This is the kind of situation where OCD is really handy. I'll be able to learn a whole bunch of things as a result of simply being so driven to be curious.

But thanks for that David. It looks interesting.

Well, I wrote the entry for colonies named after people, anyway...

It's almost certain none of those people have any idea they have fictional planets named after them.

@Taboo-XX

Oh dear, the mythology nerd that I am could not resist de-lurking it seems...

How about Iunu, Heliopolis' name in egyptian?
Heliopolis, or Iunu, was where Amun-Re (evening sun god) was worshipped. Also:

"Egyptian mythology, and later GrecoRoman mythology, said that the phoenix (Bennu), after rising from the ashes of its predecessor, would bring the ashes to the altar of the sun god in Heliopolis."

Of note: To the egyptians, the phoenix (Bennu) was considered to be the "soul" of Atum and Ra (sun gods) , as well as Osiris (God of afterlife) and so, represented rebirth/renewal.

(Source-Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia....opolis_(ancient) and: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bennu Because I can't be arsed to look through my Swedish mythology book and translate from Swedish into English atm, Wikipedia will have to do)

On another headcanon note... *Ehem* here; I wanted to share this Miranda concept doodle I made:

Image IPB

I wanted to give each ME2 character a new appearance (ala Jack) for the purpose of my headcanon fic, and being the visual-arts person I am, I couldn't resist drawing concepts to go with it. Hence, this concept for Miranda.
(Yes, I know I got lazy with the gun. Meh)

It's perhaps a bit casual (I'll probably make an armour concept later), but imo it's still stylish, or, dare I say it, fabulous? ;)

That's a nice piece of concept art. I like that different appearance. But what does she hold in her right hand?

I was thinking about Heliopolis actually. I listed it a few pages back if you go look.

The Phoenix resided there.

To be honest I think that's entirely simple enough. Thanks for the encouragement.

And I LOVE your Miranda art by the way. It's nice to see her in a casual outfit for once!

I like the art emerald.

It's nice to see a picture of Miranda in here where she's not in her underwear...

At least I don't feel that Heliopolis is stupid now. I was concerned a few pages back because it was Greek.

But it works so well.

Now I have station and a name for the organization.

Now I need...a logo.

Oh gee...is humbled by the kind words :)

@Ieldra2

Yep, it's supposed to be a biotic "flare". Heh, while working on it I found colored pencils are not the easiest medium to portray biotics. That and the scanner wasn't kind on the contrast :/

@Taboo-XX

Yeah I read that, and I figured that a good alternative to the greek name Heliopolis (if one wants to avoid using greek because Cerberus is greek) could be to use the original egyptian one; Iunu.

Thank you for the assitance. I appreciate it.

And look! Look at this!

The Phoenix is looking for the Benben Stone to lay down its New Egg that will trigger a New Era of Mankind, the Age of Aquarius, the Water Bearer.

Most fascniating. I'm certainly in a good mood now.

But this is so cool. Finally some headway Taboo. I need a logo now though.

A fabulous logo.

Well, since you didn't balk at Admiral Williams, I'll stop picking on your head canon.

I don't know where it comes from (google image search), but what about something like this:

I was planning on reworking the Cerberus logo. Making it into something unrecognizable yet familiar.

THAT I can draw.

You might want to just abandon the cerberus logo. Germany didn't rework the swasticas when they rebuilt...

Yes that's true. Hitler did steal that though, from India. You need to remember that.

A simple design that looks like a bird.

He stole it from culture. It was a semi-common symbol.

Yes well...the comparison is a little...much.

You could use an Ankh. They are the Symbol of Life. It too comes from Egypt. Everyone recognizes it.

A symbol of life. The Key to Life.

I don't know. There are so many possibilities I'm just flicking **** now. Fun to think about though.

Nihlus won't be here for another two days by the way. Because of...reasons.

Anyway, here's a picture, my favorite of course.

@Taboo-XX

Or perhaps something based on the hieroglyphs for Bennu/Benu?

Image IPB

Image IPB

The first hieroglyph is the "Wading Benu" it represents the "Ba (soul)" of the sun god.

The second is the "Benu seated upon the ben-ben" It represents the Bennu's perching upon a cliff* after the Nile flooding. To the egyptians, this represented that the Bennu perched on the first land (Ben-Ben) to rise after the first Nile flood (the creation of the world), and by that extension, rebirth.

*/ The cliff is called the "Ben-Ben" it's actually the origin of the obelisk (der. from obeliskos which is the greek name for Ben-Ben).

Err..uhm sorry for that OT...Next time I decide that pulling out my "Reading Egyptian Art" book is a good idea, I'll PM instead. Image IPB

Er..quick! A Miranda-pic to make up for my hieroglyph ramblings:

But it's project phoenix. Phoenix rises from the ashes or from fire. You're base should be named after something fire related.

Of course, Min would work too since Miranda just wants to have babies and cook dinner for her man...

Consistency? Speaking of mythical creatures, how about them hobgoblins…

So much symbolism...*sigh*

I LOVE IT

I had so much problems headcanoning (can you even say that) the name of the new organisation. Well that's done now.

And Emeraldfern, that's a great pic, thanx
