True, but government isn't portrayed as evil or Orwellian in ME

They are portrayed as incompotent. And quite a bit of the time they are.

The Council is responsible for quite a lot of death once you think about it. After Shepard died they dismissed everything he said. Had they paid him heed they could have used those two years to begin preparations.

It’s heavily implied that there’s something about the Citadel that causes inaction.

That's pretty much what democracy is built on.

Implied where?

I don't think our "Mutual Fiend" on the Citadel is Indoctrinating anyone if that's what you're implying.

Meanwhile, Ozymandias, the man who believed the ends justified the means, created World Peace. Granted, he killed hundreds of thousands of people to achieve this but still...World Peace.

Except, you know, the heavily implied part where he failed to do so.

The comic leaves to the reader's imagination whether or not Roscharch's journal was published.
I like to think Ozymandias suceeded.

Of course you would, because it supports the idea of ends justifying the means.

The reality is that questionable means are rarely justified by the ends, and more importantly, you extremely rarely actually achieve the end with the questionable means, leaving you with nothing but s—

I don't know. I'd like to think that the Reapers are not aware of the Catalyst's presence which is why they maintain their level of importance (to themselves). But subconsciously they have been programmed to do so by the Catalyst. They believe they are eternal and infinite.

They are a solution to a hypothetical problem created by hubris laden organics.

What this boils down to is people not taking responsibility for their creations.

To borrow a tactic: listen and observe on the Citadel. You’ll see.

No, indoctrination would be too obvious.

Did you go double renegade on her with the Leviathan mind control?

The thing is, her line has absolutely nothing to do with appreciating people. It's based on notions of sanctity.

As for the mechanical role, yeah, that's why I say we get two different Mirandas, she just echoes Shepard here.

Well, that's just it. It does. She doesn't feel right treating the death of thousands of humans as if it were nothing. It's a shift from focusing on the work and completing the mission, to considering just how far you'll go to accomplish that. And it feeds directly into the bit after where she's ordered to stop Shepard. It's a pretty common story arc and I can see that as BioWare's authorial intent (and part of what might appeal to an actor agreeing to 'star' in the game. They do love their arcs.)

But like I said, I'm fine with others holding different interpretations. I don't feel it's out-of-character, but I can appreciate why others might.

Okay then. I shall do so. I love these kinds of things.

Unless I've already answered my own question in my head.

Isn't this fun?

Where does it say she's dead? : / She was moving when Vega carried her out.

She dies if you continue the interrogation after the initial renegade interrupt.

If you go to Vega after meeting the Leviathans, he says something like, "I wish Ann could have been here to see it."

Why are you using that dialect? Shouldn't you use something more recognizable?

It's interesting. Mass Effect has a lot of somewhat anti-democratic themes, albeit light ones. One person in charge, one person making the difference. The Spectres. The Council. Cerberus. The turian government.

In the end, it all speaks against such things though: Many misuse the authority of the Spectres, the Council is generally portrayed as stupid, Cerberus is evil and fails after all... the main theme of Mass Effect is clearly "unity with diversity"

Well, that's until you forcibly synthesize the galaxy's DNA, the preferred ending of the creators of the game and their five minutes remaining in the game antagonist.

Diversity dies forever. PEACE AND LOVE

.
For the 100000the time: if you replace DNA with something else, diversity will be affected.....not at all. All life is based on DNA. Are we all the same?

And can we leave off with the Synthesis-bashing? I get enough of that in other threads.
