And therefore Shepard helping her...'warm up,' I suppose, isn't exceptional in comparison to what s/he does for the rest of the crew.

Probably not, seeing how Miranda's issues and the way they're resolved are so radically different than the other crewmembers that they aren't comparable.

I don't think you've actually posted anything with merit yet.

Hard to be mirimancer this days..I saw a poll on one of our russian fan forums about ME3 LI. So results were (from 145 respondents) as follows:
Liara -46 %, Tali - 23%, Garrus - 19%, Ash - 17%, Miranda -9%(i ignore the rest). I was shocked by the number. This results shows what Bioware did with character.

Not just a Mirimancer either. Rather, a fan of anyone who isn't Liara, the VS, or a Dextro.

Looks like we're the lepers of Mass Effect 3 romances.

"You like Miranda, Thane, Jack, etc.?"

"WELL TOO BAD."

I think Shepard made a much more drastic improvement to Jack's life than Miranda's.

And you know...I'm not saying Miranda didn't have a hard childhood. But she chose her path. She chose Cerberus. She chose to distance herself from most people. And she almost certainly chose to do some ugly things on behalf of them.

Agreed on both counts. That Miranda's distanced from most people is not a problem, it's a character trait and it's one i like. Her problem - being uncomfortable with her origins - is certainly a lesser one compared to Jack's.

The difference is that Miranda made a drastic improvement on Shepard's life....such as giving it back to him. That's what makes Miranda different from Tali, Jack and Ashley. The only other LI who's done something of similar impact is Liara. That it was only a job at that time doesn't lessen its importance, and I find it appropriate that Shepard mentions it in ME3.

The entirety of the New German Cinema would like to have a word with you. Fassbinder just rolled over in his grave. Herzog will be arriving at your doorstep shortly.

That's a serious issue. No one. No one should have to tell you this.

Even the game acknowledges this as a problem. THE GAME.

Miranda saved Shepard, but that was just as much or more the Illusive Man as her. The Illusive Man was the one who made the decision to do it. He was the one who funded the project. He was doubtless the one who funded her training and education. He took the initiative. Ultimately, he should take the credit for Shepard's resurrection.

Yes, Miranda provided expertise, but since the decision wasn't hers, that expertise could just as easily have gone into developing something completely evil.

Literally all TIM did was give Miranda the OK and told her not to use a control chip. He did none of the actual work.

After following the latest posts about us being the red headed step children in the LI department I wanted to post:

I've romanced several different people, never done a femshep so no males to comment on but"

- Tali comes off as immature and super naive. Her adoration of Shep is cute, but ends there.
- Liara is easy to adore, but her awkwardness in ME1 is off putting and her inability to join me in ME2 ruins any desire for me to want to be with her. Plus her whining over Thessia in ME3 was pathetic and self centered, as if earth wasn't in ruins.
- Ash is so tom-boyish its sickening. I like her past and her story and to a large degree could see any Shep ive ever made getting along with her. Her constant competing and almost lack of chain of command respect from early on irritates me. She reminds me why I avoid military women in real life.
Jack in ME2 was too rough around the edges for me. Like her much more in ME3. For such a strong girl and tough she whines a lot in ME2.

While having never done a femshep, therefore not romanced any males I adored Garrus (#1 bro!) and Thane, his part in Mass Effect 3 was awe inspiring to press on in the story. Never cared for Jacob, or Cortez.

Miranda to me was equal parts of internal weakness mixed with strength. She didn't need a man in her life and her family came first. Her distrust of Shep in the beginning was accurate and deserving and there was no better companion to have for advice or to have by your side in a fight. She seemed to have no flaws in ME2. In ME3 sure it becomes all family, nothing like an invading destructive force to make you worry about family.

I always felt if Ori had been safe and secure faster she would join me, still disappointing she didn't for the battle of London. I can honestly say there is no one id rather see in the Normandy rescue scene than her, that reminder of why I'm charging to the beam. I always tell myself her vid call seems so empty because she feels deep down Shep will die. Her actions always did speak louder than words.

Sorry didn't mean to write so much, just wanted to air an opinion and some grievances. I don't see why some others complain about their LI getting no respect from Bioware, but thats something I won't go into.

Crying after having your planet overrun is hardly 'pathetic and self centered.' In any case, doesn't Miranda cry if Shepard ends the relationship?

It's not the action itself, but the way it was handled/ presented in the game. I guess I fall more in line with how Garrus handles it rather than Liara falling apart in her room. It just felt overly dramatic. I may be the only one who wanted to slap her and be like "my worlds burning too", but none the less that's how it left me feeling.

My comment in regards to self centered in pathetic is more about her characters previous actions compared to her reaction to a burning Thessia, not that I find her being upset over the possible loss of her homeworld misplaced. Can't comment on Miranda crying over being dumped, never dumped her.

VS, Vega and Shepard don't cry when Earth is attacked. Garrus don't cry when the Reapersare attacking his planet where his family is.

And Miranda crying when Shepardbrakes up with her is fine. Being in the run from everyone (Alliance, Cerberus, Spectres, C-Seg, etc), making some time just to se her lover so he can dump her.. She hasthe right to some tears, it showsshe was in love with the person and not with the idea of the person like other romances.

Not to mention that Shepard's reactions to Liara's crying about Thessia are "I'm sorry" and "I'm sorry", just in a more dick-ey tone.

Heavens forbid someone actually feels stuff.

Edit: although, of course, the responses Shepard has pretty much are a slap.

Really, I'm ashamed of how you're treating the new guy.

As for Shep/Miranda being "just a man and a woman" no thanks. My Shep likes being exceptional and he's always going to be striving for the next challenge. I don't want settled-down domesticity. Marriage? Certainly. Children? Eventually. But there's a big world out there and discoveries to be made. I want that.

Saren, the Collectors, Cerberus, and the Reapers not enough for ya? LOL

Seriously after all that in the games all I wanted to do was sit in a rocking chair, drink a beer, smoke a cigar and look at the stars and I wasn't even actually living the stuff. My Shep had to be more exhausted than I was.

Do you have fanfic of your Shep's after-reaper exploits? Would make for an interesting read.

Well on the other hand, being a fan of Liara, the VS, or a Dextro brings you tons of hate, sarcasm and witty remarks everytime you start a thread on these boards. So don't worry Mirimancers, the BSN provide the right amount of problems for everyone who is just a fan of the series.

No, but let me give you an example from the chapter I'm working on.

Shepard is reading an article about the "virtual aliens" from CDN and geeking out. He's also brainstorming ways to interface with them safely. He gets called away, and Miranda has corrected one of his equations by the time he gets back. That's the kind of future I see.

What will you call the pacified Reapers? Would be interesting to see them becoming involved in the galactic world in synthesis...

Very nice, My Shep became more politically minded as he matured. I see a council seat or General slot for him with Miranda on his arm. Maybe Shep as an N7 instructor and Miranda teaching aspects of her operative training to N7 recruits. Yeah...I like the N7 instructor idea, might have to try that in a rewrite fanfic....

I think that would be a realistic immediate future for those post-Ending Shepards who don’t have to deal with all kinds of problems remaining.

Still, I really don’t see it lasting for longer than a year or two on the outside. Shepard is a person of action. Miranda maybe even moreso.

Edit: that’s kind of Miranda’s problem in Unity currently; she’s got no clear mission so she’s kind of lost…until she finds one, anyway.
