There is always a story behind characters like Miranda though. Before I got into Mass Effect though, all I had ever really heard about her was from, well, that scene in the engine room.

Come to find out she's the embodiment of the characters I love to study. Detached, somewhat socially inept and looking for a way out. Thankfully, her way out doesn't involve shoot outs with pimps a la Taxi Driver, or bees in O Melissokomos.

She's a rare thing these days, regardless of how she looks. A competent, professional woman who can match any man, and surpass them to.

That itself interests me. Strong women are my favorite in films.

I assume you meant such portrayal is rare. Although not “rare these days” which implies it was less so previously. It wasn‘t…slowly, things are getting better.

Let's see....The first thing that attracted me to her was...Ok, the Sarcasm was certainly a point in her favor but I fell in love with her more intellectual side and listening to her talking about her sister was so...interesting. She was showing a side there she didn't really show anywhere else. Also, Australians are Sexy. PERIOD. Their genetic code reads "SEXY".

Anyways....Hmmm...I'll have to think about what Shepard will say to Miranda when he wakes up. Probably be something like "Thank god you're alive", which is ironic considering he was on life support.

Sorry I didn't post any Shep/Miri feels guys. My Sexy Drell Bro needed them tonight as Chapter 4 is entirely dedicated to the poor Drell-lickers. And I've been procrastinating on this chapter for over a month. Need to get several chapters done before school starts.

And, sadly, no more Miri feels in the fic for awhile guys. Chapters after Thane focuses on Mindoir, Elyssium, Akuze, and Torfan. Might sneak in a "Girls night out" Chapter for some releif comdey though. That sould be interesting. Miranda, surrounded by all the females on the ship, out for a night of drinking.

NO
WAY
THIS
CAN
GO
WRONG

It's still rare. Most women are not portrayed as comptent or at least in the manner they should. A vast majority of films don't even have two women talking about something other than men. That alone tells me a great deal. Even framing choices put them at a lower level than men.

There have always been expceptions to this rule however. One of my favorites is Joan Crawford in Johhny Guitar. She wore pants in 1954 and it scared the **** out of people. I still haven't seen some match the ferocity she had in that film, except perhaps her opponent in that film, Merceds McCambridge.

This question has been driving me crazy:

Is the Shepard-Controller capable of loving Miranda? On the one side we have "your connection to your kind will be lost" but on the other side we have Joker/EDI. If that's valid, he/it should be able to care for her still.

Shepard isn't exactly "in control" of the Reapers. He sacrifices his humanity to replace the Catalyst's motivations with his own.  Although the Overmind does say that he'll "watch over those who live on"  and besides considering everything that Shepard's gone through he at least deserves a happy ending:

All it is is an AI with his personality imprinted on it. It's a machine with programming. It cannot love as it does not have the capacity.

The Catalyst states this. You will only acknowledge their existence.

The whole benevolent/malevolent dictator thing creeps me out.

I didn't really begin to appreciate Miranda's character until Mass Effect 3. Before I had always felt as if she was a fling until Sheploo could reconnect with Ash in ME3. But after meeting with Miranda on the citadel i really began to notice how much of an effect Shepard has had on her. Plus after watching the break up scene on Youtube I couldn't bear to do that to Miranda.

Actually, Interesting thing related to this popped into my head (and the edit post form won't work on my phone).

If it came down to it, Could Miranda pull the plug on Shepard?

If there was absolutely no other option and Shepard was in pain, I think she would.

Physically? Her eyes. The sexiest shade of blue, ever.

Mentally? About everything.

Shepard's going to have his limbs cloned, but that'll take months normally, let alone after a galactic war. He could get a prosthetic leg (similar to what Zaeed could have had) but nothing that would be connected to his nerves. He'd have to relearn how to use his arm and leg and then relearn how to use them a third time once he had the cloned limbs attached. That's a lot of work. Probably easier to just have Miranda help him for a few months till he's back on his feet litterally.

Mechanical augmentations, a la Adam Jensen.

Well, minus the crippling dependency on Neuropozyne.

If it's 'a la Jensen' then there is no dependency on Neuropozyne. :P

That wry sense of humour she during that whole scene after shooting Wilson. Plus, that voice.

Huh, that's an interesting one.

Well, i first knew about Miranda when someone made me watch the engin room scene........it was kinda weird, i was like "huh....okay, that's cool mate".

Then i bought the game and i just loved the scene where you wake up and see this beautiful face. i was getting interested, and then she shoots Wilson and has a sarchastic humour, i'm like "okay.....she means business"

But yea, what really drew me was just this intelligent, beautiful women, where you see the cold surface, but if you dig deeper and prove your trust, you trully see who she is, a caring and hurt person.........so yea i love Miranda :P

I'm sure there will be, unless Shepard shares Adam's "unique" genetic structure.

It wouldn't be the first bit of bio-magic in ME3.

Hmm, well, you could posit that since he already has cybernetics, the body has a disposition for them now. Slightly less severe bio-magic. :P

But in the end, do we even know what are the cybernetics for in Shepards case ?

Of course we do!

...science-y things

Seriously, though, they are linked to the upgrades you can get in ME2. Skin and muscle weave, etc.

So we don't really know if the total lose of the cybernetics could be fatal or not...

I don't know. I wasn't really responding with that in mind. :P

It kind of branched on from Deus Ex-style augmentations and how naturally Shepard might take to them, into my own hypothesising on how it might be explained if putting it into a story.

Only reason I choose destroy. Every other choice leaves me feeling ill. I tell myself deep down EDI and the Geth can be recovered/salvaged/rebuilt.

"Your connection to your kind will be lost", means the loss of the empathic connection to other organics, but Shepard-Controller *is* made to care about them, or he wouldn't be able to fulfil his purpose.

EDI says "I am not totally free of motivations". Neither would the Shepard-Controller be. If you are not free of motivations, then by definition, love it still possible. It might be a strange kind of love, though, driven by the wish to see Miranda flourish and deep analysis of her character rather than empathy. It would be devoid of desire, platonic really. He might want to recover those lost parts, but that won't be possible unless a part of Shepard-Controller can download into a body made for that kind of thing, since it's made rather clear that these things did not transfer to his ascended state.

It has Shep's memories but isn't shep. Therefore I find it unlikely but not impossible for the new AI to fall in love with Miranda. Think given the detached role of the controller the most likely thing would be a curiosity in studying her from afar to try and understand why this individual was special to Shep.

The whole ‘you are partly synthetic yourself’ is a total red herring. If the pulse actually affected things as unsophisticated as cybernetic augmentations, every single electronic thing in the galaxy would break.
