You'll be sucked in. This is one of the most productive character threads out there.

And we have a LOT of fun in here.

Can already tell. My personality fits this thread.

I've had..."disagreements" with the people in the Liara thread. More FemShep focused, and I don't like FemShep. DO NOT JIVE

If FemShep could romance Miranda, you best believe thats what I would be doing. I'd be Roxanne/Miranda all the way. Unfortunately, its not available to FemShep.

I don't have any problem playing as Sheploo, none at all, Riley (My Shep) and Miranda are great together. But as a female gamer I do feel more connected to my own gender.

I get that, and I feel the same way. That's the reason I don't play a FemShep. That, and I'm not big on Hale like most are.

Miranda was originally going to be Bisexual, but it was scrapped. No lines exist, unlike the ones for Tali.

I think the lines are there, but people have pointed out in the past that they just have meer and hale record everything, so it's not necessarily all that significant.

But I remember reading that they hesitated about Ashley/Kaidan in ME1 as well. So it's probably mostly that the ME team has a strong conservative/traditionalist streak, as compared, for example, to the Dragon Age team.

Edit:
Guess it would be better to have this here...

I would never claim to know why this happened, but I have some ideas.

Yeah, I wish it wasn't. But that's old news.

I wonder why everyone assumes their playthrough is canon.

Because they're talking about their Shepard? And for those people, it is canon.

Then they should make it clear that they're talking about *their* Shepard.

It should be obvious that they are talking about *their* Shepard, unless they specifically say they're talking about someone elses. In which case, they are still talking about a "personal shepard" and therefore doesn't align with everyones view of him anyway.

Either way, there is no overall canon and everyone is free to interpret motives, desires, and speech in anyway they please. None of them are wrong, despite the differing opinions among their peers.

I'm really not trying to sound rude, but sometimes I think people forget that nearly everything about Shepard is completely up to the individual.

No.  You are wrong.  The only canon Shepard is ugly Shepard.  The rest are just pretenders

Jennifer Hale is awesome (best role bar none was Bastila in KotOR) and FemShep has some great lines, but for the most part she just doesn't sound right, or how Commander Shepard should sound.

I don't think they have a streak, at least the best writers don't. Patrick Weekes took his kids to LGBT Pride parades. They're really, really young. He wrote Traynor, and I loved her.

Most of the writers are really level headed and liberal.

It was cut for time constraints. They would have put it in there if they had had time.

But not for the actual LGBT players. Which is unfortunate.

I don't see you much in the threads I post in for some reason, but since you posted a meme face, you're good in my book.

Well, their sensibilities are not homogenous, thankfully. I don't know anything about Mr. Weekes the individual, but I have an affinity for his work, and I tend to think that he probably falls more on the less traditionalist/conservative side of things, yeah.

The irony is that, because of the way her romance is written, "you never asked" is legitimate. I'd like it because I prefer Hale but find FemShep's options too same-y. I flatter myself that I've written her as bisexual in a way that is both credible and not for titillation.

Liara needed more scenes to express her greatness.
And Miranda got a little too many, maybe Liara could have borrowed some.

Ash was never intended to be bi, that's just because Meer/Hale read off the same sheet.  Miranda I have heard it was debated early, but I don't know.

Tali, honestly, it would make more sense if she was, given her shadow broker dossier information...

I've come to the other side somewhat on Tali, as far as this subject goes. Plus, I don't really care about Tali.

I'm still completely against Ashley being bisexual, though. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Of course. It's very hard to not play into that crowd. Bisexual women are the most represented in fiction, and they are usually portrayed inaccurately.

The bisexual concept was scrapped and no trace of it appears in game, so I consider her heterosexual.

Kaidan had an exclusive moment in ME2 if you romanced him as a man in ME1. And I'm serious about that too, you can look it up. That was included IN the files, but was scrapped due to...Fox News.

I wouldn't have cared one bit, but that's the way it is. I think they missed an opportunity. You can interpret this any which way you want however.

I seriously doubt that the original plans for Miranda being bisexual was to cater to actual LGBT players though.

I don't know, you hear different things. Partly it's just people interpreting what little info is available how they want, I guess, because they would prefer X character to be bi or prefer X character to not be bi, or they want more/less variety of romance options in the game, etc.

I've never really seen an official word on it. Admittedly, it's not a topic I've really followed all that closely.

Yeah, I can't see Ashley as bi. I'm glad ME3 didn't take DAII route and made every LI bi, there's nothing more forced than this. I can't undersdant why they didn't make Jack bi though.

I'm not sure anything pissed me off more than them trying (being the operative word) to go off on the Mass Effect romances. Pissed me off to no end.

I think if Ash was intended to be bi, they'd have done it in this game since they didn't seem to mind crossing that bridge anymore.  Though they already had so many bi women in the game, maybe they felt it overkill.  Still though, it wasn't the original intent, and I don't think it fits her character.

I do wonder if Miranda had been a romance option for new players, if she'd have been bi.  It seems out of character to me, but not nearly as much as with Ash, so I'm kinda curious if they'd have done that...

Well, my opinion on that is that it could certainly be done in a way that is 100% convincing in Miranda's case.

With Ashley, I'm not sure. Maybe, I guess. I don't really have an opinion on that in particular.

I doubt that too. I don't claim to know what they would have done for it, but I think it would have been a play on her promiscuity, like that of Isabela in Dragon Age, rather than just being an option for LGBT players.

After the way her character developed throughout ME2 (especially with the romance), I think her being wildly promiscuous would be SO wrong.

The way her character actually solidifed, it doesn't really fit, but at the concept or development stage, they might have considered it from that point of view.

It's fairly clear that, at the early development stage, Miranda was intended to be much more blatantly an evil/temptress figure than she ended up being once the character was fully developed.

She has some leftover elements of that in the game, but they are not really the core elements.
