Reminds me of Dale Carnegie's story about when he heard a man attribute a quote wrongly, and wished to correct him. His friend convinced him that there was nothing to be gained by pointing it out, in this instance. The same can be said for certain cases here.
Otherwise, and I don't mean to sound patronising, there is also the issue of tact. On discussion boards, it is so easy to misunderstand something, and for things to turn (mildly) hostile, that it seems to best to give people the benefit of the doubt and speak in a friendlier manner.
And because that was perhaps a little too serious...
