I really think this is one of the poorest aspects of Mass Effect 3; them trying to explain why ME2 characters weren't squad mates on ME3 (except for Jack's. I took her reasoning at face value. I'm sure Jackolytes would disagree with me, though).

I mean, I don't even know what the hell Grunt's reasoning was. I guess to get hammered and send me drunken messages.

...I don't remember either.  Meh, Grunt's room is taken anyways.

Jack's reason was fine with me, Kelly's reason was perfectly understandable, Legion/Mordin had good plot excuses.

Other than that, though, yeah they were consistently weak.  Kasumi especially came off as a coward.

I mean, come on Miranda, Chakwas can fix that scratch up for you!

Yes.

For some reason it reminded me of this.

Just wanted to post this.

Link. I will never render something at 2560x1600 again.

And I won't comment about Jay W, mainly because he's one of the responsibles from Miranda's character mutilation. A simple "sorry I'll try to do better next time" won't fix the character. I wouldn't be able to say something without hate or rage.

That's how I feel about it.

Unless they pull Mass Effect 4 out of their ass or Miranda gets some DLC (or DLC that heavily involves her), there is no next time, and not even that will fix Miranda in ME3. It's not like more content will change the actual content that's in-game now.

@Skullheart:
Very nice, love it. Comment on deviantart.

As for Jay W's comment: the important thing is that we know the one-sidedness may not have been intended. It doesn't fix Miranda's content, but it makes it easier to do some repairs in my mind. Or in fan fiction. And if Miranda gets DLC content, perhaps we need not fear more of the same.

Oh, very nice Skull. *stares*

As for Jay, here's the way I look at it. Any future Miranda content is BW's call, not his. And I wouldn't want to be judged by my first Miranda story. I've grown since then. So I'll extend the same courtesy to him since he seems willing to improve.

If there's 1 thing I learned in my English classes, it's that when you're a writer who makes a living doing what you do, there are no accidents when your work is published. What you put in ink is what you intended.

I'm not talking about things like spelling or grammar errors either, I mean the content itself.

When you mean to tell somebody "I own a cat", you don't tell them "I own a pet shark".

Nothing against JayW personally, but from what I've seen, he isn't good at writing characters. He's better at plots. He says he wrote Ashley, and now I know who to blame for Ashley's horrid trust issues. He says he wrote Grunt, and now I know who to blame for Grunt's "reason" for not joining Shepard. He needs to learn how to display more than 1 character trait.

I'm cool with Ashley's trust issues. It makes me hate her more. I like hating Ashley, and it gives me more justification to hate her.

. And what EAware intended for ME3 sucked.  There are lots of problems, one of the foremost being weak reason for characters ie. Miranda not joing up

A pro ender I know personally told me to enjoy the game for what it is. I can't it's just plain bad and terrible.

I guarantee my own version of the ending would be met with far better liking.

And they pretty much wanted to torch the franchise.

. Certain parts of the game are indeed terrible (endings anyone, auto dialogue, lack of ME squadmates etc...). But I did enjoy certain parts (Tuchanka, Rannoch, I liked the new combat mechanics) overall ME3 a disappointment though

What they intended was to make money. For them ME3 was the march golden egg chicken. They didn't care much about the content (everything past rannoch is poorly done), they only wanted a selling game at march, nothing more. They didn't want to give a closure to every ME fan.

Also "artistic vision".

I respect the notion that anything can be considered art. That doesn't absolve it of all sin and hold it above criticism, especially when your "art" invalidates all of the other "art" in the franchise and kills and forseeable "art" that may have been otherwise possible.

It makes me wonder what Ray Muzyka was thinking when he said "our team". For some reason, I highly doubt "the team" wanted the lump of crap ending as much as Casey Hudson and Mac Walters.

I got a little off track there. /rant

They also insult our intelligence. "Since you didn't get our endings, we will lower OUR vision to YOU."

Being a condescending **** isn't going to win back my wallet Bioware...

@o Ventus:
Things are not so easy when you're writing as part of a team. He may have been handed three characters and broad outlines of what to do with them, and gotten the details wrong. I don't think we can blame him for Miranda not being present on Cronos Station, only for the imbalance in Miranda's character. And that, as I said, is the result of a flaw I can see an inexperienced writer making easily - getting the balance wrong when dealing with multiple character traits. You see it in Ashley as well.

Does that make me content? Of course not! I'll continue to denounce Miranda's character mutilation, and I want DLC to repair the damage as much as that's still possible. But it makes me feel much better to know it was the result of inexperience.

That just means he did it wrong, not that he didn't mean to do it, or that his intent was different.

... It's also a lesson as to why you hand a developing character with a fickle and sizeable fanbase over to a new guy (as opposed to someone who's written her in the past), but whatever, Bioware obviously knows better than I do.

Nothing really pertaining to the ME characters, so much as writing in general. Of course, I was absent for part of it, so I very well could have missed any mention of them.
