Let me ask a simple question that I think will clear things up for me.
Is a story that portrays (and ends with) a strong male character and a weak female character as the main characters fundamentally a sexist story that is the product of "laziness" and "inexperience"?
In fact, she doesn't even need to be weak. Let's say a weak or submissive female character.
As an isolated case, no.
Where I think many women take issue is that it is the continuation or 'promotion' of a stereotype that they
have worked so hard to disprove. Regardless of the intent of the author,
they are furthering this submissive, weak image of women.
I recognize that there are, indeed, differences between men and women. I am not offended by seeing some women in a supportive/submissive role. However, I would take issue with an author who took a character such as
Miranda (a character specifically portrayed as a strong, independent woman) and insinuated that she ought to shift her focus to more domestic matters.
That being said, I do not see Miranda as falling victim to this stereotype
(I'm with Taboo). But I also have a tendency to augment my gaming experiences with a vivid imagination

Sorry for jumping in on this debate...I hope I'm getting the context right?
