Well BioWare has confirmed that they will in fact develop another Mass Effect game. They have not detailed when it will take place in the timeline, but I'm terrified it will be ME4 with synthesis as canon.

why would they use an ending selected by the minority?

As far as I'm concerned anything that occurs with Synthesis is an AU.

1.  Jessica Merizan is a total sweetheart who often doesn't know what she's talking about.  She thought the Normandy crashed on Mars in the ending.

2.  Bioware is a business, and they have an interest in making things people want to buy.  Making a game with an unpopular canon is bad business.

Hence, why I'm not worried.

I would get upset that it meant Shep is in fact supposed to die, but Synthesis was my original preference in the first place. 

I'd be more upset about Liara being named canon LI.

Wonder whom the new protagonist will be. I just hope it doesn't take place during the Prothean cycle. Nothing like playing a game where all your efforts are doomed to fail.

No what it means is that Synthesis will occur regardless of Shepard doing it or not.

It WILL happen eventually. That's all it means.
