These types of people have sex because they can't connect to other people in any other way.
They have plenty of films about this. Last Tango in Paris being the most known.
The chemical release from coitus creates the same ones as being in love. People who don't have that, will sleep with more people. Oxytocin is the one you're looking for.

Yes, I know that. But she's a scientist, she knows it takes more than one attempt at conceiving. So I find unlikely that she didn't try with other guys before. Just because there weren't any other emails there that doesn't mean she didn't go out with anyone else.
Or she just knocked them out and took a sample
That's actually quite conceivable(pardon the pun). Think i'll make that my canon as it fits with her character better.

She's not entirely management. She travels through the galaxy to contacts and is doing missions in person (Mass Effect Galaxy example). A child that is less than 10 years old would really be a problem there without a father.krukow wrote...
She's not a field agent. It's not like she goes undercover. She's management. She heads and runs massive projects. You do most of that from an office/lab (the collector mission is a special exception).

Well, the way it's presented in the dossier, it seems to stem from her work on the Lazarus project. Rebuilding Shepard is like her first.... creation, in a way.
So, I think it makes sense that her interest would be partly personal, but partly clinical.

It may have been that way at the start, but the authorial intent is pretty blatent to me.
She wants a child. That isn't all that uncommon.
Having a child also produces chemicals. Far more so than just having sex with random strangers.
Shepard can fill that role. That's why she gets so attached to him. The chemicals are produced by simply being around him.
But she's still Miranda. She's still professional.

She may have been doing it for pregnancy, or she may have just done research on pregnacy as a procaution should she get pregnant.
I prefer to think that she didn't sleep with any of them. But that has no merit and is just how I'd prefer view her as a person. It is very possible that she was just lonely and wanted some form of companionship.

I find it much better for my mental health if I just change the dossier to "Miranda has casual sex. Miranda wants children, but can't have them."
The character derailment started there.

On the subject of Miranda's morality and the type of actions she tends to recommend, I always found it refreshing that her recommendations tend to fall a bit on the far side of what I/my Shepard would instinctively want to do.
I think it's one reason she is fun to have around.
Sometimes she recommends something that makes sense pragmatically, and I get to say: Hahahaha yes, that makes sense, but you forget, this is a game, and I am playing the hero, so everything I do will work hahahaha.
And she gets to roll her eyes.
Other times we'll be in a situation, and she'll say something, and my reaction will be: Ummm, really? Are you sure we need to do that lol?
It's just more entertaining that way.
Also, I like that, at one point, Jacob is all, "Let's go get the Collectors NAAAOO!" and Miranda actually recommends building the team some more. I mean, it's a good call but I always felt the roles would've been switched there.

Well, I think it's appropriate because Miranda has never really been "gung ho" in that sense. Building up the team is the more rational choice. It makes sense that Jacob, as the soldier, just wants to get the fighting started.

Yes it's out there, but it's clear.
Any sex beforehand was for companionship.
A baby is a more permenant solution to the lonliness problem. She would have a constant supply of chemical releases.

I can't imagine why...She's only been flirting with Shepard the entire time they've known each other.
Apparently she didn't get the memo that Shepard is Miranda's. The whole ship was suppose to be informed.

Miranda's alays come across to me as cautious so her wanting to build the team makes sense as far as i'm concerned. My main Shep is sometimes a bit rash so i think she gives him a counterpoint, although he seems to have rubbed off on her in ME3 when she runs off on her own to deal with Oriana situation alone.

Exactly. She'll also have those releases by simply having him around.
Having a baby with him will only add to it.
But she can still be a professional and gain pleasure from that as well.

I think she might actually do it both times (we don't know what we'll see on the reaper, we don't know what we'll see on the other side of the omega 4 relay). And yeah, i agree with her the first time.

I think you're right and wrong at the same time.
You're right, partly I think, in that the intent is obviously to show that Miranda wants a child.
But jtav is also right that the character derailment started there because that is when the responsability for Miranda's character changed hands.
The issue isn't that Miranda wants to have a baby. The issue is that Jay W. wants and expects you and I to read that dossier and to deduce something like the following: "Miranda has casual sex, wants a baby and cannot have one. And therefore is a bad person."
I highlight that last part intentionally because that is really where the problem starts. You and I do not react that way because we do not share Jay W.'s narrow worldview in which career-driven women are to be condemned as unhealthy and undesirable.
That is why Miranda fans have never reacted as he anticipated. Because we don't see the world that way, and that is a good thing.
That is why Miranda needs to get out of his creative control and back into the hands of Mr. Weekes or someone with similar sensibilities.

Is there any way to keep Miranda from dying in the "save her sister again" ME3 mission? Ive done it with two characters now, one who hated her and one who was ME2 romancing her both times she died at the end.
My current playthru is on a romance with mir, everyone survived the ending of ME2 save if that makes any diference.
