by patch Shepard up? It depends on how he was injured in your canon. In mine, he's got all sorts of issues; all his implants are busted including the eye implants so he's blind when he first wakes up (insert touching scene of Shepard feeling Miranda's face when he wakes up and knowing its her). His right leg was crushed under rubble and had to be amputated to get him out and his right arm was lost to infection (which I need to retcon in my fic as being up to the shoulder as that's where Marauder Shields shot him). Then we get into the mental issues. Oy vey...

Physically for me, he doesn't lose any limbs. A lot of his cybernetics are burned out, but by then, he's already running on his own power. He isn't like Tony Stark.

As for PTSD, I can tell you a lot about that, having been treated with my own mild case. My Shepard isn't bothered by it. He wonders whether or not he should have picked destroy or not (He saw right through Synthesis and Control as non-solutions) and believes that he could have prevented a lot of deaths, at the expense of EDI and the Geth had he not refused. But it's more of a 'what if' feeling.

A lot of PTSD cases come from people unable to adapt with the stresses of NOT living in a combat zone. It's ingrained in you that you have to fight and see everything as a potential threat, even friends and family. A lot of it is the slipping into combat, or zen mode, as I call it. You're no longer a person so much as you are the lethal, cold blooded killer that every serviceman and woman is indoctrinated into when you go through your basic combat training.

Military and First Responder (Police, etc.) PTSD cases are a lot different than your average type. The average type of sufferer (rape victim, hostage survivor, car crash survivor, etc.) freezes up and mentally breaks down when going through the reliving of their experiences. It's likened to being so debilitated by terrified panic that it disables the fight or flight reaction and you are literally frozen with horror.

The military version does not necessarily follow that. Instead when we military personnel are reverted to the fight or flight stage, we fall back onto what we were built into from our training. We get locked into the fight stage and basically everything becomes a target, an outlet. We fall into the state that we do everything possible to survive, and, unfortunately, that can cause us to instinctively and without warning lash out at our loved ones. I had several brothers and sisters from across the service who fell victim to that, one minute being the loved family man or woman, and then getting the stimuli that elicits that reaction, to pointing a gun at a loved one, like a wife, a parent, and in one sad case, a child.

It's very difficult to overcome and the consequences of not getting treatment and help can be very tragic.

...Actually, the automail was my second inspiration. Lol A cross between iRobots' synthetic limbs and FMA's Automail. FMA:Brotherhood was one of my first animes.

Following up with your comments, Feindish, I don't have Synthesis and Control in my canon. Infact, EDI and the Geth do not die period. However, he is having issues of "Could I have done things better?" Partially steming from Thane's death (which I did change). I headcanon dreams of his death and those that have died in place of the child in the woods which have now worsened after the end of the game.

He'll get better eventually.

This question has been driving me crazy:

Is the Shepard-Controller capable of loving Miranda? On the one side we have "your connection to your kind will be lost" but on the other side we have Joker/EDI. If that's valid, he/it should be able to care for her still.

In my canon, the Crucible was a Reaper trap, but the forces he gathered allowed the Victory fleet to defeat the Reapers. Less than 50% of all forces are intact. The fleet that took the worst beating was the Quarians. With nearly a quarter of their population outright wiped out, the Quarians are in dire straits, and several other species have taken a severe beating. The elcor are on the verge of extinction, every Volus who entered the Sol system has been killed, the Batarians have only 4 ships left, etc.

The Raloi, the new species that panicked and destroyed their own technology was wiped out. The Reapers didn't even bother to harvest them, they were simply annihilated.

Shepard dies in control. We can say the he was virtually assimilated by the Catalyst, creating a new AI.

I'm not necessarilly a military man myself. I joined for my own reasons, namely to see the world, get an education, and focus my energies on something productive; I love being a leader for my soldiers. And for the adventure too, I guess. I agree with compassion and diplomacy.

But the simple fact is; it's true. We are turned into a well-trained, and some would argue mindless thoughed I'd argue otherwise, battle ready killer. I went through the process. Every person who joins the military has to. Without the capability to kill, we wouldn't be very good at our job. And by the time we're called in, the diplomacy has, from one side or the other, broken down, and now it's our job to go over and do our mission.

By family, I mean the fraternal bonds that all members of the armed forces share with each other. And you are right, they are my family, and I am greatly concerned to see what can happen to them if they don't get help

Lost limbs? I would imagine that that would be rather fatal unless you also cauterized wounds in that explosion.

No Shepard is going to get out unharmed. Some physically, some mentally.

In the dream sequences, as I'd think he'd really stress about people like Miranda,Garrus and even Javik. Those types of stress leave lasting impacts. He'll be okay, but he'll be having bad nights for the rest of his life. At least someone will be there to calm him down.

It's not perfect, but the stress is more fitting, at lest for my Shepard.

Then let's talk about something that isn't depressing.

What's the first thing Miranda is going to say to Shepard when he wakes up?

What first attracted you to Miranda in ME2, other than her beauty (booty)? This question is for everyone. :)

Well considering the first thing he's gonna say is "found you" the first thing she is gonna say is "you ass". All before she kisses him.

Honestly, her eyes. She has the most beautiful eyes.

Aside from her looks it was definately her sense of humor. "Not anymore." "Or two in your case." being the first lines I liked.

"We've got to stop meeting like this."

Considering the first face I'd like him to see is hers, it will bring the story full circle, as the first person he saw when waking up in ME2 was here also.

But yeah, kisses and possible "I love yous" are always nice.

And then she should probably get the Doctor...

As cliche as it sounds, I honestly knew she would be my LI after the scene where Shepard wakes up and sees her face. Also, I wanted to get to know the girl under the tough exterior.

Pretty much.

Going out on a limb and saying that it was this picture.

I thought of her as the girl that no one really knew. Closed off, mysterious. That's what drew me to her.

I bought the game because of this picture, and for the reasons stated before she became Shepard's LI.

Kudos to BioWare for making me care this much about a character in a game.
