i am still trying to figure out what the argument really is about , because it seems i might have missed a post

i know what it is about, but it just doesn't seem like something to start a argument over but obviously i am wrong

So high you can do pull ups.

Why don't you go to the Tali thread. Isn't that more your thing?

I romance Liara, not Tali. Although Tali is a very close second. But I don't post to gush about characters in any case.

The argument isn't about anything, really.

It's just David.

Haven't seen many new pictures of Miranda recently. Not to say that we don't have a great set already.

The argument was that someone was mocking Mass Effect as fantasy instead of science fiction because of husks and Miranda's infertility and Synthesis. I pointed how how absurd that was, given the kinds of things that appear in nearly every other science fiction story and plenty of non-science fiction stories.

Bah. I won't fall prey to delusions just because some second-rate writer expects me to. The "truth of the gut" was what lead to fascism. classical Romanticism is nice for inspiring art, but if you're looking for truth, look elsewhere.

What he means is "the truth of the gut is a lie, often a deliberately fabricated one."

It's part of a speech that has a certain political context. That's probably not worth getting into here.

You don't consider Vitalism absurd?

I consider synthesis absurd. But no more than numerous other examples of 'science' in other stories. Including stories with access to far less exotic technology and such. The Dark Knight trilogy, for example. I don't see how anything else in Mass Effect supports vitalism.

Yes. Shepard's "sacrifice" has themes of Vitalism in it. It's not scientific in the least. What happens afterwords is better explained by Ieldra in his Synthesis thread. That has science in it.

This is the definition:

Vitalism is the doctrine, often advocated in the past but now rejected by mainstream science, that "living organisms are fundamentally different from non-living entities because they contain some non-physical element or are governed by different principles than are inanimate things".Where vitalism explicitly invokes a vital principle, that element is often referred to as the "vital spark", "energy" or "élan vital", which some equate with the "soul".

Essentially, the energy that is added to the Crucible is Shepard's "life energy".

An Eastern equivalent would be Chi.

The point of all this is that despite Synthesis and several other issues, some of which might even be necessary or unknown to the majority of players, Mass Effect is still 'harder' than the vast majority of science fiction out there. And that's not just modern stories. Asimov and Clarke made their share of mistakes too.

He was never saying it broke the game for him. You've made it appear that way.

He was merely pointing out some hiccups.

You've been incredibly picky about a codex entry. I don't see why Ieldra can't have some complaints like everone else.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. That codex entry doesn't work.

Short story: It's 2nd only to Synthesis in terms of pseudo-science.

I'm exaggerating it a bit, but it's really bad.
