Miranda is not present during that scene. None of the ME2 characters are.

They weren't on the Normandy. It would be really weird if they were there.

Now if they had been added to the crew earlier...

I'm glad she's not in that scene as that would mean she is stranded in the back of beyond, far away from my wounded Shep. Much prefer that she is on earth, i just wish they'd bothered to show  at least some sequence of Shep being rescued or integrated Shep lives into the epilogue properly.

But the Normandy is fine in the EC. They just decide "Hey guize, let's blow this joint!" and fly off from Planet Stranded.

It renders the Normandy's crash scene completely and utterly pointless, but hey, emotions!

It's not pointless!

They had to scrap EDI's body somewhere!

The energy explosion damaged the airlock so that it couldn't be safely used in a vacuum, so they had to go somewhere with an atmosphere!

See it all makes sense if you think about it...

Well they're thown off in the back of beyond somewhere. Once they make repairs and try and find a way back, it will take them quite some time to get back to earth.

Nope, they used FTL drive to get there.  They'll just use FTL to get back.

I don't know where Gilligan's planet came from.

But FTL is clearly shown in the EC.

Unless the speed is relative, it can take anywhere from a decade to hundreds of years to get back to Earth via FTL. It just depends on where the planet that the Normandy crashed on is located.

Uhhh... wut?

They're running away using FTL, not the relays.  This is shown in the EC.  It should take the same amount of time to get back that it took them to get there.

I realize that Gilligan's planet shouldn't exist and is a plot hole.

Clearly the beam threw them somewhere well off course damaging the Normandy, otherwise they would be with the rest of the fleet at the rendez-vous point rather than landing on some uninhabitated planet to make repairs. They clearly out of touch and must know they ain't getting back anytime immediately as they hold a memorial service for the presumed lost whilst making repairs. No doubt they do FTL back after that but given this planet isn't in Sol system even FTL will take a bit of time.

I'm talking about the Normandy lifting off from Planet Stranded, not their running away on Earth. did I not make that clear?

I don't remember where I read this at, but it takes light about 6 hours to get from Pluto to Earth. If Planet Stranded is on the other side of the galaxy from Sol, it could take hundreds of years to reach. The Normandy would be out of fuel before it made any meaningful amount of progress.

They left Earth via FTL.  They never used a relay.  The energy wave chasing them is in round bubble form, not in straight beam form (the way it travels from relay to relay).  How could they be across the galaxy?

They're nearby.

What does the shape of the energy wave have to do with anything?

If they're nearby, then what the f**k planet could they possibly be on? Earth is the only one in our solar system that even remotely resembles the planet in the crash scene. Apart from that, 2175 Aeia is the only other planet to hold any resemblence, and that is 5200 lightyears from Earth in the Rosetta nebula.

Never mind that the Stargazer scene (which has also been rendered pointless with the retcon of the stranding scene) is, what, 10,000 years into the future and supposedly on the same planet?

Clearly being in FTL and being hit by the beam don't mix. Ergo it resulted in something completely unexpected and threw them out near to some uninhabited planet rather than them coming out at the rendez-vous point. Who knows exactly how close that planet is to earth.

No, they aren't 'nearby.' as in five minutes. There isn't going to be an unsettled habitable planet within minutes or of travel from Earth using FTL.

My guess is that they took the relay to Arcturus and took another relay from that system somewhere else. Somewhere pre-planned, probably, given that Hackett gives an order to retreat. Which would imply they would choose a system as close to Earth as they could.

It's evidence that they're traveling by FTL.

I never said that they weren't? I only said that it could take anywhere from decades to centuries, or even millenia to return to Earth via FTL, it just depends on how far away they are.
